Candidates shouldn’t be imposed voters-AVAP

Anti-Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) has appealed to political parties not to impose candidates on the electorate in the Milanzi and Mufumbwe by elections.

And the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set 29th April 2010 as the date for the Milanzi parliamentary by-election and local government by-elections in eight council wards.

The Milanzi parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of area Member of Parliament Rueben Chisanga Banda last month.

Speaking in an intwerview in Lusaka,AVAP Executive Director, Bonnie Tembo said political parties should allow the locals to choose who they want to represent them in parliament.

Tembo said past events have shown the nation that imposture of candidates on the electorate is detrimental.

The AVAP Executive Director further warned aspirants of the by elections who would want to use bribes to desist from doing so as they would be exposed by his organization

#MILANZI BY-ELECTION, Your story is sad to say the least, but if truely thats what Mrs Muzyeche is doing,is,t ths a highest order of betrayal to her Party? Where are thd morals of our Political leaders? UPND should deal with ths admnstrative rapse if its not true. But if its true then am afraid even the Presidence wll dribbled out of UPND,s HANDS,and ths should worry Zambians who are itching for REAL CHANGE whch can only be Found in HH. Imagne selling of Milanzi? UPND leaders should bear responsibility of what ever happens in Milanzi and i can assure you,Should PF adopt a candidate in MILANZI the PACT will loose because PF,s perfomance has been very poor. UPND leadership should wake up. But as for me,should this go on am AFRAID i will have to rethink my POLITICAL CAREER, I CAN NOT STOMACH HAVING A LEADERSHIP SAROUNDING THE PARTY PRESIDENT IS NOT HONEST. But AGAIN if its a PARTY POSITION then it should,t have been done in that MANNER,SOME ONE SHOULD HAVE GONE TO MILANZI TO HAVE A MEETING WITH PARTY OFFICIALS AND EXPLAIN TO THEM THE NEW POSITION OF THE PARTY.

  2. UPND VICE TREASURER HAS SOLD, MILANZI SEAT TO PF. This is a worst you would expect from a growing Party like UPND. Why should the PARTY in which Zambians have put there TRUST have IMORAL,CORUPT and MORALY BANKRUPT LEADERS TO MAKE DECISIONS ON BEHALF OF THE PARTY? SHE INSTRUCT UPND STRUCTURES TO WORK WTH PF LEADERS FROM LUSAKA BECAUSE PF DOES,T HAVE STRUCTURE A KATETE AND MILANZI DISTRICT AND CONSTITUENCY RESPECTIVELY.PF IS NOW BANKING ON A UPND CANDIDATE WHO IS SECOND POPULAR FROM A WOMAN WHO IS THE BEST LIKING OF THE LOCALS AND THE CHIEFS. HH now has to deal with the CONFUSION CAUSED BY A MRS MUZYECHE.THE PROVINCE,DISTRICT AND CONSTITUENCY HAS SINCE THREANED TO DEFFECT TO MMD WITH THERE PREFERED CANDIDATE OR PUT AN INDIPENDENT. MRS MUZYECHE IS SAID TO HAVE RECEIVED SOME MONEY FROM BOTH PF AND A MR MUSA BANDA ONE OF UPND,s ASPIRANTS. There is TOTAL CONFUSION IN MILANZI AS PF TRIES TO LOOK FOR UPND OFFICIALS WHO HAVE SINCE BOYCOTED THE MUZYECHE TRICKS.ACTUALY A PF EASTERN PROVINCE OFFICIAL HAS CONFESED THAT ITS DIFFCULT FOR PF BECOZ IT HAS NO GROUND SUPORT IN MILANZI. “WE ARE CAUGHT UN AWARE AS PF,WE THOUGHT UPND BEING THE STRONGER WILL PUT A CANDIDATE,UNTILL MRS MUZYECHE STARTED HAVING MEETINGS WITH OUR SENIOR PARTY OFFICIALS,IN SHORT WE ARE NOT READY FOR THE TASK BECOZ WE VE TO RELY ON UPND and HH due to our President,s(SATA) LITTLE ENFLUENCE in KATETE”..REFERENCE. FROM UPND EASTN PROV CHAIRMAN MR NTOLE,CO-ODINATOR MR CHUZU,PF CHAIRMAN MR SOLOMON MBUZI and UPND MILANZI CHAIRMAN MR MATHIAS BANDA FOR DETAILS.

Good point ‘freeman on earth’. These so called NGO’s always think they are the ones who know what ‘the people’ want. Like you have rightly stated no party goes into an election to lose. Every party fields the ‘best’ candidate it feels will deliver and not necessarily a local resident.

  4. freeman on earth says:

You are right ba Bonnie Temboe but you are missing a point here. No political Party wants to lose elections and it is for this reason that they pick people they best think can win. So I dont know what you mean by imposing on the elctorate? Do you have a party in mind that has been losing and you feel its because they have been imposing candidates.? What criteria can one use to tell that this candidate is not imposed? A mini referendum? Heresay? Or getting guidance from people like you who claim to know what the people want? Its easy to say what you are saying but extremely difficult to put it into practice. Which leader you put forward, there shall alwys be people that support him and others that do no. The mere fact that people complain does not mean that a candidate has been imposed on them.
