Mandela withdraws endorsement for Presidents’ club

Nelson Mandela has withdrawn permission for his name to be used to promote an exclusive club of 37 former African Presidents, known as the Africa Forum, amid allegations of fraud.

The Times reports that the forum was set up in 2006, with Mandela as its patron, and is chaired by former Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano. Leaders – including Kenneth Kaunda, who headed Zambia during nearly 30 years of one-party rule, and Namibian leader Sam Nujoma – are invited to join the forum ‘based on their democratic credentials’, such as a democratic ‘entry and exit’ to their presidency. But a small charter airline, Fastjet, has laid criminal charges with the SA police, alleging that the forum’s executive secretary, Dr John Tesha, lied to the firm to get it to fly five former Presidents to Liberia for the country’s independence day celebrations in 2008.

Loyalty is a virtue Nelson Mandela places at the very top of his list and under no circumstances could he continue to be associated with a club where honour, respect and integrity were treated so flippantly.

But is not Mandela who endorsed Zuma for presidency knowing that the guy is full of criminal attrocities? Dont fool yourself. Politicians are politicians. None have integrity not even lying Sata or crooked HH. Politicians are all opportunists looking to make a quick buck!

    That’s a new one!

One would think that all of us are “opportunists” looking for opportunities all the time.
