RB: I want to watch the reed dance

President Rupiah Banda has a greed to stay a little bit longer in Swaziland  in order to watch the reed dance.
President Banda told the queen mother of the Swazi Kingdom that he was happy with the warm welcome he and his entourage received and agreed to stay a bit longer to witness the Reed Dance ceremony.

He was speaking last evening when he paid a courtesy call to the queen mother  at her Eludzidzini Royal Residence.
President Banda said there was need for the two countries to continue working together to solve problems affecting the region and the continent.

He said Swaziland was an old country with huge experience on how to keep its citizens together and diverse culture from which Zambia could benefit from.

Mr. Banda said since he was the youngest President, not in terms of age but years in office, he expected to benefit more from the relationship and cooperation from the King Mswati 111.

The president said he has already benefited from the cooperation that has continued to exist between the two countries and hoped the two countries would continue enjoying the warm relationship.

President Rupiah Banda , the two deputy Prime Ministers from Zimbabwe, two South African cabinet ministers plus President Jacob Zuma’s wife and many others are some of the dignitaries that will be at the Reed Dance (Umhlanga).

Thousands of maidens were commissioned by His Majesty the King on Wednesday to go cut the reed. They are expected to deliver it on Sunday at the Ludzidzini Cattle Byre with Monday, which is the main day, being a public holiday.

  • Kamini wrote on 29 August, 2009, 10:15

Leave our president alone. Why don’t you people find something constructive to talk about. He will only watch the reed dance and won’t dance with the maidens privately

    @ Dawa 05….

dont be silly, get a grip ok, do u understand what naked is, secondly desist from using the lords name in vain….

breasts are a common feature in Afrikan culture, u only have to see how many women breast in public, go to village funerals or traditional ceremonies and c women with bare breasts dancing e.g in southern, eastern and central provinces.

    Poor western wanna be!

I thought he has a head of state engagement in Libya. He has been derailed by naked chicks. Sweet!
As for Gigolo, you need to get a grip. The girls are naked. If exposing breasts is part of our culture, how come it is only allowable at traditional ceremonies? Why don’t we see women walking like that mu Cairo? Some people have issues with ladies wearing barebacks or clothes that expose too much cleavage.

You are calling your friend a western wannabe and yet your name says you are one. Your name says you are a male prostitute, something totally alien to our culture and yet widespread in the West! Stop exposing yourself, it’s embarrassing.

Tekwakutwala ka Chiluba ku Swaziland, because he can just say “God brought me here to see His creation, and if I take from what God has created, what is wrong with that?”

  • Lusakan Gigolo wrote on 29 August, 2009, 11:36

    @ Splaka,

silly billy, by your definition all women breast feeding in public are exposing their nakedness.

And if Cairo rd any other street is your point of reference with regards to native Afrikan culture and traditions my friend are smart indeed.

By your difinition Addis Ababa drive is our culture too.

Just because some deviants and perverts friends of yours have problems with womens cleveages and bare backs should not allow them/you define nakedness for everyone.

Poor sod you pick on my forum name to have a dig at me….hehehe!

Breasts in Afrikan culture are not nakedness period.

RB is persecuting Kabwela and yet he is going to the reed dance. My foot! The reed dance is pornography.

  • splaka wrote on 29 August, 2009, 13:57

Gigolo, somehow, your view of nakedness is valid and mine is invalid. Really. Can we carry out a poll right here and see how many people will agree with you. Morality and culture are what the majority believes. Bro, you have issues. Sort them out. Your views do not comform with the majority views. If exposing your breasts is not nakedness, why did the police arrest the woman who flashed the public in Longacres? As you have said, a woman may breastfeed in public, but have you noticed that your statement is qualified? If any other woman is to expose herself, would we still look kindly on her?
Please, just because you have access to a keyboard does not give you the right to make ignorant postings. Educate yourself first!

Our president has nothing to do. are there no problems in Zambia for him to solve;;why should he just spend time only to watch those girls

  • Aquamarine wrote on 29 August, 2009, 19:27

The reed dance is demeaning to women and should be banned. If heads of states like ours started shunning the ceremony they would do a lot of advocacy work on women instaed of eagerly agrreing to attend it.

  • Aquamarine wrote on 29 August, 2009, 19:31

Sorry. Meant to say: The reed dance is demeaning to women and should be banned. If heads of state like ours started shunning the ceremony they would do a lot of advocacy work on behalf women instead of eagerly agreeing to attend it.

  • dawa05 wrote on 29 August, 2009, 20:56

Lusakan Gigolo, i guess you should target the word silly on yourself for seeing sense in President Banda watch under age kids being forced to expose their nakedness. If indeed there is nothing wrong as you seem to suggest why dont they pick grown- up women to expose there beasts. And if it is a normal African practice why dont you allow your sisters or wife loom around home with there breasts out. The problem with you MMD supporters is that you seem to have a weird attitude, as long as it involves your leaders you fail to distinguish the right from the wrong. For instance, you see nothing wrong in Chiluba banking money in a government account, even when it is unheard of anywhere in the world.

  • kwathukummawa wrote on 30 August, 2009, 11:22

Tricky, diverse cultures of this world, complexes and where we live all determine our perceptions of nudity. The women in bikinis, g-strings and transparent attire parading on our TV screens and in Newspapers, especially the page 3 girl in the Sun, The Daily Star and others are a clear example of how where we are determines what we view as nudity.

To be honest, those Swazi are not nude if compared to the Page 3 girl in The Sun and other images thrust down our throats by Western Media.

uyu king King Mswati echibuba echikulu! Surely displaying your monthers like this. Evn if ts ur traditional ceremony ths is nt thy way ts suppose to be.

  • Lampaz wrote on 1 September, 2009, 16:30

We should all attend this ponographic ceremony and experience the RB experience. Guess RB spend lots of time watching ponographic movies instead of work. Do Swaziland have activists to challenge this type stupidity in the name of foolish culture in the 21st century?

  • Techi wrote on 1 September, 2009, 16:37

What do you expect from RB who even saw porno in a woman giving birth? He is just sick in the mind that is why he can’t differentiate a young girl(Umwishikulu)from an old woman(Mbuya).
