Kabwela and Husband Henry Ngilazi (in suit)

The magistrate who is trying Post news editor Chansa Kabwela on the charge of  circulating obscene material says he will only make the ruling today at 14 hours.

Magistrate Charles Kafunda Monday morning adjourned the ruling saying he had to reschedule the matter to the afternoon. He didn’t offer the reason.

“I have to reschedule the matter to 14.00 hours. The matter will come up at 14.00 hours for ruling. I am sorry for the inconvenience,” he announced in court.

Kabwela and several sympathisers were in attendance. Her husband Henry Ngilazi of ZNBC was also in court.

  1. Jenin Zulu says:

It is a shame that after 45 years of independence, our Police investigator of 19 years experience does not understand the basics of her job.
This young reporter did not have to go through all this. Will somebody apologize now????
Why don’t we as a nation change our mentality & forget about some of these non-progressive activities! It is just a shear waste of our meagre resources. I surely don’t believe anybody was convinced this young girl had done any wrong, otherwise if this is the level of official thinking, then I’m very sorry for our nation.

  2. Ackson Banda says:

It’s high time our politicians desisted from giving directives on issues that concern professional bodies. The legal advice of George Kunda have always been misleading our Presidents. This man is a liability to national development and I don’t know why our President is still keeping him.Thumbs up to Kabwela.

  3. Pentagon says:

Please Chansa, it’s high time that you formalised your marriage and change the maiden name. Probably some of these chaps were just after you, nobody knows the truth. God has vindicated you and please continue praying. Enjoy your work and let also your husband quickly deliver ZNBC TV 2, we are tired of MMD this and that.

  4. inxs says:

Comedy of Errors Incorporated in the Republic of Zambia hereby rests its case!

  5. OKOCHA says:

SO WHAT HAS RB TO SAY? HIS DIRECTIVE TO ARREST KABWELA WAS A FOOLISH ONE. RB HAS LOST! TWABAWINA EYAEEE!!!!! TWABAWINA EYAEEE, TUKABWELA MU MAINSA EYAEEE NINSHI MFULA ILELOKA EYAEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COMEDY OF ERRORS RB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. RB says:

You can now photograph any thing ..balls etc and just circulate them around! no problem its legal.

  7. Abantu says:

Well thought of by Kunda, his bosses and their servant Kafunda. If the case had gone the other way, they would have been completely finished-politically. This is a window dressing act for the MMD.

  8. monalisasyndrome says:

COURT FINDS KABWELA WITH NO CASE! This is a resounding judgement.

  9. Latest says:

She has been found with no case to answer, Bwezani where art thou? Chansa Kabwela has been found with no case to answer.

LUSAKA chief resident magistrate Charles Kafunda delivered the ruling before a parked court room this afternoon after adjourning the matter earlier in the morning.

This is a case in which Kabwela, a news editor at the Post newspaper was charged with one count of circulating obscene materials.
    Full story coming up…The Post

  10. Chilombe says:

    Hooray! Kabwela has been acquitted!!

  11. nairb danda says:

BREAKING NEWS!!!! CHANSA KABWELA, NEWS EDITOR WITH THE POST NEWSPAPER HAS BEEN ACQUITTED OF THE CHARGE OF CIRCULATING OBSCENE MATERIALS. CHIEF MAGISTRATE CHARLES KAFUNDA ACQUITTED MS. KABWELA WHEN HE DELIVERED RULING IN THE MATTER THIS AFTERNOON.

  12. Mulenga--Newcastle says:

The Police and judiciary in Zambia are in the forefront when it comes to abuse of Human Rights in Zambia. When will Zambia be free from these draconian tools of government oppression. You and I cannot speak (except for a little extent on this blog where we are anonmous)be we have no freedom of speech in Zambia.Ruphiah Banda Kanitundila should be ashamed of himself for finding the pictures taken by Kabwela pornographic. How can he be aroused by a woman giving birth out of accepeted norms.

  13. Mulenga--Newcastle says:

A comedy of errors indeed! The Zambian judiciary is a total mockery.

  14. loverman says:

So Ngilazi is the owner of Kabwela. Its news to me. I hope he is not victimised becoz of that. Why cant she be called Mrs Ngilazi so as to avoid unneccessary advances. She is pretty men

  15. RB says:

Find her with case to answer and then just throw her in jail. Good lesson to these chaps

  16. Zedian says:

ring ring…your excellency i have just postponed the case…what’s your decision?
Weo Kafunda convict her… we did it with kaChiluba… we dribbled the Zambians… give her five years.
But The Post… they will make noise!…
Weo Kafunda don’t worry about that… we need to prove to them that we hold power in our hands… just do what i am telling you… my talktime is running out, there’s no Zain here in Italy. do as i have told you…
    Ok your excellency!

  17. I have large web traffic watching this decision. Interest in Chansa Kabwela is as big as the Lubna Hussein case. If the judge doesn’t acquit Chansa Kabwela, he will make her an international star for her courage in trying to save Zambia’s dying babies. We respect national customs and traditions, but not the ones in this case. President Banda must get join the international community in believing that maternal health is a top health issue. Childbirth is not porn. This case makes a mockery of Zambia’s judicial process.

  18. The eye says:

The magistrate iz consulting with rb, am sure he iz on the line from italy- yes boss…which way…oh, ok boss, ati how many yrz do i give her…oh, ok, yes sir, i undastnd…how many…three yrz?…ok boss, i wil tel them so at 14hrz boss…ofcourse boss i wont say it came 4rom u, and by the way, can u pliz bring me sum nice gud crocodile shoez boss…?”

  19. Zedian says:

I hope Kafunda is not consulting RB whether to acquit or convict Chansa. Remember, this is the same procedure they took with Chiluba. The day the judgment was supposed to be, they postponed only to return another day and tell the court that the thief was innocent. Is Kafunda waiting for RB’s phone call? God save us from the corrupt MMD judicial system!

  20. so this is the same procedure chinyama took only to hear an aquital but since the post is an enemy of the state, we will hear something else, lets wait and see. meanwhile we should completely disband the national soccer team and concentrate on boxing and swimming and running

  21. Amanda Phiri says:

I hope the young lady will be aquitted.
