Patriotic Front president Michael Sata has said that he possess two University degrees.
Sata, who did not disclose the universities that conferred him with he degrees, said he has one degree in Arts and History while the other degree is in political science.
He was speaking at one of the local FM radio stations in Lusaka.
He did not say when he obtained the degrees but indicated that from the time the MMD ‘crooks’ started talking about the degree qualification, he has been doing something about it.
Sata said that he is ready to have his degrees scrutinized but only when the time has come.
He has told MMD national Secretary that his efforts at coming up with a degree clause is like shooting in the dark

Degree clause is the joke of the year at the NCC. Of all important issues these dull creatures come up with the useless degree clause. It does not matter whether it targets Sata or not. The thruth is that this clause is so insipid period.

Why should he be the one to be made to display his degree certificates and not others, including MPs?
Mr Sata and his advisers must now just concentrate on Party mobilisation, while the rest of us must get on to profitable business, if there is nothing more to say.
The Government should also concentrate on national development, and take care not to be destructed by the NCC, because there may be people there seeking to introduce chaos in the country by bringing in controversial clauses that generate high emotions among the citizenry.
I agree with Kapatamoyo. If Sata says he has a degree or degrees why should that revelation cause so much tension among MMD and NCC proponents. After all we have all been told that the degree clause was not meant to ‘fix’ him. Looks like they people who proposed the clause are the ones who seem to have been “fixed” instead. Qualification by degree is fake and might lead us into trouble coz its not a degree that will rule, the heart for the pipo the leader has is what is important.Of course a learned person is good for that office but its not obviuos that a degree holder will make a good leader or better than a non degree holder.Some of these degree holders will steal even from the poorest to fatten their pockets at the expense of the nation.We risk being robbed of a good leader by this clause.

Mr SATA is not only up against MMD, but also against his own party members and his ‘allies’ in UPND! They all voted in agreement in favour of a clause that would help bar SATA!

The new inclusive constitution is very detailed for every citizen. Under it the electoral process requires that aspirants present their nomination papers with the returning officer who in the case of Presidential nominations is the Chief Justice of the country. In doing so, under the proposed law, one of the requirements for the returning officer to accept a presidential candidature will be evidence that the applicant holds a degree from a recognized university.Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate no problem as long as it is transcripted degree with all credit hours verifiable.
The verification process will be costless to the state and those with clouds on this must turn their degrees with the Chief Justice early to beat the nomination hurdles that could result in extrusion.
In completion of its mandated work, theNCC is leaving this constitution in the enactment stage before coming law by the current parliament. Again as regards the degree clause, Zambian Professional credentialing bodies will examine, evaluate the four year credentialing college degree conferred with transcripted credit hours on file.
All degree plan credit prerequisites being standardized curriculum in a given program a University has set up as basis of conferring a degree its Graduates in given discipline. It’s an international norm to do transcript evaluation. If it’s a History degree, transcripts must be ordered and show the credit hours earned and credited for that degree program per standard requirement. They will then recommend to the Judiciary on credential authenticity.
I have just received copy of the NCC constitution due for parliament. The new constitution being enacted by this seating Parliament is very clear on the constitutionally admissible degree the retaining officer who is the Chief Justice will take. It says the degree should be from a four year recognized University and not Matero or honorary but transcripted. Forensic experts will look at Sata’s degree and evaluate his four degree transcript credits hours.
This clause is for the good of the country to entrust the country to standards that beats any perjury.

THE DEGREE CLAUSE.
I read the calls for this clause with so much sadness. I thoght those guys we sent to NCC were wise enough to read what our country laws and chaters to which Zambia is a signatory say about being a zambian citizen.
Zambians should know that this clause is discriminatory. It promotes a certain class to lead the country.
Those calling for this clause should realise that all Zambians are equal citizens with equal rights to participate in every affair of the country. Zambia is not a firm where only the share holders have a final say. Zambia is a country and every zambian has a final say on who should rule the country what ever their qualifications are and thats why we go to vote and those that indend to be presidents are allowed to campain so that people can decide whether they will be able to be represented well.
To think about a degree as the main or part of the qualifications for presidency is shrewed and short sighted. We know that some of those supporting the clause are counting their chances of winning if that and that individual will also be allowed to stand. Like Sakwiba.
MMD should windup if they have runout of ideas. And I ask those who are in favour of this clause to think again. You don’t need a degree to know that the roads are impassable. No one needs a degree to see that hospitals have no medicine or doctors, or that there is poverty in this country. A goverment is not one brain that we should say if the president has a degree then we are better off.And a president only directs and leads a way to best serve the people through many ministry departments who should employee people according to the job they need to do. Its in these ministries we need these degrees because jobs are specific and set to acheive a set standard.
And there is no universal degree which includes everything one needs to know. Even if you have a degree in Law, you can’t be employed as an engineeror if you have a degree in economics, you can’t be employed as an accountant.Is retrogressive to think the way MMD is thinking. So lets be real to the fact of life and be conviced with our inner being. Lets ask for wisdom as well.
Being intelligent does not mean one is wise. Leadership is not measured on how many dinstinctions you got in maths or science. Lets also read some general definitions of a leader. It may help.
Mabenga, Rupiah, Chiluba,Shikapwasha or whoever is in MMD can’t imagine Sata being president. They have so much at steak and its one thought they can’t even think about honestly even if they were alone. So Zambians lets be honest.

We are told this clause was passed without much objection from the delegates, now as an accountant i’ve failed to understand how ZICA who as i understand have sent representatives to sit on NCC could not object to this clause because 90% of there members have only professional qualifications. In my view we wasted millions of kwacha on this s7upit constitutional process.
The person they were aiming to fix is miles ahead of them and will only disclose details of his degrees at the eleven hour leaving them crooks not enough time to scheme how to eliminate him.

(1) a first class degree in Woodwork specialising in Canoe construction (Pabwato business) from the renouned Katondo University, School of hard knocks, Lusaka, (
2) Obtained with distinction, a Master of philosoply in Vulger Arts from Chartenham University, school of dropouts, london.
We tried a graduate lawyer, he failed, we are experimenting with a graduate economist, he has lamentably failed. Worse than a bus conductor. We should now try a graduate in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. You cannot obtain these qualifications through distance learning, unfortunately.

If they think problems that Zambia has been facing can only be sorted out by a graduate leader, they must have their brains checked properly. Something is missing in them.
A good number of Zambians may want to have degrees, but circumstances cannot allow. Worse still our education policy is outdated, it cannot be matched with our neighbouring countries. A degree in Presidency will at list require degrees in 20 plus sector of national services of this country. You will also need a 10 years experience as president to apply for Presidency. The fact here is that the Office of the President has failed the MMD, Govt, and NCC. How could they fail to know that Sata was far ahead of them. Am suspecting the same to have assisted him. When doctors graduate they practice medicine. Graduate lawyers practice law. Graduate in engineering do the same.
Chibamba Kanyama is doing the same in economics. He is sharing his knowledge with all Zambians. His degree is working.
Now RBs degree where is it working? probably he should have got a degree in political science. He has never used it for the benefit of the nation. So why insist on ‘graduate clause if it is of little significance?
RB is a graduate but is underperforming. Chiluba in the first 5 years of presido did wonders which his friend has failed to do.

What intereting news for the PACT. This will keep the PACT strong until I hope the day before nomination day of a UPND-PF PACT presidential candidate by keeping PF supporters in the PACT. On that day when the true presidential candidate of the PACT will be known, it will be too late for the PF supporters to lose heart and vote for the MMD’s candidate in protest to the organisational skills of their party leader which may make PF go into oblivion while Mr Sata MC and his wife may enjoy a position from the possible PACT GRZ.

There’s one “university” with “campuses” in a number of buildings (some without elevators) all over cairo road, which does degree programs even postgraduate programs. it’s got a very low fail rate. it’s a recognized university spewing out hundreds of graduates each year. some of it’s graduates hold big positions and are very proud of their degrees.
