Esther fails to beat American boxer

Judges in the fight between Zambian female boxer Esther Phiri and America’s  Terri Blair decided to declare it a draw.

This was after the two women fought violently in ten rounds without a clear winner emerging

The two were contesting in Women International Boxing Association (WIBA) world light welterweight bout at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.

Esther was under pressure most of the time and sustained a cut below her right eye. The referee had to temporarily stop the fight in the sixth round to allow Esther clean the blood.

The ever advancing Terri had Esther slip in the tenth round but did not fall as she just touched the floor with both hands.

After the fight Esther said that Terri is a good fighter who kept punching her head.

Terri for her part said she is ready for rematch.

    Americans will always stand by their own. So Esther is ours, hence need to stand with her. Home ground advantage is the reason she shouldn’t be beaten. A draw is the fair decision the judges took because she was not cleanly beaten.. The Bemba say: Umwine wa mushi tabipilwa masha. Elyo kuli Belinda: uko ushili imbwa yobe taibutuka. Kanshi ba Belinda bale wayawaya fye tabaishiba inkonya ishakuti bauma mwine musunga uutafita minwe.

    The American was able to read Esther’s game plan very quickly and utilized her weak points. She is a Biology Graduate in fact I heard she is a PhD …could have it wrongly but our Esther and her Coach can hardly read and write. Most games these days have become very scientific in nature. This Americano is also a Karate expert and you could see it in her quick reflects. My advice is that Esther should retire if she can’t afford a good education and a good coaching site else she will be smashed to death…this is boxing and many have died in the ring. In fact I hear her coach refused her to go to Germany for training…why??WIBA is a different cut altogether. I was very sorry for Esther. She had no clue what to do.

    Some Zambians are funny really. That was a competition and each of them was eager to win. How do you say she lost when the foreign judges gave a draw? Learn to support your country mates, and not just be jealousy. The reporting from Watchdog is also negative and substandard-lacking facts. If you read what lusakatimes or post have written you will see the difference. If we don’t change as Zambians on our pull him down attitude then development will elude us.

    Okey that fight was not easy .That girl from states ni olimba lets face it .I do respect Esther for wat she has done but She has yet to fight in the Higher Federations like WBC and IBF .She is good but needs to improve You do expect more from a person with five International belts .For the winner in that fight I am just not sure but that Belinda girl was damn agressive .
