Incarcerated Mandevu MP Jean Kapata and her Munali counterpart, Mumbi Phiri have been admitted to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

But police spokesperson Bonnie Kapeso has maintained that the two will not be given police bond but will have to appear in court on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Civil  society organisations spearheading the honking against Fredrick Chiluba have increased the time to honk and whistle.

The two MPs are said to be treated for high blood pressure as Jean Kapata has reportedly collapsed at the police cells.

Police spokesperson Kapeso said that the two, with other arrested protesters, were Friday formally charged with conduct likely to breach public peace and unnecessary hooting contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

He said this charge does not merit paying admission of guilty fee at the police station and be released but requires going to court.

On the extended time of hooting, civil society spokesperson Samuel Mulafulafu says the the hooting will now be for 24 hours every day.

He said the police will have to create more space in cells to detain all the protesters.

This is absurd. Why should they be denied bond? These are 2 Honourables will not flee the country. ZP please do the respectable and right thing, don’t behave like cadres. Some of you think that MMD govt will last forever. I pity you, you will one day be on the other side!

There is space in the cells? Really? Where is all this space coming from? The prison service is complaing of the bed space problem and the police are boasting of space? Where does RB find these id.iots?

    Kaumb,

MPs have no immunity against criminal charges. The overal objective will be realized by the fact that these criminals will not come out same any more. Three nights in our jails is enough to be released and expedite the process of putting wills and other custodial paper work not bin place yet. PF has to start preparing for bye-elections considering the already failed health of its two criminals. You know such detentials are dedicated to experts for quick fix.Had Dean Mung’omba betrayed by Dr.Derrick Chitala had not gone in, he could be ruled instead of Mwanawasa.By the time he was coming out, he had lost all the millions of Dollars, wife and children but left with human shell in him awaiting death. The few days My husband Sata spend in Chimbokaila left a clogged heart now surviving on pace setters in his arteries

Hey, Samuel Mulafulafu, where were you on Friday? In hiding? You didn’t go honking why? And you are getting this all wrong. Police don’t have to create more space in cells; they’ll just pack everybody in the same cells like sardines and may have to use containers. With the heat, many will indeed faint. So my advice to you is that “don’t try this”! In fact I would like to see Samuel honking by the Police Station on Church Road this Friday if he has any balls!

Some of the views sound like they are composed by men who are mentally retarded. Bonnie Kapeso, whether receiving orders from above or acting on his own volition is very unprofessional. In a civilised justice system, it’s impossible to prove the case but this is Zambia were standards are in the gutter and therefore anything is possible.

some comments make me wonder, regardless of how educated, exposed some zambians are the level of primitivity still remains un affected. the two women are fighting for what most of uninformed people would not stand up to because they do not know how much they have been deprived and by who..that is why our country cant progress due to people like some of the bloggers here, its a shame

  • boboy wrote on 4 October, 2009, 15:57

release them you chaps..what wrong have they done now?chiluba is a thief!!

  • wondering wrote on 4 October, 2009, 16:52

Release these patriotic citizens immediately! What sort of system arrests good citizens and gives criminals like chiluba free reign. These people are simply standing up for their country to restore the judicial system. Many people especially those in govt and political appointments know that the current course this govt is pursuing is wrong but are too scared to talk because they are concerned about their jobs.
Lets give credit to these individuals who are brave enough to challenge the corrupt system that has resorted to intimidating and bullying its citizenry. One measure of a bad system is to look how a society treats its women and children. On that basis Hon Phiri and others must be released immediately before people start calling us Barbarians.

  • Bental wrote on 5 October, 2009, 11:34

The police should create more cell rooms for us because we are many and we are not even scared to be arrested… Why did the police arrest only Kapata and Mumbi, yet we are many who were honking? If they don’t know where to find us, they should just come along cairo road every friday after 17hrs, they will be able to pick thousands! This week we have ordered vuvuzelas from S.A and we are ready to turn Lusaka into a football stadium fever! Very soon we will start matching in masses until justice for all is restored! Chiluba is a thief who should be tried in the high court and no one should block the appeal…

  • Engines wrote on 5 October, 2009, 15:53

What kind of freedom fighters are these? The Mandelas of this world spent 27yrs in prison! These chaps cant even last a day in cell. Already the BPs are high before even going to remand prisons.

  • Senior Citizen wrote on 5 October, 2009, 17:00

The police do not need resources to cage as many mercenaries and extremists these fanatics have become. There are many containers and infrastructures to dump them in as they are made to feast on beans. You don’t give beds or descent full meals to mercenaries. There is sufficient space for extremists.Infact those that will be charged and penalized, will significantly help boost the state treasury with their Donor money in court fees.
