There is no University in Canada called Bradford as claimed by an opinion poll published by the Post newspaper.
The Post newspaper on Tuesday September 13, 2011, published a questionable opinion poll allegedly conducted by Zambian lecturers together with a University in Canada called Bradford.
But it is clear that there is no university in Canada called Bradford. There are 95 universities in Canada and non is called Bradford.
Here is a list of all Canadian universities by province http://www.canada-city.ca/canada-universities.php
The list above is published by The Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC), an organisation that represents Canada’s colleges and universities.
There is not even a college or secondary school called Bradford in Cananda.
Wikipedia also has this list of universities in Canada: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_universities_in_Canada
According to the poll, Michael Sata’s Patriotic Front (PF) will win this year’s elections by 55 per cent. The poll is so specific on figures and gives exactly the number of votes Sata will get. It also says the exact number of MPs the PF will get.
But the poll does not mention the Zambian lecturers except for a John Chishimba who the Post said retired as purchasing and supplies manager from the Copperbelt University (CBU) but is now doing part-time lecturing. It does not say where he is lecturing.
‘Chishimba said in Northern Province, Sata would get 400,000 votes, 287,000 in Luapula and 286,000 in Western Province. He said the opinion poll further showed that Sata would get 230,000 votes in Southern Province, 148,000 in North-Western and 181, 000 in Eastern Province. Chishimba said in Central Province, Sata would get 108,000 votes.
He said the data for the study of the opinion poll were collected from the 150 constituencies in the country. He said the total population was 300,000 of 2,000 per constituency and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) operating in every area were used to collect data’ read part of the fake poll published in the Post.
This is not the only fake poll to be publicized ahead of next week’s elections. People like Neo Simuntanyi, Vernon Mwanga, Humhprey Silupwa have all come up with all sorts of polls.
I believe this is one of the most important info for me. And i am satisfied studying your article. But should commentary on few general things, The website taste is great, the articles is actually excellent : D. Excellent job, cheers

There is no need to insult anyone, everyone should just go out and vote and the winner shall be known. Hopefully, Zambians are mature enough to do that. Dont say things now that you shall regret after winner is announced. Happy and safe voting.

These comments convince me that pf supporters don’t read or think. The UK and Canada are two distinct countries but youre exciting yourselves about Bradford University in the UK and even a Bradford Kindargarten in Canada. Do you people not stop to think and rationalise? The poll probably came from babies attending the Kindergarten, hence its innacuracy. Let us vote rationally, not emotionally. Also, open a Geoghraphy book once in a while instead of just accepting everything the Post and PF tell you. We need rationalism to steer this country forward, not cheap insults, barbarism amd lies. You are the same people who kept texting Muvi to ask why Sata was not there even when it was made clear he couldn’t be bothered to attend the debates. Probably because he would fail to articulate issues rationally and accurately against the intellectuals who attended and made valid points.

Incognito, the post has done evry well in campaigning for PF. i think you should not start dissociating yourself from them now that they have reported an error, just once.
the post has not comapigned for HH, have condemned MMD, but decorated PF.
even this report was meant to decorate PF.
you should be principled to accept the error, but dont disccociate yourself from a paper that has worked so hard to discredit others.
anyway, we will see if the campaigns are smooth for your party, its only six days to go.

I support Sata. But there is no need for the POST or whoever to come up with funny opinion polls done by non-existent Universities to justify a cause. Like most people have said, there is no Bradford University in Canada. Yes it exists in the UK but the story never referred to the UK university, but some kantemba university in CANADA. Let those who thrive in fake opinion polls continue leaving in dreamland while we continue rowing the boat to state house. The POST or whoever is doing this should not confuse an already smooth running campaign

I have a problem with strategists political parties are employing with image building. It is clear that for neutral eyes we may start to misunderstand PF and the Post, what is there issue here? Is it that they want to dispute the actual results of the votes once results are made public or they are just playing mind games with the other poll? Only time will tell, but Post is going too low for PF, what is it in there for them once PF is in power if this even happens? It is only a short while ago we read about a lecture in UK and once I saw the scene on TV it was sad to say the least. Post you are not well meaning for this nation or are you doing PF any good.

The Problem with PF is that they are being conned by the person who did the opinion polls because that person knows that they are not educated, they know nothing about educational institutions. They have wasted their money on a fake opinion poll. How can you give such an idiotic group to run a more sophisticated national economy? Even the POst newspaper joined in the exitement before checking their facts right. No, to be honest I can predict deep civil strife if PF wins elections. The amount of desperation is astounding, and I have never seen that in my life and I’m not exactly young. If PF loses, most of the leaders in PF will be dead within 5 years due to stress and hyper-tension.
Swanda - September 14, 2011

The issue is not the results of the opinion polls but the credibility of such a poll. Opinion polls represent what is on the ground and therefore the methodology should be scientific and sound. There is no value in having a skewed opinion poll which will not add any value to your objectives. They dont help any one including the authors. Its like Mr. Bean sending a Christmas card to himself.
Yes I have Searched for Bradford University in Canada and I can’t find it. Abaakaabaa! The dispute is not about Bradford University in Uk but in Canada as claimed by the Post. The truth must always be told if does not exist say so. I could have posted the list of Universities in Canada categorised as Major, Medium and Small but that will take too much space.
The Post will contribute to the loss of elections by PF because it has decided to be publishing propaganda and not the truth. Unfortunately my brothers and sisters in PF think absolute truth comes only from the Post. Please broaden your horizon. Credible opinion polls will help you win elections by making you change unproductive tactics. Is it a Dont Kubeba culture where even Universities should be secrete places? That Opinion poll could be true but how can people with ability believe it if you are using don’t kubeba Universities to conduct them?

I used to be very inseperable with the post in the 90s and early 2000s. i remeber even at the university i would spare a k3000 three times a week from my meal allowances just to have this paper on selected day because i could not afford daily. When i started working, i NEVER missed a copy every day. before i read the POST, i felt like am very behind with current affairs. Its true that then there was something to learn from every copy of the post every day. The story is no longer the same today. Forexample, i dont remember the last time i had my own copy of the post. I dont even rember ever holding the post to read word by word, page by page. Something has seriously gone wrong with this once upon a time powerful newspaper. It used to set the agenda for this country. What the post wrote was accurate all the time. There were credible people writing articles on many pages. Every morning i bought it, i would confortably sit and spend my quality 1.5 hours reading this paper, sometimes reading some articles. Anyway they say whatever goes up must surely come down, chalo lifupa—wakolokota, washa. i hope we will have another of that kind.

PF 4 Sata I can smell your desperation even through the computer screen! Surely any university in Canada worth talking about would come up when googled! So you want us to believe a poll conducted by a Canadian university that can not be googled, but discount those given by Economic Intelligence Unit and Stanbic bank? Universities in the west are competitive entities that need to attract students and funding for research, there is no way that any university worth its salt in Canada would not appear on google if it existed. Are you telling that a credible university in Canada would not even have its own website? Just admit it and accept that this has been an own goal on the part of pf and pfost. It would be quite funny if it was not so sad and unbecoming of a paper that once dug deeper.

PF & 4 SATA – missing the whole point. See the way the whole thing was played out by The Post made it seem as if this was a very credible institution when in fact all the indications are that it does not exist. This means:
1. That The Post is so desperate to get rid of RB that they are forgetting simple rules of journalism such as checking facts and sources.
2. Reputations take a long time to build. If your pardigm is the universities sprouting out all over Zambia, then look at it this way. Would a serious person from outside that needed academic support in Zambia go to some ramshackle new university to get support or would he go to a long established internationally recognised institution like UNZA.Doesn’t require an answering – its obvious.
Bottom line, because The Post forgot to check its facts and/or ascertain the credibility of Bradford University (even if it existed), nobody can take it seriously anymore – even more so from the point of view that The Post has been busy accusing other polls and people who conduct them of lacking credibility.

Henry Banda – no farming county called Guerila in Ontario either. There is a city called Orilla, Ontario. But, there is no mention of a Bradford University Canada there either. Also can’t find Bradford University in Australia. I am afraid you and your friends in the PF are on a hiding to nothing on this one. Latest in a long list of fuck ups in your campaign – adopting your MPs late, going on a wild goose chase over RB eligibility to be President, not attending Chiluba’s funeral (which will cost you in rural Luapula Province), snubbing the Litunga whenever Sata is in Western Province (which will cost you in rural Barotseland where the Litunga is still revered), not budgeting properly for the election, the list is endless. I think you should use the remaining days of the campaign to address these short falls and not peddle blatant lies that are easy to disprove. That I am afraid may backfire because it will bring into serious question everything that your vuvuzela The Post has reported in your favour before. This may in turn also cost you votes among more serious minded people in more enlightened areas like Lusaka.
