Zambian Airways debt rises

The total debt owed by the defunct Zambian Airways to public institutions now stands in excess of K130 Billion.

The debt to Development Bank of Zambia has now more than doubled from K14 billion to K30 billion inclusive of capital.

The full amounts are owed to Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), National Airports Corporation (NAC) National Pensions Authority (NAPSA) and the Development Bank of Zambia (DBZ) and other trade debtors.

The defunct airline was owned by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mutembo Nchito and his brother Nchima and Post Newspapers editor Fred M’membe.

Efforts to recover the  tax payers money are now before the courts of law after attempts  to evade the debts by trio attracted serious on-going legal battles.

The civil society organisations too have  thrown their weight behind the matter to ensure that every ngwee owed to Zambians is recovered and channeled to national development efforts.

  3. MY PROPHECY: 2016 will be the toughest year and bloodiest year ever seen in this country. 2016 is a year of Light vs Darkness. Cheaters will be smoked out. Zambians have had enough. PF will be too hot for anyone to take a front row seat. The opposition will gang up together in gvt of national unity. Unfulfilled promises will take centre stage of condemnation. Scandals and mass resignations will take place. It will the FIRST REVOLUTION to EMANCIPATE ourselves from the greedy powerful. It will be a fight of the HAVES with the HAVE-NOTS. Global ratings of Zambia will drop. Hunger will be at its peak and commodity shortages will arise, as a result of holding. Fuel, will be damn expensive and rare – to thwart anti-gvt movement. Come 2016, Fred Mmembe, Mutembo Nchito shall be in prison over gvt debt. Parliament will come to roost, to reality. Morningside clinic will receive prominent Zambian political leaders claiming to be seek just to avoid detention back home. Brace for it. Prophet 2016.

  6. Zambia will never have any national carrier. first of all there no good management for airline industry in Zambia. at least you had Zambezi airline, although being a private company at least it provided work for Zambians and it was well managed , before the Mmembe’s came with politics to destroy so that in order to come up with with their airline.aviation is a very complex business which needs a lot hard work to expand the business
there is high seasons and low seasons. and when do not your marketing, properly during the low seasons you are likely to go on the drain. Zambia airways has been blacklisted to fly in European skies so were do think they can dominate their market around Africa? Zambezi airways was a sister company of Air Namibia which has got a good reputation in Africa. that why they were expanding so quickly.

I think there’s a lot that is being swept under the carpet. This is why m’membe is busy writing good about cobra, because he knows that if he doesnt all these tuma cases will popp up,they will have to pay because DBZ cannot function properly because of the money crooks are holding on,kawalala ni kawalala regardless whether you pick pocket or you use your pen the name and punishment should apply to both of them.we shall pray even if they hid now but we shall pray and we will make sure that they pay back what is owed to us.This is our country and it deserves to grow economically.we shall remove cobra, kabimba and all those minions involved

You could be ashamed to call him the Justice Minister, just wasting the valuable position giving it to a cockroach. We shall meet in Shibuyunji one day.

  14. Not so long ago Pafwaka sata was boasting to the Nation that a National Airline is needed honestly this man has failed to feed the his citizens ( buying maize at KR 100) because he over exported how then can we trust him with running a complicated industry like an Airline. He should ask his gay friend at the POST how hard it is. Sata’s hallucinations will never end this is the same man who caused fuel shortage because he exported all stocks to Malawi. IQ tests should be mandatory for future presidential candidates so we can avoid a repeat of this mistake. making noise, insulting and making fake promises shouldn’t be the criteria as of 2013.

  21. Zambian Airways was a family business for Nchito brothers to an extent that Mr Passmore Hamukoma who is married to their elder sister was appointed Board Chairman. Inclusion of gayman Mumembe in ownership became a serious concocted product of thieves. Please ensure they pay back that K130 Billion.

  23. What is our President doing over this huge sum of money which Mtembo and Mmembe owe Zambians? Please if this is not brought back to court as it is lying in the camera, we the outsiders smell a rat. Maybe their are many government officials who are connected to this.

Where is the Malawian Lawyer and Judge who was called by the President to take up the tribunal? If he has gone back how much has he gone with and if he is still in the country what is he doing and why keeping him all this time? Zambians let us work up. Someone is abusing the office and mismanaging our resources.

They must pay. ZRA should also drag them to court too. There is no justice in the Country as it is now.

  30. For money owed to NAPSA, it means those gallant workers of the defunct airline did not make contributions for a certain number of months. These are the things that bring about controversy when claiming pension from NAPSA because in many cases, that is the time a pensioner gets to know that his employer did not remit their contributions despite the deduction being made on the payslip. Zambian Airways must pay the unpaid contributions and the promoters should take this seriously and stop bragging about their connections with the powers that be.
