EU Bans planes from Zambia
The European Commission has banned all airlines from Zambia.
According to EU media reports, the EU removed a ban from flying to Europe on four Indonesian airlines, while at the same time banning all airlines from Zambia and Kazakhstan, except Air Astana, it said Tuesday.
The commission has a “black list” of airlines that aren’t allowed to fly to the European Union because of safety concerns, and it updates it regularly.
“Since the imposition of the ban in July 2007, four air carriers – Garuda Indonesia, Airfast Indonesia, Mandala Airlines and Premiair – can be taken off the list, because their authority ensures that they respect the international safety standards,” the commission said in a statement.
At the same time, safety deficiencies have led to the ban of the other companies, it added.
All air carriers certified by the Zambia authorities with
responsibility for regulatory oversight, including the newly launched Zambezi Airlines are banned.

Yep, even our very own “airforce one” is registered abroad meaning no zambian airline either currently in operation or planning to launch can even consider the EU as a destination
so we are talking of zambezi airlines te? pantu muzambia the only airline is in the coffin, dead or maybe in coma-zambia airways
Zambia’s Presidential jet, The Challenger is registered out of South Africa if i am not mistaken…i stand to be corrected however…
Do we have any airline that goes to Europe?
Ilyashi ya shupa nomba…..
Of course we do not have an international airline, this ban means no chartered planes registered in Zambia will be allowed to fly in EU air space, the presidential jet will never fly accross EU. In short any airline registered in Zambia currently or in future will never be allowed.
This is a humiliation to the our country and shows how unserious the national leadership is. How come we have countries in Africa that have had civil wars for a long time, but their air transport standards are internationally acceptable? Zambia has never been at war and yet our infrastructure and attitudes are like we are emerging from. Loot at how dirty Lusaka is. Authorities at international airport even fail to maintain lawns. Our public transport in the cities, is managed by kaponyas, government has failed to come up with a simple framework to clean up public transport. So, EU ban is not a surprise.
Got rid of the Long standing MAS( Roan Air ” Zambian Airways”)So as to get Zambezi airlines that will not even be recorgnised wow!
Please read:
“All air carriers CERTIFIED by the Zambia authorities with
responsibility for regulatory oversight, including the newly launched Zambezi Airlines are banned”.
If an airline is certified/.registered in Zambia or if Zambia has that airline’s safety regulation measures meaning that Zambia is in charge of measuring/monitoring the airline’s safety standards etc… then it’s banned! No such airline exists except for Zambian-owned airlines. This takes us back to Aero-Zambia, where I had an experience when the airline from RSA did a side flip and all the hostesses went flying into people’s seats and the rest of the journey was a deafening silence until we got to Lusaka. The next thing was it was banned and closed! Then we also had the Gabon air disaster, which shows foreigners that was major breaching of safety measures and disregard of human welfare in the whole tragedy. Anyway, it comes too late this announcement! Maybe now we can wake up as politicians and begin to realise that we need strategy for our survival or we simply get colonised by RSA, of which I prefer the latter!
What do you expect if Mwanawasa allowed Zambian Airways to operate illegally without an IATA Licence? And using 50 year old planes such as Boeing 737-200 made in 1964? Dont blame Rupiah guys he owns no planes at all! Besides we can also ban all EU planes from Zambian airspace.
This is an effort to have RB stay home for at least 2 days in a week. Have you guys realized that RB travels 4 days of the week? This is how he is making serious money. He is paid an hourly rate (in USD) everytime he steps of of state house for a function. Think about it!!
We do not have an International Airline in Zambia, and this is sad! Lusaka, Nairobi, Johannesburg are cities and all have International Airports: Lusaka ‘Intnal’ airport, Jomo kenyata Intnal airport and Oliver Tambo Intnal Airport. Of these lusaka ‘International’ airport is the best in terms of poor standards. The only thing which makes Lusaka ‘International’ airport functioning is the people of Zambia and other Countries coming into and going out of Zambia.
The country is now being run by RB’s standards what do you expect. His little energy is being invested in fighting everyone who opposes him.Maybe we need Prof Chirwa to sort out the avaition industry, kaya.
Watchdog could please clear this story, which Zambian airline has been baned? This story is not quite clear. But if it includes RB’s plane then that will be an effective cost saving measure to the Zambians.
Yes, the ban is directed at GRZ. Yes, Lska airport is a disgrace for this century.KK did his best but all the other 3 presidents have failed us.
There’s no Zambian plane which goes beyond Africa apart from presidential, Zambian planes only operate locally and if they want to go outside the country, they only go as far as South Africa, that’s all! So which airline have they banned to fly to European states? We use British airline to go beyond Africa…
The ka AIRPORT is really a shame, RB dont u see airports for other countries. Dora would have done something had it not been for her resignation from Transport and Communications
The ban is so bad to us since we dont have any airline that goes international,Maybe Zambezi airline tried to register…Yaba mwe banthu tinkhaleko serious.
The airlines that have been banned from Zambia are the Zambian registered airlines and/or those to be registered. In Zambia’s case it is not an issue with any specific Airline per se but the perceived inadequate capacity of civil aviation authorities to enforce and maintain regulatory standards of safety. It is an indictment of govt rather than the airlines. In simple words: the EU does not have faith in the Zambian govt’s capacity to regulate and maintain safety standards of the Airlines that are registered by the Zambian govt. Second, it may have come to the notice of EU civil aviation officials that the Zambian registered Airlines are using very old second hand planes. This is why even the Angolan Airlines has been banned except for their new fleet of Boeing 777s which is still allowed to fly into Lisbon.
OK, I am lost. Which Zambian Airlines are on that list?
British Airways has a direct flight from Lusaka International Airport to Heathrow International Airport. Has it also been banned??
The story is incomplete. Has Zambezi Airlines been banned or is it just Zambian Airways??
Can someone fill in the blanks for me. The story is very incomplete and leaves us guessing. Ba Editor, do something.
Aka
I do not understand what you are implying. PY makes more sense.
Aka
Mwaphonya chizungu ndimwe baba. British Airways has a direct flight to and from Lusaka. Have they also been banned??
The EU has a list of countries whose planes are allowed to fly in their air space. It does not necessarily mean that all countries on the “allowed list” actually have planes flying there or those now on the “not allowed list” were flying there. Therefore this story is just telling us that any Zambian airline (regardless of the economic capacity) was allowed to fly before but not anymore.
I this this story says ALL airlines from Zambia. It is not saying Zambian airlines. Chizungu. There may not be airlines from direct to EU but some airline start from Zambia with final destination EU.
How do you ban something which is not there
All air carriers
certified by the
authorities with
responsibility for
regulatory oversight of
Zambia, including,
Zambezi Airlines Z/AOC/001/2009 Unknown Zambia
Do we even have a Plane flying from Zambia to EU states? The only plane I am aware of is RBs. Are they trying to help us keep him in State house to attend to the numerous problems he needs to be addressing? It would be a very good move, really.
Yo barry is right. This story is incomplete. Which airline from Zambia that flys to Europe is affected by this ban?
which Zambian airline from Zambia has been baned?
Maybe it will stop RB from flying around?
This is an insult to my country. These people are fools
