ACC nabs Top Motors MD over hearses bribe

The anti Corruption Commission-ACC has arrested Top Motors Managing Director Liang Ge for attempting to bribe an officer from the Commission.

Mr. Liang allegedly offered the officer K50 Million to destroy evidence surrounding the buying of 100 hearses.

He allegedly gave the ACC officer K15 Million cash gratification as inducement to destroy the evidence.

ACC Spokesperson Timothy Moono has confirmed the arrest to ZNBC News.

The ACC is investigating issues surrounding the buying of 100 hearses and 60 light trucks meant for the Keep Zambia Clean Campaign, from Top Motors.

The ACC instituted investigations into the purchase of the hearses after late Local Government Minister, Benny Tetamashimba reported the matter to the commission.

The late minister had alleged that the hearses which were bought at $29,000 each were supposed to cost less than $10,000 each.

This is not good news for the increasingly embattled and weakly defended legancy and Silver Masebo. Its very hard to cover up vices when you have no control of the machinery.

It seems both Masebo and the late Teta were dribbled by the junior officers, I see the procurement team that includes the PS dancing later.

Sorry to say this but its true that the Chinese do not see corruption as a vice. What does this tell us about the MMD and procurement????

You may be right Chicago City! The PS should also write to the president and the case will be closed.

Is this the reason the ‘Legacy” is so violently defended. There was Simon Miti and his Kapoko, are we seeing another villain being exposed. I only hope its not the begining of this nonsense of hunting down former leaders. If it is a fight aginst corruption, please, let it be just that.

Masebo is very articulate, Teta was not. When the “Hearsegate” scandle was unfolding,Masebo vehemently defended it all the transanctions. Teta dispite losing the verbal skirmishes maintained that there still was something fishy about their procurement. Now, someone is trying to bribe someone, to cover up details of a ‘straight forward ‘transaction? Well, lets wait and see. Good lucky to all the players, but remember, you and I are the victims. Our money was abused!

A bird tells me that despite being awarded a bail, the Chinese CEO was in the cells as at last evening. Reason- cannot find working surities as demanded by the courts. Hope he has not been left to dry. If he is abandoned by the ‘friends’ he might just play in the hands of the investigators and spill the beans. This might unfold fast!!!

In the first instance I for one didnt see any need of buying hearses, what for corruption when we have no roads for them in rural villages, 2 no medicines in hospitals neither towns. stinking corruption,
