Police detain Mahtani’s lawyer
Finance bank chairman Rajan Mahtani
The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested Zaida Essa, the lawyer for Finance bank owner Rajan Mahtani.
The Watchdog has been reliably infomed that Miss Zaida Essa was arrested yesterday (Monday) evenning.
She was, according to sources, detained at Woodlands police station and it would seem spent the night there.
It was not yet clear by time of writing this article if she had been released on police bond.
Sources further hinted that the arrest of Mahtani’s lawyer is the first step toward the arresting of the main fish.’
DEC spokesperson John Nywali could not be reached for confirmation. But last week he confirmed that Essa was interviewed by DEC officer for over four hours.
Essa’s arrest is in connection to alleged fraudulent altering of shares in Zambezi Portland cement.
The faudulent changes in shares is said to be in favour of Rajan Mahtani.
The complaint to DEC was lodged by Odys Mandenakis and Antonio Ventriglias.

I commend what DEC are doing. But I want to urge them to extend this to Mazabuka, I hear there is another untouchable family who have been a niusance to Zambians because the government machinery has been manipulated. This has been going on for over 40 years. They were best friends with KK and other senior government officials.
What is worrying is that they at the same time hold very senior positions in the police service, a strategy to have access to vital information on which to act should need arise.
Last week Mazabuka Business Association hinted to say a Senior manager at Zambia Sugar has been threatened by powerful businessmen for promoting small scale Zambian business men. Theses are the same culprits, they own Mazabuka, they are the president of Mazabuka, they can do anything to anybody or institution if you are targeted. They hold entire Mazabuka at ransom. Their workers are treated like slaves. Workers are insulted and shouted at will in the presence of their clients. In short they have no respect for a Zambian because they have bought government machinery.

A few days ago I had a heated debate with DOG who insisted that Zamtel should be privatised because Zambians were incapable of running their own affairs.

The Pakistani’s led by Barkat Ali working for Finance Bank, and are left overs from BCCI Bank of Credit and Commerce International, a bank which was closed down world wide by regulators for money laundering etc etc. Barkat Ali and other foreigners should all be taken in for questioning and immediately deported. BOZ should also immediately take over running of Finance Bank as permitted under the Laws of Zambia.

1. Why has Manthani remained the wamuyaya Finance bank chairman for more than 21 years? Does the Bank of Zambia, observe and enforce the corporate governance strategy at this bank?
2. Why has Finance bank maintained all the board members i.e. Chamunda, william Nyirenda, Tom Mtine, Steven Malama, Mrs. Clevan, Mrs Shurtlz (sister to Manthani), etc, etc for more than 21 years. Does the Bank of Zambia, observe and enforce the corporate governance strategy at this bank?
3. Why has the government of the republic of Zambia allowed all the Indians and Pakistanis consecutively renewed their work permits without looking at the local qualified labour? It is evident from the random research sampling done so far that personnel at immigration offices have benefited much from these transactions at Finance bank when granting work permits to these individuals at the instructions of Manthani and the use of the ‘sick NOEL NKHOMA’
4. Finance bank is the only institution in this country which has more than 13 expatrites i.e. D. King (MD), Barkat Ali (DMD), A. Geerverheze (Exec Dir- Finance), I.Ali (Exec Dir – Credit), Asad (Dir -Audit), P. Lunn (Dir- Special Projects), S. Ghazi (Dir- IT), M.Khan (Ass Dir -Treasury), Mrs. Pathak (Dir Facilities) surely even facilities which could easily be handled by a junior local personnel has to be given to an Indian, why? and another Pakiatan who hides at 5 th floor (Manthani office) and drive FBZ 16. It is believed this is the gentleman who has actually hiden the papers of Zambezi portland cement ltd. 5. Why has Manthani being loosely allowed to steal from more than 550 finance bank employees their hard earned pension funds which the bank had from 1988 – 1999 (non-contributely pension funds) before the contributable pension fund was introduced in 1999?
6. Why has the Zambian government allowed Mathani to manipulate most of the companies that innocently borrow funds fron finance bank NOT manthani as an individual taken over the running of those companies if for some reasons they defunct.
7. Why is it that Finance bank is the poorest paying (lowest salaries) and not comparable conditions of service to other banks in the country?

Thank you Dog for clarifying. Online blogs always attract the immature who want to blame all their shortcomings on Indians. That is the tragedy of Africa but happens in UK, USA, now also in South Africa and many other countries. If it were not Indians it would be another minority. But if you read what many of the writers say you should appreciate they many defend the Indians. Apart from the 25% shares that belong to Credit suisse, the rest are either Mahthani’s relatives or friends in Canada, Virgin Islands and the Shultz’s in Zambia. This is simply to comply with the Bank laws that you have quoted, however ZW and everyone else knows who owns that Bank, it’s Mahtani because he controls the vast majority of the shareholders of the bank.

Why mention the name of Odys Mandenakis when he has no complaint whatsoever? Are you short of cases DEC or are you framing one? Is your Kelvin Sampa the mastermind? Mahtani found and controls Finance bank. So he is the owner. I think the real test of ownership is control.
ZWD please Mahtani is not the OWNER of Finance bank. He is one of the shareholders. He holds 25% of the banks shares.! Zambian banking law does not allow any one single individual to have more than 25% of a bank’s shares. The only bank which was given this exemption is ZANACO when Rabobank was allowed to acquire 49% of the bank’s shares. Rabobank it must be noted however that is not even an individual but an institution with many shareholders! Of course it would be correct to refer to Mahtani as FOUNDER of Finance Bank. However he was forced by the new Zambian banking law to dilute his share holding. 25% each went to Credit Swiss, Lolita Capital partners and the Schulz family of Ndola. Mahtani retained the remainder.
