Sakeni says Mapatizya formula is ’Jihad Political War’’

STATEMENT BY HON. KENNEDY SAKENI, MP MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING SERVICES AND CHIEF GOVERNMENT SPOKESPERSON ON THE ‘MAPATIZYA FORMULA’

Zambians are entitled to a free and peaceful atmosphere in choosing leaders of their choice in the forthcoming Livingstone Central and Mpongwe Parliamentary By-Elections.

It is, therefore, unacceptable for opposition UPND Livingstone Central Parliamentary by-election Campaign Manager Mr. Garry Nkombo to insist that it will use the so called ‘Mapatizya formula’ in the by-elections, as reported by some sections of the media.

Zambians have not forgotten the violence and brutality perpetrated by the UPND on innocent people in the Mapatizya parliamentary by-election in Kalomo, Southern Province, eight years ago, where the so called ‘Mapatizya formula’ was coined.

Mr. Nkombo is reminded that in that bloody by-election, the UPND campaign team organised a ‘militia’ that attacked motorists, held meetings without permits and harassed members of the opposing camp.

At a press conference on 4th May, 2005, to announce its candidate, the UPND blatantly declared what it called a ‘’Jihad Political War’’ which incited cadres to resort to violence and disregard the authority of the police and other law enforcement agents  in the by-election.

Is this what the UPND wants to do in the forthcoming Livingstone by-election, as stated by Mr. Nkombo?

We urge the people of Zambia to reject political parties like UPND that believe in violence.

UPND is further reminded that Livingstone occupies a special place as the country’s tourist capital which is also earmarked to co-host the prestigious United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly this August.

As such, any acts of political violence will be met with the full force of the law.

HON. KENNEDY SAKENI, MP
MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING SERVICES AND CHIEF GOVERNMENT SPOKESPERSON

  26. PF has their own understanding of this formula. The formula is simple. Be peaceful. When your votes are being stolen, defend them to ensure democracy in the end wins. Simple formula like this is being misunderstood giving length reactions by Kabimba and Sakeni. Is not as easy as L x B?

Ba sakeni there is no such thing as ‘jihad political war’.a political war can not and will never be jihad.jihad means holy ‘war’.striving to do what Allah has commanded you to do is also jihad.jihad has a lot of definitions, but what you have said is no where close to any definition.research ba sakeni.

    • Thank you there my brother. I’m a Muslim and I feel offended that you are pulling and using a holy and religious term for political gain with. Total disregard to religion, please abstain from it.
If someone had used that term, atleast government in the form of this whole Minister should have desisted from using it in his speech or statement.
You are offending us. Please keep our religion out of dirty political games. We will also expect a retraction of the statement and an apology if you are man enough

          • MK and your muslim brotherhood friend, what is so holy about a simple word like Jihad? Its just a word, a word expressing an act of war against what someone deems unholy. No religion, race or tribe own words. Its you who is insensitive here.

  40. Mr Minister, go and read what a Jihad is and you will save yourself being embarrassed when you reach a court of law. A jihad has nothing to do with violence, it is a holy war, a struggle against the devil or evil that lies within the being. Your fight against bad you have can be called a Jihad. Sorry you illiterate minister!
