‘At Palace Hotel in Lusaka we enter new year with bleeding hearts’
Dear Editor,
Greetings from the concerned members of staff from the Grand Palace Hotel in Lusaka. We enter this new year with our hearts bleeding because of the way the owners of the hotel are running the affairs of the hotel. Off major concern to us is the service charges which the owners of the hotel have pegged at K250,000.00 (Kr 250.00) to be given to each employee on monthly basis despite the fact that more money is collected in terms of the service charge from the clients.
We feel this is day-light and would like to make presentations through you to the Minister of Labor to visit the hotel and check what is happening. Salaries are meagre and the only hope of us getting a reasonable salary are diluted through the stealing of our service charges by management.
We have meet with Hotel Catering and Allied Workers Union of Zambia but cannot engage management at the moment because there is no recognition agreement in place. We feel Service Charge is law and no one should temper with it.
We will really appreciate if the Government through its relevant departments can make a follow up on this matter.
Regards.
Concerned Staff.
You knw wat bro? Just stage a peacefull demo and call all media houses to record the protest and maybe hopefuly it might convince your bosses to do something about it. Goodluck

I don’t know how some employers think, as if they were born from the same mother. All you have in your mind is stomach and taking your children to expensive schools forgetting that your workers have families aswell. If it was the other way round, can you manage a family with KR250 for thirty days, plus school fees for the children etc.

First and foremost, who is the owner of this shitty 1 star hotel? A ZAMBIAN! Please, please you ignorant internet pubescents, whenever the word an investor is mentioned does not mean that investor is foreign.
If you sang that useless donchi something song, then you deserve no sympathy.

Service charge should never even be a law. Customers can refuse to pay it if they like. The problem with us Zambians is that we love to complain complain complain. I’m sure some of these bigger hotels pay their staff less. Be grateful for even being paid it. People are complaining about not being paid salaries and you ungrateful ones are complaining about bonus’ . You need a reality check my friend.

You are the most ignorant person on the planet. No wonder your parents named you STAN YOKO it starts with them. Do you even understand the meaning of Service charge? These workers are entitled to it.

As a work be content with what your employee pays you. Otherwise go and work for yourself. If there is anything you think your employer is doing iligally, take him to court. Its that simple. Otherwise whatever the Pabwato were telling you in those huge huge campaign/comedy rallies about flashing unfair employers was a mirage.

Its always difficult to watch people going through hell after their decision has back fired on them. These same workers plus hundreds around the country are the ones to blame for the current mess.I am not saying nothing should be done for them but in as much as they deserve to be heard, they must learn lessons. We are all in this mess because of dull chaps who voted with emotion instead of brains.I hope your goverment will do something about it.Can you now surely compare the chaps in goverment to HH.A rich genius whose onyl intention is to change the lives of poor Zambians.Over 5 billion in wealth what else can a goverment JOB offer to HH which he has not had before.? Its only one with a snake1s name and seven guns that will be hungry for a state Job to enrich himself as evidenced by his 50% salary increament,Retiremnt home budget before he evens retires.Fellow Zambians,we need to see beyond our tribal preferences and vote for HH.Because he is the only Sane poltician whose ambition is selfless.

How can you fix service change, pls report first in writing to hotel & catering association of Zambia .they are stealing clean from you. INVESTORS OF ZAMBIA, PURE THIEVES.

Can someone educate me whether the government has now abandon the rotation system of financial and accounting personnel. that policy was good as it stopped corruption and encouraged accountability. At the ministry of education, Chibombo, and agriculture, Chilanga, we have some ill – qualified accountants that have over stayed at their station of duty i.e. 10 years. These two are an example of many that are now behaving as if they were Chief Accountants. Only answerable to themselves

I guess your answer is a big YESS so get the change and “donchi kubeba” you wanted and dont waste our time.

ba watchdog this is the same issue i reported to you about Royal solwezi Hotel, the service charge does not change and those who work night shifts are paid k3,000 now k3 for each night worked, when their contracts stipulated that it is 15 percent of the basic which in this case is about k600,000 now k600.can the relevant authorities do something about this. These employees have been made to sign backdated contracts when pf came into power because they thought that pf was going to be tuff with them but this is not the case.
