Zambians should fight for their democratic rights-SACCORD

Southern Africa Centre for Constructive Resolution and Disputes (SACCORD) Executive Director, Lee Habasonda has advised Zambians to fight for their democratic rights as Government has failed to do so.
Speaking to hot fm, Habasonda said his organization will continue to do its work as it has got an injunction from the courts.
He said Government is scared of Non-Governmental Organizations(NGOs) as they are not in support of the crooked ways of the Government.
Meanwhile, Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) President Rueben Lifuka appealed to the Government to stop manipulating NGOs adding that no amount of threats will stop them from carrying out their work.
Speaking also in the same interview, Anti –Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) Executive Director, Bonnie Tembo said Government should desist from threatening NGOs and instead tell the nation how the money meant for the late President Levy Mwanawasa was used.

let them tell us how more K40bn was used when LPM died…

  2. Saccord is a stark reminder of the abuse that NGO,s are now reknown for. From it,s inception it has been a Habasonde organisation.Someone correct me but i would have thought the participants in thses NGO,s would be pure volounteers.Am sure this is not the case with this NGO.Am sure Habasonde relies on this NGO for his daily sustenance. And think of the
name does this NGO have the mandate of Southern Africa

  3. BEN says:

TIZ a subsidiary of Post newspapers has really gone to the hyenas or is it the other way round…these chaps are DEAD QUITE on PF councils’ chewing of GRZ funds but are always NUMBER 1 to support any anti GRZ topic or desperate chaps. Look you guys the organisation you represent (by name only) is well respected world wide and i beg you to formally resign and join your sponsor mmembe and let people who are non partisan to take over….i also await the LONG OVERDUE position of TIZ on Sata’s unexplained US$27,000 .
I know you need to get permission from Bwinjimfumu Road to comment on this one…
    HIS MASTER’S VOICE..

  4. Volcanologist says:

SACCORD director Lee Habasonde must be bitter of the High court ruling and he is asking Zambians to help him fight for democratic rights. Democracy is a bitter pill and costly at the same time. Lee has not disclosed the wrong he committed to warrant the harsh judgement. I respect the works of NGOs but it should not be at the expense of riduculing your own country to attract funding. The observation have noticed is that NGOs would like government to be transparent and accountable to them and not vise versa. Then i ask myself, where is good governance, transparency and accountability if it does select one and not all? If Zambia is for us all, let us be transparent and accountable to each other whether in Government or NGO cause funds received are of public interest.
For Lee, i urge you to respect the law as an abiding citizen and use the law to protect SACCORD.

  5. BEN says:

SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST…..Lee the very platform you are using to advertise your foolishness is a testimony of democracy.
Dont bring in issues that have nothing to do with what has led to your fate.

  6. Positivist pa zed says:

Abena George, you are being too emotional. Not all NGO’s are thieves, just like not all politicians are thieves. Gondwe in mant situations aGovernment are not required to give explanations on certain decision. Its an international trend. It is assumed that Government is working on national interest, especially when it comes to matters of peace and security. However in this case Shikapwasha gave a reason that I did not find convincing

  7. Gondwe says:

Those of you who support govt, why do you think your govt has failed to give the reasons? stop the hypocrisy. we have a dirty regime in power.

  8. monalisasyndrome says:

‘Without transparency and accountability, we allow greed to impoverish our nation as we sink in despair and helplessness. With transparency and accountability, we renew our sense of decency and dignity, hope and self-determination.’(transparency-accountability.org).

  9. japhet says:

that’s what happens when you became political agents of the opposition and a few selfish individuals.SACCORD (idiotic hypocrites) is gone, TIZ is next, then Goodwell Lungu!! Cant wait!!

  10. Mandingo says:

there’s some wrong assumption that when one forms or joins an ngo then they have the best interests of people at heart. information is the key to everything, until we know full details of this case we can only make assumptions

  11. Abena George says:

Don’t bring Zambians into your battles. If don’t follow the laws of the land you deserve to be disbanded.

    You thieves!

  12. Moomba Maimbo says:

We dont need NGO’s which have a hidden political agenda. If SACCORD cant embrace the peace we enjoy in Zambia, then they must be dissbanded.

  13. SURE SURE says:

the other NGOS should read between the lines!
