Sata sues Times of Zambia
PATRIOTIC Front (PF) president Micheal Sata has sued the Times of Zambia for libel.
Mr Sata has also applied for an interim injunction to restrain the newspaper and its servants or agents from publishing any defamatory words concerning him.
Mr Sata’s lawyers from Ituna Partners have also filed a certificate of urgency claiming that the matter was of extreme urgency and required expeditious determination as the Times of Zambia had allegedly continued to write, publish and print defamatory articles concerning Mr Sata.
In an affidavit in support of an interim injunction, Mr Sata stated the Times of Zambia published articles concerning him in the editions of February 22, 23, 24 and 25 this year.
He indicated that the articles titled some ‘Sata leads polygamous life’, ‘Forget about presidency’, Sata told, ‘Sata is not credible’- Mumbi, Chimumbwa.
He stated that the articles were allegedly defamatory.
“The words in the said articles in their ordinary and natural meaning meant and were understood to mean that I am not a law abiding citizen, I have a criminal record, I am not a sincere Christian, I do not abide by the rules and teachings of the Catholic Church, and I am a dishonest person with no integrity,” Mr Sata claimed.
Mr Sata said he was a staunch Christian in the Catholic Church which did not allow people leading polygamous or polyandrous lives to receive Holy Eucharist.
That he was a politician and alleged repetition of false imputation of a criminal character would only lower his estimation in the minds of voters.
He stated that unless the defendant was restrained by law of a court order from repeating the publication of defamatory matters, he was likely to suffer irreparable injury as his political ambitions and standing in the Catholic Church could not be atoned for by damages.
Mr Sata was claiming for aggravated or exemplary damages, an injunction restraining the defendant from further writing, printing or circulating or otherwise publishing of the plaintiff the said or any similar libel.
High Court judge handling the matter, Evans Hamaundu has set March 15 as the hearing date.

This is hypocrisy of the highest order! Mr Sata your paper and Mmembe can write anything against anyone apart from yourself.
If The Times of Zambia question your morality what is wrong with that. You are aspiring for high office and the voters have a right to know what kind of character you are. Certainly if you cannot control your sexual appetite the voters need to know – what else can you not control?
DO NOT USE your money to silence genuine election questions. How many people Mr Sata have you insulted?
What is sad is that some PF cadres cannot see sense in simple things like this.
That is why Zambia has always made mistakes because when it really matters to ask the difficult questions, no one wants to know.

When we read the state run media, what they write about anyone along opposition is never considered. Infact ba Sata dont worry but go ahead and suck the hell out of the state papers. when I read the Post I dont need to read the daily mail but consider the opposite as the content. I pity the editors
Here is a foretaste of what would happen if this man became President. Can you imagine if he had been in RB’s shoes? By now, there would be no Post Newspaper and its editors would have been jailed for treason. Let the nation be warned, that if he can do this in courts which he does not control, I shudder to think what would be if he was President!

Serpet Cobra Sata enjoys being paraded in courts. For a longtime now, Serpet Cobra Satan has featured in all the court hierachy one can know of in this land being Traditional, local, Magistrate, High and Supreme Courts for various offences as a complainant or an accused. To me its an indication of one thing, “Serpet Cobra Satan is a man of wrong standing in society and not to be let loose to govern Zambia”.
With allegations on him from his close friends, Serpet Cobra Satan must sit down and reflect whether his morally upright or not because he is making a fool of himself by rushing to court were the same questions and stories about him will need answers for the public to know. Am happy his not my relation cos Serpet Cobra Satan is an embrassment.
Politics in our country seem to have lost direction and a sense of maturity,because when we look at the way our leaders are hauling insults at each other,one wonders how they will govern and solve issues obtaining in our country in the near future and were will be 10years from now,if this culture of insulting one another continues at the expense of national development.
in such a case do they have to call witnesses, i.e. the baby mama, priest and heart patient of the year award winner
I thought he had instructed his lawyers to sue Chiluba for asking questions about his extra marital affairs..I must read wrong or heard wrong..Is it the headings he is suing for or the fact that he has been married divorced and remarried never mind that he had Christine Kaseba as a wabaside before he ‘married’ and that he has had a sexual relationship with Petronela who has borne him two children?
This is libel? Fair comment must surely fall somewhere here…any way good luck with the suit…
