MMD national convention to be held soon – RB

President Rupiah Banda says the ruling MMD party will hold a convention contrary to allegations that they do want to do so.

President Banda said this today, when he addressed several Solwezi residents at Solwezi airport on arrival from Chipata Eastern Province.

He said his party has not refused to hold a convention as being expressed in sections of society that that it was only concentrating on development.

Mr. Banda, noted that people should not be destructed by issues of the convention but instead focus on strengthening the party.

Calls for the ruling party to hold the convention have in recent months reached a mix of opinions throughout the country with a number of provincial MMD committees suggesting that the convention should not be held as Mr Banda would be the sole candidate at the convention.

Northern Province MMD Provincial chairperson Grievas Sikasote said during Mr Banda’s tour to the Province that the convention will only drain the party coffers which can be used in other developmet areas.

Meanwhile, Mr Banda has thanked the MMD party membership in Northwestern Province for dignity to the party and the Presidency.

The President has further urged people of Solwezi not worry about the PF/UPND pact which he said has no basics.

Mr. Banda urged Solwezi residents to vote for MMD candidate Albert Chifita for the forthcoming November 19, 2009, Solwezi Central Bye- elections seat.

The seat fell vacant due to the untimemly death of area Member Ben Tetamashimba, recently.

The PF/UPND pact is fielding Watson Lumba, Forum for Democratic Alternative (FDA) is fielding Muhammed Kalela while Thomas Kafula will stand as an independent candidate.

And Noth western MMD chairperson Peter Patel has said that MMD will not lose the seat at all costs.

Mr. Patel said the party is strong in the province and would beat the pact come November 19th.

President Banda is in Solwezi to drum up support for MMD candidate for the November 19th Solwezi central by elections.

Too good for the party as there will be no bulldozzing. It will be through the ballot unless otherwise as it has been known. But please let the people decide freely and fairly.

So when you’re caught, there’s a reversal and you suddenly feel totally incompetent and on top of the humiliation, a doubt is sown because you thought you could get away with it and now you know you can’t. Mpombo, Magande, Chirwa, Namakando et al, feel vindicated for having the guts to stand up and be counted.

Don’t worry your time is coming. you may think you are clever but it is coming soon.
Big up for Magande, Chirwa, Mpombo and all people who stand up for the truth.

Senior citizen has run mad on KLusaka Times, he has swallowed his vomits. Last time he suported calls for no convention. Such grey haired chaps should be a source of worry since they are in leadership. RB will sweat for his money at the convention. Mulogonti and Mabenga are likely to lose!

I dont think RB meant what he said. Its on record that the people there want to follow what the MMD constitution. What else do you expect him to say especially for those against him.

Awe sugar fye Confusion at its best.Drama ya pa zed himself his the actor. Its too late and if the pact wins this one, we may just hear and see a lot of reverse statements e.g appointment of Sakwiba as VP reappointment of George Mpombo,Magande,Shakafuswa,Masebo, reinstatement of the entire Western P mmd exe. But Zamtel pazafa Muntu ndiye pension wangu nane ni lyelepo. Not forgetting appointing Patrick as youth and sport minister to keep the legacy.Desperate kicks of a dying horse.

This is great news indeed. Harry Mwanga Nkumbula, a President who was robed from the Zambian people once said “The first thing that a leader must achieve from his people is cooperation. People must be made to feel that the organizer is part of them. Members are not inferior to their leader. People must feel you are with them and if possible undergo the same suffering. Once you do that you have gone a long way in winning them to your side.”

RB knows very well he has as good a chance as any challenger to the Party Presidency. Magande, Mpombo, and all their supporters must now start campaigning so we see who will emerge the true President of the MMD. After this election we should expect everyone who loses to remain in the party and not run away to form factions or defect to smaller parties such as the PF and UPND after making the party spend so much money on the convention. I would like Magande and Mpombo to challenge Rupiah Banda and not chicken out and give us stupid reasons…

I am also happy to hear that TEKERE is back as an active politician…PF Sata and HH will have their macth in Tekere,. Just watch this unfold.

He has to make U-turns on several fronts if he has to win back the credibility he’s lost in just one year of his leadership. Besides a turn around on the convention, his government should appeal against Chiluba’s acquittal; he should reverse the privatisation of Zamtel so that proper tender procedures could be followed; he should stop meddling in the Judiciary, etcetera. It is never too late in life to make amends. Even at 72 years of age, a man can father twins! There is a precedence to the aforesaid. We only seek to be governed properly. Is that asking for too much?

We did not want pronouncements on the issue surrounding the MMD convention, no. Its contitutional dictates in MMD and not Bwezani Banda can start telling me that its his prerogative to hold one. Its a must that the convention is held and it must be freely contested by all interested pipo in MMD.
