Sata orders banks to give him HH’s bank details again
President Michael Sata has ordered banks in the country to give him bank statements for UPND president Hakainde Hichilema dating from January 2006 to date.
Sources within the banking sector and Ministry of Finance have told the Watchdog that they received a circular requesting them to furnish State House with bank details of the UPND leader even when there is no court order or search warranty.
Sources said they are surprised that at a time the nation is mourning the death of 59 citizens in a road accident, the President is busy scheming ways of fixing his opponents instead of addressing the many challenges the country faces.
Not long ago, President Sata displayed the UPND leader’s assets and distributed them to journalists at State House with a view to label the UPND leader a thief, but the move back-fired as people thought Hakainde business skill was that the kind of leadership needed in the country.
It is not clear what the latest motive is, but sources speculate that there are moves to freeze Hakainde’s assets on flimsy grounds as Mr. Sata believes UPND survives on his financial muscle.
Currently leading opposition figures in the country such as MMD’s Nevers Mumba are facing various persecution schemes aimed at completely destroying the opposition, which is part of Sata’s medication for heart attack.
