Youths caution Banda

UPND/PF pact youths have cautioned Lusaka Province MMD Chairman, William Banda to desist from intimidating people and challenged President Rupiah Banda to deal with him accordingly.
Speaking in Lusaka UPND youth chairman, Eric Chanda Banda should stop intimidating people as he is casing anarchy.
Chanda said warned that if Banda continues his disparaging remarks, the youths will declare Lusaka a no go area for him and put him in the political archives were he belongs.
He further challenged Banda, who thinks he is perfect and embarrassing others, to tell the nation why he was deported to Malawi by Former President ,Frederick Chiluba.

The more the PACT talk of William Banda the more William becomes a hero. Don’t make William a hero but concentrate on talking to Zambian on issues you want to do beyond 2010.
William Banda alelafwa nwushi, foolish argument by the PACT cos William is not important.

All thugs and crooks must be demonised and Banda requires the same for his irrational behaviour.

William Tekere Banda is clearly making the Pact Agitated. When Sata controlled the bus stations and markets in lusaka, LPM could not drive through cairo rd. The entire MMD machinery failed to counter this until The director intelligence advised the president to bring the last gorvernor of Lundazi and former UNIP national youth chairman william Tekere Back from exile. He was appointed political adviser at state house overseeing Lusaka, He established camp in Matero and in no time there was a violent clash between MMD and the once strong PF cadres, the post captured william Banda slapping a PF youth leader who had attempted to stone his vehicle that had packed where Sata was addressing people. The following week william assembled a team that went to City market where PF cadres were raising Cabbages as a mock to LPM. soon he recaptured the markets and buss stations for the MMD. During the chiluba trial he offerd street protection to FTJ against the PF sponsored cadres, During the Dora siliya tribunal he offered protection to Dora against the Post and PF sponsored cadres. From the day William offered his services to the MMD the once violent PF cadres have cried faul and taken william to court uncountable times with last one being harringtone. The question is do you expect unrully PF cadrs attacking innocent people in the name of Pabwato uncountered?

I have followed this political theatre in Lusaka with laughter. No doubt the opposition chaps are distressed and mesmerized leaving them in defense overdrive when juxtaposed with MMD under Chairman William Banda in Lusaka constituency. I did forewarn to cut on insults and intelligently counter the challenge that had befallen them at hand in account of Chairman William Banda. This is a seasoned savvy grassroot political magnet that has grown in the Lusaka political trenches.
There is no Zambian politician in contemporary politics who understands and systematically connects better with the grassroot politics like Chairman Banda in Lusaka today. Few months on, there it is! WB has obliterated the opposition in Lusaka constituency within month with much easy.

Jean kapata PF is a natural failure for the people of Mandevu, Mazyopa, Kabanana site and service, Chaisa, Chipata and Chazanga compounds. She is a stranger that has lamentably failed to fit in that vast and complicated constituency. From nursing she has had no connection with voters and failed on meeting their basic social needs other than issuing illegal plots.

But WB armed with experience, natural connectedness and demographic biases has put Kapata and PF on a live wire in futile defense. What will PF and kapata tell those people of mazyopa what value her 5 years tenure has done for them? Even the noise and smear from Bangladesh-Zambia Given Lubinda who himself has failed Kabwata or indeed Winter Kabimba who has only gained insulting experience in politics compounded, the PF game is over.

All these rubble rousers are no match to Chairman William Banda in grassroot politics. The sooner the opposition realized that they are in unchartered waters in Lusaka and devised smart countervailing strategies than useless threat and running for smear in the post Tabloid the better.

UPND may have a chunk in Chawama, John Howard, Kuomboka and maybe john Lang voting blocks due to HH’s tribal politics and the demographic imbalance in those spots, but getting Lusaka blindly rallying behind them is a myth.

Now in confusion there is ignoramus Winter Kabimba voluntarily exposing his illiteracy. With his “Anti-Christ” rhetoric of scourging Zambia he is citing the Burma…Niger…Equatorial Guinea, in Iran under the Shar hegemony that constitutes no parallel to constitutional democratic Zambia that has a tradition of hold open elections every five years and the military have no role in politics. Ignorance, immaturity, shame and distress have overtaken PF Kaponyas.

The problem with the Pact is they have no strategies,The last Governor of Lundazi and last UNIP national youth leader is not Challenging HH or Sata. can you guys keep your eyes on the Ball. The MMD machinery is simply distracting you with william and if you thot RB was dull you got to think again and ask why he beat you in the last election

  • Senior Citizen wrote on 15 April, 2010, 10:19

The opposition has spent too much time on unhelpful insults instead of core issues which people expect them championing as democratic watchdogs. As a result, Zambian opposition especially the so call fragile pact is no different to the irrelevant Botswana opposition parties.

Someone tell me the parallel of democratic Zambia to Hegemonic, militarism and theocracy juntaism of Burma…Niger…Captain Camara’s Equatorial Guinea, Iran under the Shar hegemony. What constitutes a parallel to constitutional Zambia which Kabimba and his Anti-Christ barbarious rhetoric of scourging Zambia is citing.

Violence never get anyone anyway it gives a few black eyes, headache, bodily harm and in its fatality death…if Chanda declares Lusaka a ‘no go area’ for this Banda whatever that means what will he do when he WB appears in the area? Do we need this nonsense when people are wading through pools of water to get to their homes? When clean drinking water is a myth to most people when a flushing toilet is not used by all in the 21st century.

Issuing physical threats to each other no matter how distastful we might find each other is a no no and has no place in our society or at least whats left of it

MRK – Corruption And Swindle At ZCCM-IH

Even though ZCCM-IH has significant share holdings in foreign mining company’s local mining operations, it is either not receiving, or worse receiving but not paying out dividends to it’s shareholders.

We already know that in an industry that officially makes over $2.5 billion in profits, the entire take for the Zambian revenuers for 2010 is estimated at a laughable $50 million.

Not content with swindling the Zambian taxpayers, the foreign mining companies also swindle their shareholders out of their legally obligated dividend payments.

Now of course, how much dividend are they going to pay of they are already evading taxes on a massive scale? The one seems to follow the other. If they were honest in their dividend payments (usually around 50% of profits), they would have to own up to how much profit they actually made. Which would show how much taxes they have been evading.

Their financial records are less than transparant and open. The interim financial report from 2006, published in 2008 is the most recent, and it doesn’t even open properly.

ZCCM-IH has not paid out any dividends, which is fraud. Either they are being defrauded by the mining companies and those companies are not paying ZCCM-IH dividends, or the directors and managers are keeping the dividends themselves.

Either way, the people of Zambia and in this case, the shareholders of ZCCM-IH are being defrauded out of their rightful money. And as ZCCM-IH is 86.6% owned by the government, the government is complicit in this fraud.

And this is interesting – the Finance Minister, Situmbeko Mosokotwane, is a director of ZCCM-IH. So he should know EXACTLY what is going on with this company and Zambia’s money.

Also interesting – ZCCM-IH is listed Eurenext in Paris, the London Stock Exchange and the Lusaka Stock Exchange. I wonder if embezzling dividends is actually illegal for companies listed at any of those exchanges.

According to MBENDI.CO.ZA, ZCCM-IH has the following share holding:
Konkola Copper Mines Plc – Chingola, Zambia (20.6%)
Copperbelt Energy Corporation – Kitwe, Zambia (20%)
Kansanshi Mining Plc – Zambia (20%)
Chibuluma Mines Plc Zambia – Zambia (15%)
Luanshya Copper Mines Plc – Zambia (15%)
Chambishi Metals Plc – Zambia (10%)
Mopani Copper Mines Plc – Kitwe, Zambia (10%)

Shareholder: Government of Zambia – Zambia (86.6%)

    Directors and shareholders are:
    Chairperson (Non-Exec.): Mr GK Chibuye
    Director: Dr DH Kalyalya
    Director: Mr GP Mukala
    Director: Dr S Musokotwane (Situmbeko)

The names of the current non-executive directors as indicated below:
    Mr A. J. Lungu – Non-Executive Chairman
Mr L. Ndalamei (Secretary to the Treasury)
Dr D. H. Kalyalya (Bank of Zambia deputy governor for Operations)
Dr G. M. Beene (mines ministry permanent secretary)
    Dr S. M. Bwalya
    Mr P. Mumba
Mr O. B. Munyenyembe (Mineworkers Union of Zambia (MUZ) secretary general)

I never knew that Godfrey (or is it Godwin) Beene was not only MP for Itehzi Tehzi, and head of the Parliamentary Estimates Committee, but that he is also Mines Ministry Permanent Secretary.

So as head of the Parliamentary Estimates Committee, he sent Secretary to the Treasury James Mulungushi packing because there was something he did not like about the Windfall Tax – which would have cost the mines money.

    Hmmm…

This is what I remember that incident from, but I could not put it into context at the time:

    (TIMES) Treasury officials sent packing

    Treasury officials sent packing
    By Times Reporter

THE parliamentary estimates committee yesterday sent back the team led by acting Secretary to the Treasury James Mulungushi because they did not present satisfactory explanations on the new mining tax regime. Dr Mulungushi was in the company of Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Commissioner General and other senior members of staff from the Ministry of Finance and National Planning.

Dr Mulungushi and his team were asked to prepare a fresh report that would satisfy the committee chaired by Itezhi Tezhi MP Godfrey Beene, and present it by tomorrow. Mr Beene described the report by Dr Mulungushi as unsatisfactory and ordered him to prepare a fresh one, which should be presented before the committee by tomorrow.

Mr Beene told Dr Mulungushi that the committee members were not satisfied because the report left out key details of the proposed windfall tax on copper mines.

Dr Mulungushi had also said that Government plans to open a special account at the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) to keep the excess revenue from the mines.

Dr Mulungushi further said that Government has set up a committee to plan on how the projected revenue of US$415 million would be raised under the new tax regime.

This prompted the committee to question why the projected revenue of US$415 million was not included in the national budget. The committee argued that it is only parliament that has the authority to approve any expenditure and not the executive.

“As a committee, we are looking at the legal position on new mining tax and the position on the setting aside of the excess revenue and why is this money not included in the budget. We are disappointed because you have failed to give us the legal position on these important matters,” Mr Beene said.

I think things start to fall into place. The Mines have a reprentative among the board of directors at ZCCM-IH.

  • By the Way wrote on 15 April, 2010, 13:39

Mr Chapanswa, you have your facts wrong on the two Beenes. One is an eminently qualified Engineer with a PHD from a university in the UK. He worked for the mines with an impeccable record. The other is a respectable MP I think from Mumbwa. Please do not throw mud at these respectable people. Just setting the record straight.

I just saw the tribal statement by Senior Citizen on UPND president and 2011 presidential candidate HH but I will concentrate on “UPND/PF pact youths have cautioned Lusaka Province MMD Chairman, William Banda to desist from intimidating people and challenged President Rupiah Banda to deal with him accordingly…Speaking in Lusaka UPND youth chairman, Eric Chanda” [...] Banda should stop intimidating people as he is casing anarchy“.

Clearly, the UPND is a Nationally represented political party as evidenced by the name of the UPND youth chairman, Eric Chanda. I therefore wonder why a senior citize can fail to appreciate the truth just because he is working with tribalists from Eartern Zambia who try to paint president HH and the mighty UPND as tribal in trying hard to cover themselves of the evil tribalism they practice in MMD and GRZ appointments.

I hope this tribalism being perpetuated by the MMD ladership will be rejected by all well-meaning Zambians who are for real unity so that these separatists in MMD can be sent home, dust bins where they can practice the terrible tribalism which they using to divide the Nation while claiming that they are a uniting factor, after 2011 elections.

I may soon start compiling names of all Eartern Province people that have been appointed to GRZ since Mr President RB Banda bcame Zambian President and hopefully produce a comparative analysis with regard to non-Easterner appointed people.

Have a blessed day all and let us fight this tribalism by the MMD — even by voting them out of power in the forthcoming tripartite elections.

Nice piece of staff, I definitely need time to digest it.

But word of correction, Dr. Beene at the Ministry of Mines and Minerals is not MP, the two people are different. This Doc at Ministry of Mines is a former Manager at KCM, Chingola Mine.

William Banda is a kind of anarchist. He should not be allowed to bring chaos to the country with his unruly behaviour. He is behaving like a UNIP vigilante, and I have no doubt about his past, whose sole responsibility was to terrorise innocent citizens for political expediency. It never worked with UNIP. It shall not work this time either.
