DStv considering porn package
MultiChoice is considering broadcasting pornography and the possibility of creating new sex channels on DStv’s satellite pay-TV service.
“MultiChoice has been inundated with requests for adult content on DStv over the past few months,” Jackie Rakitla, general manager of corporate affairs at MultiChoice, told Die Burger on Tuesday.
“At this stage we’re merely doing research to determine the extent of interest in adult content, and we’re looking at the feasibility of implementing such a service.”
MultiChoice is using e-mails for market research purposes to test the interest in various broadcasting options, such as the broadcasting of “mixed pornography” (hardcore porn between 21:00 and 05:00 and soft porn between 05:00 and 21:00), hardcore porn 24 hours per day, or soft porn 24 hours per day on DStv.
Brand image
Respondents are also asked what they think the impact would be on the brand image of MultiChoice and DStv.
“No decision has been made yet,” said Rakitla. “We’ll make a final decision once we’ve determined the level of interest and the feasibility of such a service.”
MultiChoice declined to answer the question as to what the impact of such a decision would have on the broadcaster’s image.

The free e.tv broadcasting service, which recently stopped broadcasting late night erotica on Fridays and Saturdays, said on Tuesday this was done because “e.tv is constantly revising programme content”.
“We’ve been providing late night erotic content over weekends for quite some time now, and we’ve replaced this with ordinary films and TV series which our viewers enjoy,” said e.tv spokesperson Vasili Vass.
Regarding industry rumours that e.tv’s e.Sat, which currently supplies DStv with the eNews Channel, is working on the possibility of providing porn channels for MultiChoice, Vass said “e.tv will not comment on this matter”.
Multichoice, controlled from South Africa, is the main provider of DSTV in Zambia.

The earlier it is introduced the better. People should get it out of their minds that they can control what people see with the advances in modern technology. Soon there will be mushrooming or free-to-air decoders that enable you see all sorts of things directly from satelites. This is already happening in a number of African countries. The best approach is to prepare people for the future not to bury your heads in the sand. Educated people make informed decisions. Teach the people well. Let Zambians be taught by domain experts, then they’ll be taught the truth.

Whether you watch porn or not is a personal matter. You can block the channel on your TV if you don’t want people to watch it there. I don’t think morality is so big in Zed – what with all the lodges and guest houses there that people use to go and ‘rest’ for an hour or so. The lodges I did not consider to be what the are until you opened my eyes. Read my post again it states our moral fibre was at the least more intact that the west you exactly what I mean. If the porn Channel will be subscriber based then there is no problem with that because if i dont want it i simply dont subscribe. The fact of the matter is that a lot of people in homes and colleges are watching porn and because of prohibition in Zambia many Porn DVD sellers have gone underground making the the bussiness lucrative and unregulated. People are not even discussing it because its under ground. It is only when things are brought into the open forum that they can be discussed and regulated. This mentalitity of prohibiting everything is what brings corruption in the country.

There is a lot of free porn available on the Internet at the moment with greater variety than what DSTV can provide. Therefore to stop DSTV will just be another political move. I have watched FREE porn on the internet before and can be addictive if not careful(am being honest) but i think God gave each one of us a sense of reasoning and freedom of choice. If you don’t like porn don’t subscribe for it and you won’t be able to watch . Democracy is sweet & viewers who have subscribed to private tv stations have the right to watch what they want.I don’t think Mulitichoice will be given permission to air such movies though because Zambia is not a full democracy therefore i see this as a waste of time on the part of multichoice unless the viewers bring about a campaign to get their freedom to watch what they like as they are the ones paying privately & that means changing a couple of laws by the govt.

I am based in the U.K and we have porn magazines in most shops and hundreds of porn channels you have to subscribe to for a night,week,month or even a year but it is up to the subscriber to pay and watch or ignore the porn channels,that is what freedom is all about,having so many choices according to individual needs as long as it does not offend or injure others.
