UTH oxygen machines out of service

uthThe University Teaching Hospital (UTH) has run out of oxygen risking the lives of patients requiring the service.

UTH managing director Dr Lackson Kasonka has confirmed saying the oxygen plant has broken down but that they were using oxygen tanks to attend to emergencies.

Dr Kasonka however said they have already bought a new machine from South Africa in order to sustain oxygen supply at the institution and that it will arrive this week.

UTH urologist Dr Francis Manda has also confirmed saying the oxygen area at the institution has since been closed.

Dr Manda said some activities in the theatre laboratory have been stopped while the intensive care unit is partially operational.

  1. That oxygen hardly makes any difference to survival in UTH. That place is a death camp.

If you want to win an election, what you need to do is find a candidate that can add numbers and read the polls right. None of you candidates could read the polls. Till the end, you guys still didn’t have a clue! Why am I even wasting my time with a bunch of idiot faggots. You are not going to win the next election anyway. You can start crying now cause 2016 will be Sata again & again!!!! After that, we ll have the president from the East. Just mark my words. You guys are done!!! We don’t care about your party! You guys are too d…. gush!!!! The country has changed!!! I know these dayz are your worse nightmare but you need to get over it. Trashing the PF is not going to give you any vote. Didn’t you learn your lesson from 2011??? The more you act crazy, the less chance you have to come back to power. You need to have something more constructive.

  13. Lets face it Dr Lackson Kasonka has failed to run that big medical institution. Recently he supported the mix up of bodies claiming that UTH was not responsible for the loss of a body which was wrongly buried and yet the mortuary which mixed up the bodies belongs to the institution. Now we are faced with this time bomb, the Oxygen mess. Lackson for heaven’s sake QUIT, QUIT QUIT if the shoes are too big for you. You have proved to be incompetent.

    Ex Medical CEO - January 22, 2013
    09:12

    • No I don’t agree that Lackson should be blamed. The buck stops squarely at State House because I remember vividly well that Sata promised to revamp the operations of UTH within 90 days from 23rd September 2011. In a democracy, politicians should honour their campaign promises to the word.

      • The problem at UTH has been ongoing for several years. Dr Lackson Kasonka knew about these problems in the three years he has been Managing director and did nothing. How could he have allowed the situation to get this desperate? This is unacceptable. He should be sacked with immediate effect!!!! People have been dying unecessarily because of the incompetence of Dr kasonka. Let someone who is serious and has a heart to revamp that once upon a time glorious hospital take over immediately. Enough is enough!!!!!!!

  14. Chilifye as long as the Bembas are ruling. Lekeni man of action Sata ateke. For Ukwa, everything is ok as he can go to SA for treatment under the guise of supporting or more accurately bringing mashamo to his donchi kubeba boys like Chris Katongo. I am sure the $90,000 x 22 would solve this problem.

    • It’s not IDIOTS who stood on various podiums and promised to improve the health delivery system in our country. It was this current Govt that made the promises. So, @ Cheelo, you are really being unfair to right thinking Zambians who do not have shallow memories like you. Unless you have not had a patient at UTH, I can excuse you for your total lack of thought.

  22. This is PF for you. From day 1, i stated on this forum that Sata had the greatest opportunity to improve UTH specialist clinics because he consistently preached against the sending of patients at great cost to other countries to access specialised treatment. Alas, the president has changed like a chameleon! He is more interested in poaching opposition MPs to his side regardless of the high cost of bye elections. In short, his focus has shifted from the Zambian people to his selfish populist ego. At the rate we are going, Sata will not leave behind any legacy, because whatever little will be achieved in his time as president, would still have been achieved anyway regardless of who the president was.

    Bob - January 22, 2013

    • Every president leaves a legacy. ‘No legacy’ is legacy itself. HEMCS did not come to the office to work but to satiate his alta ego that he is also a presido….
