Rupiah is driving Zambia to the brink of civil war – Nawakwi

FDD president Edith Nawakwi has observed that President Rupiah Banda is driving the country to the brink of civil war because he has allowed a “useless policeman” to abuse his office.

Commenting on the violence that characterised the campaigns in the Mufumbwe parliamentary by-election, Nawakwi said President Banda was squarely to blame for the violence.

“Now we are reaching a level where truly if the President does not take action not only against the perpetrator in the police service, one Inspector General of Police Francis Kabonde who is clearly a perpetrator of violence and not only Kabonde but his party cadres, Chris Chalwe, if he does not take action, he is driving this country to a brink of civil war,” Nawakwi said.

“Only President Rupiah Banda will be answerable to the people of Zambia and God for this blood that is starting to drip. It does not take an outsider, it shouldn’t take the international community to come to Zambia and tell us that peace and tranquility is as valuable as air.”

Nawakwi said Kabonde was the last person any reasonable leader would want to have by their side.
She said Kabonde’s main agenda was economic survival and he was in office only to serve his master’s wish.

However, Nawakwi said the Zambian taxpayers who were responsible for paying Kabonde’s salary did not deserve “this incompetence.”

  2. Awe CHI-Nawakwi. Concentrate on building your own party in stead of alarming the nation! So who is thinking about bringing soldiers to fight the government, is it yourself? Nawakwi is a political failure, Full Stop. There is no civil war here. Chiluba shot Kaunda and detained hime over Christmas, he killed Tembo and Penza. No civil war happened! Now where will the war come from this time? Is it because it is Banda who is ruling. Don’t try anything stupid you will just end up at Mukobeko in Kabwe and die alone. We don’t want politicians to start stoking the fire and inciting violence by using careless language. And when you look at all of them, they are all frustrated political failures who will end up retiring in opposition, like some of them are just about to. My sense is that the future President of Zambia hasn’t even arrived on the scene yet. It will NOT be the aging Sata, nor the clueless dozzy flatliner Hakainde HH, nor this current nyama-soya, nor the frustrated Nawakwi. Somebody will just land and sensationalise the country, galvanise everybody and take over from these losers!!

  3. Nawakwi might have done wrong in the past, but this time she is right on President RB Banda’s incompetence.

Let all loving Zambians denounce the insutls coming from the big man and demand good developmental politicking.

    Have a blessed day all.

  4. Nawakwi was part and parcel of the government that rounded up citizens in the wee hours of the morning in ‘zero option saga’ and incarcerated Dean and others and KK on Christmas day, all on trumped up charges. She did not say that Chiluba is leading Zambia to the brink of civil war! Does she want the President to start using his powers and arrest people here and there without trial? I am so saddened when people who have too much freedom, like Zambians never had before, talk about abuse of power and police brutality! Some want to pretend to be martyrs when they still have their rights and freedoms. All Zambians have freedom of speech but when the President, disagrees with them, they call him a dictator! He has as much right as everyone else to speak his mind and as President, he has the right to accept or reject advice. That is not dictatorship, it is taking personal responsibility.

  5. The one reason why Zambia is as it is today is because of the benignity of the President. Too many people have been allowed to take pot shots at him. Zambians themselves and led by a popular malignantly hateful media have brought this situation upon themselves. The President is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. All who have known RB from times past know that he has always been a softie and a Giant who cannot hurt a fly. They took advantage of this and used it to malign him with impunity so that whatever he says, is twisted to his disadvantage. He has spats with political leaders of the opposition, but RB has never insulted the Zambian people whom he holds in high regard. As he says, he has made a pact with the people and may it ever be.

  6. I hate politicians who speak of civil war. Zambia is not to be peaceful and the violence we see are purely greed from from our politicians. We need to condem violence of all kinds being perpetuated by politicians.

  7. She will get what she wishes for, maybe she will appreciate what a civil war is. Willy-nilly talk about a civil war should be a pebnalisable offence, especially coming from a so called leader.

  9. BUT Nawakwi still has a point.

RB must not think that Zambia is still where KK left it for him to now come and revive the UNIPIST Vigilante mentality.

RB’s Kabonde and William Banda are a bad combination for Zambia’s peace. They don’t know what Democracy means, and as for Kabonde, he doesn’t know whay he is head of Police and who his paymasters are.

On the other hand, Edith Nawakwi must apologise to the people of Zambia for supporting and campaigning for RB in the Presidential bye-election which saw RB taking the reigns of power following the death of LPM.

Any speeches before we hear an apology will still leave doubts about the credibility of Nawakwi’s thinking.

  10. Zambia is heading toward civil war because of people who have refused to reason and have chosen to follow political opportunists blindly.

When people talk of supporting their parties, they are convinced that even death is acceptable as a means for their party to win elections.

This kind of mood will bring Zambia to complete civil war and the change that these blind followers are asking for will come with lots of deaths, rape, murders and rebel movements destroying the mines.

It is important to let the will of the majority prevail. This is what a multi-party democracy is about.

The idea of imposing ones desires on the majority by force, will only bring civil war. So just because one group feel they want change, does not mean change should be forced on everyone else.

This just shows how democracy is an idea that the African has failed to appreciate.

  11. Edith..civil war? Surely we dont need that but the elements of civil war began under your FTJ when you wriggled your sorry flat ass chanting ‘Kaunda ala lala’ in that once dignified house meant to make laws for this country… the drive for civil strife strengthened when you Edith travelled the world over dragging along someone elses husband during what were ‘official missions’ paid for by the tax payer.

Your contacts with Ali Ben Manashi, the purchase of a house on Reed Buck Road without obtaining a loan, your attempts to ‘sell’ your country for a paltry 10,000 USD is what sets us on a path to civil strife..your dirty involment in the carlington maize scandal with your staff…the tractor scam..the fertiliser scams seemed small at the time…but now it has rebounded. You thought if you testified in the London cases for Nchito a boy who helped you grab that house in Katima Mulilo road from a widow Ms Skanyika…you were clean?

Never mind the betrayal of the poltical party you were ‘elected’ to lead.. when you went into an alliance with HH not because you believed in the alliance but because your stolen boyfriend encouraged you to do so..and you were crowned ‘Mutinta’….You think meeting Bakili Muluzi under the cover of dark is a nice move only to obtain money and hide it as your own….civil war path..whose fooling who?

Best to shut up enjoy your ill-gotten wealth, your banana plant and an occassional battery from the man you claim for your own…civil strife? Sha
