Kunda: demonstrating against me not solution

Vice president George Kunda has called on all media bodies in the country to dialogue with government.

Mr. Kunda said the planned demonstration by the media bodies over government’s draft bill is not a solution.
He said it was important for the media bodies to concentrate on producing their self regulatory mechanism.

The Vice President wondered why the media bodies were planning to demonstrate over the bill which is in draft form and not yet law.
Mr. Kunda said the bill was being discussed by government and other stakeholders.

He was speaking to journalists in Lusaka today.

The Vice President noted that government was preparing its own media bill which is an internal matter that is being discussed but that someone leaked the information adding that the document is still classified.

Mr. Kunda stressed that government is entitled to propose its own media bill which will help the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services to have a well developed media bill.

The Vice President said there was no need for people to cause anarchy in the country saying the country needs to have a responsible media.

He urged all the professional bodies to engage government when making bills which affect professionals.

Mr. Kunda has since called on the people of Zambia to use 2010 as a year for reconciliation and for the development of country.

  1. The Reflector says:

Media Bodies must go ahead with planned demonstrations against Kunda and his goverment. I encourge the opposition parties, NGOs, Labour Movements, Students, Workers to all join in the demonstrations. If the proposed government bill became law, Zambia will have been taken back to the stone age. We must stop this nonsense now and before 2011 elections. VIVA demostrations!!! VIVA!!!

  2. Imagine this guy was our President, look at what little power has done to his heard. I will kill anyone who would dare tell me lawyers make good presidents because it’s only good people who make good leaders. I don’t think LEVY would have kept such a quarrelsome moron as veep even for a minute longer. All he knows is causing confusion and leave the fire-fighting bit to the inept Shikapwasha and the other useless lawyer Mulongoti. what a bunch of jokers these guys are!

  3. Chicago city says:

It is part of the solution, it is a big way of showing how unpopular you are. You have schemes of haunting your critics!

  4. By saying that “the country needs to have a responsible media,” he actually means that all the news media in Zambia should be operated like the Times of Zambia, Zambia Daily Mail, ZANIS, and ZNBC. The Zambia Daily Mail motto should be changed to “Serving the Nation with Fear and Favour.”

Kaunda is one of the useless lawyers Zambia has ever produced. Anyone who exposes the wrongs of the govt is causing anarchy but he forgets that when the govt is not for many but for the few is a source of anarchy and the base for un democratic tendencies which we are witnessing from this failed govt. It is ill thought for Kunda to tell the nation to reconcile and forgive each other when his govthas failed to reconcile with itself and is a source of hatred, uncompromising, driven by evil motives to bring the UNIP dictatorship rule of law that we refused by removing the UNIP and its govt from power. Zambians will not shunder or circum to Rupiah Banda and Kunda dictatorship rule of law to hold on to power. What Kunda must know is that within the cabinet they are ministers agitated and fed up with his handling of the media regulation and the interference with the judicial system. It is up to the people making the Constitution to look at dual ministerial appointments and the conflict of interests this have created. Kunda ‘s appetite for the dual appointments have gone to his brain such that he can not see that it is perpetual criminal, abuse of the constitution, rule of law and power that is making the nation angry with the govt. when demoted, the same private media he wants to silence and eliminate from the scenary will be the same he will want to use. The media is number four branch in the democratic society because it plays an important part in making the govt to rule within the fabrics of democracy(checks and balances). To enhance democracy Zambians need the media than they need Kunda and Rupiah Banda or MMD or any political party that wants to supress and terminate the voice of the people. Kunda is mad and has lost the plot. Psychiatrics/ Neurologists need to his mental state. I’m sure his illness is having impact on his thinking and decision making process. The RB is globaltrotter who does not know what is happening as a result he is legally fed with wrong legal advice that in future may land him in the courts of law. Rupiah Banda must act or face the rule of law after 2011.

Just this leakage Mr George Red Lips Pelican, Kunda should tell you something. People within are sick of you to their teeth. It simply means they disagree with you. Go on journo brothers, and demonstrate.

  7. chichi says:

Kunda is targeting 2011 he wants RB to lose all the popularity so he can use his manupulative tactis to get power. He is an oppotunist

  8. Yambayamba says:

Bullies are amazing characters. They portray themselves as such invisible beings but when someone stands up to them and confronts them, they shrink and call for ‘mama’ to rescue them—-and his ‘mama’ now is CLASSIFICATION. What a bully!!

Kunda is a political bully who needs to be confronted and made to realise that govt in Zambia is “by the people for the people.” He should realise that the Nation is much bigger and stronger than he is.

By the way, I have never heard of a bill of this nature being classified. Secrete, yes, but classified?! Mmmmm, we are not talking about a National Defence bill, Intelligence bill, or a National Security bill here, are we?

And why is it that any demonstration against the machinations of govt is categorized as subversive or anarchy?! Only detectors at heart love this kind of talk and labeling of citizens—-shame, shame, shame!!!
