Voting for opposition in 2011would retard development – Kunda

Vice President George Kunda has warned that the country risks getting back to its economic doldrums if Zambians voted out the ruling MMD government from power in the 2011 tripartite elections.

Speaking to ZANIS,Mr. Kunda says the MMD government has worked hard to revive and sustain the economic gains the country has continued to make.
.
He says as a result of government’s good economic policies, the country has won itself confidence from the donor community.

The Vice President who was addressing a rally at Keembe Farm Training Institute in Chibombo yesterday said in the last few years, the donor communities have been releasing huge sums of money for developmental projects because of the confidence they have in the government of the day.

He said without good economic policies, the donors would have withdrawn their funding from government.

Mr. Kunda said for the past few years, the country has been recording a bumper harvest because of government’s support to the agricultural sector through programmes such as the Farmer Input Support Programme ((FISP).

He also disclosed that this year, government has released K5 billion each to three ministries namely Gender, Sport and Community Development to empower women, youths and vulnerable clubs to enable them engage in various economic activities.

Mr. Kunda added that government has also given the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services an additional K10 billion for Food Security Pack programmes for vulnerable people in rural areas across the country.

He explained that all these programmes have been put in place in order to reduce poverty levels in the country which he said mostly affects the women, youths and vulnerable people.

Mr. Kunda urged the people of Chibombo district to forms Clubs and access these funds.

He told the gathering that 40 percent of the CEEC has been reserved for women, youths and vulnerable people.

The Vice President further warned that if Zambians voted for the UPND /PF Pact in 2011, all such economic empowerment programmes will discontinue thereby subjecting the Zambians to abject poverty.

“You have seen what the MMD government has done because of our good economic policies set by this government. So I urge you not to experience with leadership with some of these who only come to plunder the economy,” he said.

Mr. Kunda said some of the people vying for presidency now have failed before when they were in government and so far they have nothing to offer to the Zambian people if voted into government.

Mr. Kunda also requested the people of Chibombo to reject UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema because he partnered with PF leader Michael Sata whom he described as a failure.

The Vice President was in Central Province to acquaint himself with the economic problems the province was faced with. He will also inspect developmental projects, hold public rallies and meet chiefs in the province.

Earlier, Central Province Minister Ackimson Banda said the people in the province are happy with the MMD government for developing the area.

Mr. Banda said MMD government has scored a lot of achievements in various key sectors of the economy.

Mr. Kunda is expected to return to Lusaka on today. He was accompanied by Provincial Minister Ackimson Banda, Science Minister and Mumbwa Central MP Dr. Brian Chituwo and MMD Deputy National Secretary Chembe Nyangu.

  1. Angel says:

PULEEEZ baka’amba ba Kunda, you are inflaming our passions with your careless words. What development are you talking about? The MMD has destroyed Zambia to such an extent that people are hopeless. It would be wise for George to keep quiet. His speech is bordering on criminal…

  2. Impikiso Shamwaume says:

Scared little boys! Muli pa bulendo bane!

  3. KAPATAMOYO says:

    Kunda,

Who told you that? Are you now crying for wamuyayaya and One Party State? Just sit easy and do your job for now. Time will tell.

Wasn’t it said that ba “Matipa” will bring total chaos and blood shed? Has this happened or not? If not, then just take it that the now opposition still stand a good chance to give you Kunda a better Country to retire in.

  4. Peace says:

sorry for Kunda, his statement leaves much be desired.just few months he be in rude shock.zambian want change, the writting is on the wall.

  5. lopa says:

Sorry Chimba even the more difficult how will they choose between HH and Sata? Yes for MPs the pact may field one candidate but these dont count for the presido which is the much bigger cake…just a thought but if its wrong to try and figure out how it will work then excuse the inquisitiveness

  6. The packet doesnt need to be registered as a party, they are simply going to support either candidate on which ever party he/she will register. voters do not know who is MMD, PACT or any one, they only know how to cast. so those of you trying hard to figure out what the packet is about, you will be shocked very soon when you start seeing mass exodus from MMD starting from Lusaka, Southern and western provinces. already there is fire in western province and eastern province here we come for the milanzi seat again

  7. kclyback says:

I Don’t know why in this country we can mount presure on some of these ideas to resign. Kunda and Rupia are wasting our time, please Zambians try to look what could happen if we had leaders who worked harder in order to improve our lives.

  8. kclyback says:

I have said it before, Kunda can’t conteplate leaving government.
He wants to be in government beyond 2011 so that he can continue plandeling and instructing cabinet to approve wrong things like paying NCC 5 Billion.

What a leader, has this guy got a heart?

  9. lopa says:

General Nkunda no one disputes what you are saying the problem is unless the ‘pact’ is registered as a party they will again split the vote because they can be no ballot paper with the symbol of both UPND and PF and known as pact ….so can someone tell the electorate who is who and who we need to back HH or MCS? Otherwise MMD will be back…

  10. Senior citizen,we take a leaf from the last presidential elections,PF’s votes and UPND’s put together was well over the MMD’s and mind you these were votes cast from border to border.Baba, you are the one in fantasy, kookoo land as it were. The numbers for the last elections are still there and will be there till christ comes.Instead of you hitting us with verbal flamboyancies, give us facts on why you think PF/UPND pact can’t win. It’s an undeniable fact that MMD came rain, come sunshine will be walloped in Southern,Lusaka,Luapula,Northern,Copperbelt,Central and north-western.

  11. The worst enemy to these kids’ personal happiness and progress is this business of wasting their precious time on things they have no clue about or ability to dictate. But they are needlessly waffling. Those who think MMD can lose to the so called PACT are dreaming because they are just disposed on pure fantasy and protruding ignorance of mature democracy.

An election victory comes from cast votes made by registered voters not trolls trolling aimlessly online. Kids here are evidently too distant from even basic Operations research responsibilities yet dreaming the loudest 24/7 as trolling cyber predictive electoral gurus. It’s like they find hope in the fantasy of burning in vanity due to lack of self worth for tangibility in life.

General elections spreads competing parties very thin round the country and the capacity is reduced to about 25%.A winning vote cummulatively from the 9 provinces, over 53 districts, 150 constituencies from border to border of Zambia.Winning elections is not a matter of trolling and insulting in tabloid editorials.

  12. Volcanologist says:

We need more and not just FSP. Moreover, the programme has misplaced goals as its is not addressing real needs of vulnerables.

  13. Zuze says:

Which development ba Kunda? Just campaign without letting us know your limited intellect! Voting for the opposition will be the best thing this nation can ever do… we need change and only the opposition can provide us with that. The MMD and people like Kunda have outlived their usefulness! Next year, its time for Zambians to show what they are worth! ZWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MMD!
