MMD will not be deterred by insults – Kunda

Vice President George Kunda says the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) will not be deterred by insults from some opposition political leaders and will concentrate on propelling national development.

Mr. Kunda has since urged MMD members to focus on party unity, tolerance and to be development oriented.

He was speaking today when he kick started the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) card renewal exercise at Mansa College of Education.

Mr. Kunda said government is determined to improve the road network and social infrastructure in Luapula Provence and nationwide in its continued efforts to low poverty and improve the economic status of the people.

He cited the on-going construction of High Schools in Milenge and Chiengi as among the infrastructure developments being carried out in the province.

Mr. Kunda said two new District Hospitals were being constructed in Samfya and Chiengi while two others would be erected in Kawambwa and Mwense next year.

Mr. Kunda also disclosed that government has secured a loan facilitate under a consortium of Arab Banks for improvement of water and sanitation in the province.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kunda has disclosed that the top leadership of the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) has embarked on a nationwide tour to assess party structures as a re-organization measure ahead of the 2011 general elections.

And Mr. Kunda said the PF/UPND pact poised no threat to the ruling MMD as the pact comprised of two political parties whose self belief as independent entities was at the lowest ebb.

The Vice President said PF and UPND decided to merge because the two opposition political parties were weakening gradually.

He said PF/UPND pact was in disarray and bound to fail because members at the grass root were not consulted before the pact was formed.

Mr. Kunda revealed that there was a very vicious power struggle in the pact adding that both Mr. Michael Sata and Mr. Hikainde Hichilema were using each other to advance individual political ambitions.

He urged MMD members to go out there and tell the people how suspicious the PF/UPND pact was.

Mr. Kunda said the ruling MMD was the only answer to the future of the country and urged party members to recruit more members in order to win the 2011 elections.

He said MMD needed more time to complete development projects it was implementing beyond 2011 general elections.

The Vice President said the ruling party had only one formidable candidate in President Rupiah Banda who should be maintained.

  1. Hi. I like the way you write. Will you post some more articles?

  2. Lampaz says:

Kunda and his bad mouth formation failing to address real issues during Movement for Madrax Dealers (MMD)but vested his time on attacking the opposition. Also naimweso a opposition, galamukani and get organised as issues surrounding the PF/UPND Pact is still seen as a weak and loose arrangement. Sort out the remaining stupid questions we would like to hear such as who lead but HH promised his pipo that his on the driving seat for his party. Discuss so that we astonish the Madrax Dealers in 2011. Kuputsa a opposition, wake up fast time is running out. The Madrax Dealers will take advantage and continue ruling us.
RB is the worst president of Zambia in modern times. I admire nothing from him but always expecting the worst from him and that the guy Kunda is say MMD should continue with. I wonder if they ve a research department to tell them how unpopular they ve become.

  3. GUNNERS says:

Hhhmmm, utuchisungu twabwaiche ati what what MMD MMD, Ba senoir citizen, you sound junior citizen. Your observation is crap to say the least. Watch the space in 2011…then you ll surely know that the pact meant something

  4. Discuss Real Issues now, Opposition Told (Busy trivializing When MMD Is sealing 2011 stamp)

THE Centre for Elections and Governance (CEG) has advised the opposition to avoid placing emphasis on trivialities if major developmental issues are to get on the national agenda because doing so is dangerous evidence of failure.

CEG trustee, Gershom Musonda, said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that major issues were not being discussed while MMD is single handedly sealing the 2011 election on its terms because opposition leaders who are supposed to bring them up had focused on trivial matters until election when it will be too late.

Mr Musonda cited the excitement with which leaders of major opposition parties had been discussing last week’s incident in which a monkey urinated on President Rupiah Banda as shocking.

He said although the incident deserved a few lines as a human interest story because of the personality involved, State House was a sanctuary of many tamed animals free to move and what happened was not really strange because it happens every now and them from time in memorial.

“Those who have been to national parks and places like Livingstone will tell you that what happened was an act of an excited monkey and has nothing to do with the myths we are hearing.

“The continued preoccupied discussion of the State House monkey incident by our leaders of major opposition parties gives the impression that they have run out of ideas and are not ready for national office,” he said.

He said the people of Zambia should hold the opposition leaders accountable for promoting wrong causes when they had the opportunity to bring up real issues affecting the people.

Mr Musonda said politicians should be discussing issues such as electoral reforms, constitutional reforms and rural development, which were the key challenges for the nation to create a comparative leadership based on policy.

Just how will majority apolitical Zambians, business community and foreign dignitaries see alternative leadership in the opposition when years are spent on trivialities? Will confidence be built on these trivialities?

Mr Musonda, who has been coordinating a human rights programme in schools said the education sector was also faced with the challenge of improving quality, access, retention and completion rates.

He said the Ministry of Education also needed to strengthen the community schools component which had been complementing the basic schools.

Mr Musonda called on newly-appointed Education Minister, Dora Siliya, to help change the culture of seminars and little work in the ministry.

He said Ms Siliya had proved to be a hard worker in her previous portfolios and he was confident that she would perform well at the Ministry of Education.

  5. HH&KING COBRA says:

KUNDA kUNDA SINCE WHEN DID U BECOME A FORMIDBLE POLITICIAN. the man is just shouting like a drankard on the roof top in the night. remeber the morning is coming. how can this learned fail to see lifeless nyama soya the Kumudzu of Zambia. the man is dead. he is a dying horse. cant he tell the age of this careless monkey urinated. imagine the monkey considered him worth to be urintaed. imisu mitundo kusuba owe twafya naba kolwe baziba ati chimbusu. how can ichimbusu chabakolwe be in power and be supported even by rubbish writer senior citizen. anyway ifimbusu pa zedi are in plenty. Defence minister chased by a monkey these are signs that even animals sub thinkers can tell ati ni nyama soya. yet ba kunda utulo how can you support imfwa yenda. the man calls all meeting to state house because he is sick old. what we need is power PFUPND go on HH&Sata they are feeling the heat even forgeting that there are strikes to address and corruption of Mitti at MOH ati ba Justice fimofimo limbi nasanguka akachimbusu or muli pachimbusu.

  6. Mossad-KGB,

You and i know better that those leaders continued to subject themselves to intra-party democracy for adoption by their parties until a miracle landed them.though they suffered rejection repitively at national level, institutional base had faith in them expressed through open and competitive elections. They had conventions decide their fate.

If you lose you have to seek the concert of the base other than imposing yourself as a leader that founded the party. That is charismatic leadership which is everything by itself.its demise is the end of the ball game.

Politics ought be dynamic than static. Look at Sata since 2000, he has been a loser yet too allergic to intra-party elections. Have seen him call for a convention to test the party waters? HH is resiting calls for another person to try on behalf of the party.UPND is dying on his watch from 46 MP to 22 since he took over. What Gap analysis and sole searching has been conducted in the party.Kahaye was unceremoniously expelled for expressing interest in the Presidency.

  7. Editor:

Kindly avoid potentially damaging images Pedophiles are using naked kids pictures here. We respect their orientation and love for prepubescent but The Watch Dog image should be preserved. You will be stunned to learn that these are someone else’s children subject to legal and criminal suits.

  8. Mossad-KGB says:

    SENIOR CITIZEN!!

I have great respect for you but I do not agree with you on this point. How many times did Senegalese President WADE lose elections before finally becoming President? How many times did Ghanaian ATTAH MILLS lose before becoming President? The issue of how many times one has lost should not arise. Its the people who choose. The constitution does not give a limit, let people contest, after all its their money that they use to fund campaigns, the don’t dip into state coffers.

  9. The So-called Haka-Sata Pact joint Presidency is lifeless and lacking basic space to emerge or shape up in Zambian democracy.

We have one statehouse but two fierce gluttons are suspiciously on each other’s neck in power struggle that is imploding the cosmetic and temporal unholy alliance mooted while trying to negotiate but in vain.

It’s a marriage of convenience of the two divorcees who have left their kids un consulted in their pimping for carnal love outside their failed marriages.

Prince Cobra cam Ichilema is an opportunistic Liberal while dad Cobra is populist demagogue with impulsive 90 days development miracle cycle rhetoric. Ichilema has been soliciting for alliances with MMD from Levy to RB meeting them privately while Sata is a give me the money dealer kaponya off the streets.

Political power is not mooted out of insulting tabloid ghetto journalism or by barking of none voting blogobogio cyber punditry, but vote based dynamics on the ground.MMD is live to targeted marketing to real voters that confer the mandate.

The 2011 election will be a land slide victory for democracy, Zambians and MMD with RB as the father figure of a unified nation-state configuration. Zambia is set for historic election of discarding rhetorical and irresponsible inflammatory secessionist politics of Haka-Sata regional demagogues for more years of centrist MMD inclusive politics.

Send professional researchers into Southern province and track the MMD gains against Prince Sata now left with Monze only. In the Northern and Luapula Sata’s feet are burning on each and every platform at the hands of RB and MMD Watch the space.

Events have left Sata too weak to stay the course of regionalism politics. His tribal rhetoric he built on against MMD under Mwanawasa has finally fallen. RB is more northerner than any candidate MMD candidate. He has children born from late Mama Hope Mwansa until she was called to heaven. He has allowed the law to serve Zambians judiciously watering Sata’s tribal rhetoric.

FYI, Sata gained Luapula against Levy on insinuation that the late Mwanawasa was ungratefully persecuting their son FJT and northern that he had marginalized them for family tree only.RB’s nationalist inclusive stratification has pushed Sata into a none issue rumbling demagogue.

Democracy is driven by a spirit of winner-loser outcome.MMD has served Zambia with those principles as its core values that if a candidate is rejected by the people at the ballot, it’s time to let others try next time.

In 2008, you head RB in an issue driven campaign trail openly saying repetitively that he was set to retire had he been to lose an election so that MMD can try with another member as candidate next time.

For the 4 consecutive election defeats your sole losers Haka-Sata you call demagogue leaders have refused to make same declaration or use common sense that in a democracy, it’s not normal to keep holding your parties and members to ransom as a natural loser.

When you lose max of two at worst, like USA based John Kerry and El Gore hand over to others. It’s not a matter of life and death. Can we hear that retirement?

This culture of crying foul whenever losers suffer democratic rejection must stop. You cannot be lying that there is rigging in over 5 major elections but not able to substantiate on any ground. It is bad losing culture progressives must reject and denounce. It’s bad excuse to keep holding the membership to ransom when they have the potential to do better than the self imposed sole loser.

Prince Cobra and his father Cobra for becoming professional election losers and campaign finance shredders must get out of the way to allow winning members in their parties. Take the Gore/John Kerry Model if we have to respect them.

  10. pafwenamwine says:

It shows how desparate MMD is. The fear and panicking has reached the alarming levels in MMD. Kunda is on a tour for MMD card renewal. The govt is paying him for party duties. The money they are paying for his security, entourage, accomodation and other logistics is beyond what they are failing to give nurses and teachers. It shows again how bent, brainless and spin these visionless leaders are. RB was telling people to reduce having seminars in posh hotels, touring to easy the financial difficults. They say this next time it is another. They know Luapula is difficult to manupulate with false promises. Is this not the same in coming teachers they have failed? Open your eyes and ears those hospitals and schools are for campaign and after 2011 they will stop building claiming the money is finished.

  11. Kadoli Katapa says:

I also thought Kunda was an intelingent man. How can say ruling party had only one formidable candidate in President Rupiah Banda who should be maintained. Ba Kunda mwasebana.

  12. Kadoli Katapa says:

Just tell us that you are afraid guys. If you combine the force of PF and UPND looking at last years elections, you will see reason why Kunda is not himself. if this pact is not a threat to you guys then worry not then. But I can assure you that there is nothing for MMD this time only if SATA and HICHILEMA don’t become greedy towards the end.

  13. Kamba Kamba says:

Welcome back Ba Zambia Watchdog. Is there any chance that you will feed us with what was going on between you, the police docket and the internet/website host? Thanx
