Chifire asks bar owners to be responsible

Government has asked business houses to have a sense of responsibility and help curb the increasing number of teenagers patronizing bars and taverns in the country.

Youths and child Development Deputy Minister, Angela Cifire says government is concerned that some businessmen and women have continued to abrogate the law concerning the admission of underage children in bars.

Ms. Cifire said this to ZANIS in Lusaka today.

Ms. Cifire’s comment comes following the arrest of about 130 teenagers who were found patronizing bars and taverns in Lusaka and Ndola over the weekend.

She said there was need to find ways and means of protecting young people from patronizing such places.

She called on parents to exercise responsibility over their children by not allowing them to go into bars and taverns at a tender age.

Ms. Cifire said government supports the councils’ move to arrest the culprit  as this is one way of addressing the situation.

On Saturday about 100 teenage boys and girls in Ndola and over 33 in Lusaka  were arrested by a combine team of state and council police for patronizing bars.
