Former
President Rupiah Bwezani Banda has arrived in Nairobi to begin his latest assignment as leader of the 50-person Carter Centre international observer mission for next Monday’s presidential and parliamentary elections Kenya.
This is according to press statement issued the deputy administrative assistant in the office of the fourth president Kennedy Limwanya.
The former Zambian president was welcomed by officials from the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Carter Centre, but conspicuously missing were officials from the Zambian High Commission.
The Zambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was informed about the trip almost two weeks ago, and a request made to extend diplomatic courtesies to President Banda.
As part of his pre-election schedule, President Banda is today expected to meet some of the eight presidential candidates and heads of the other election observer missions from the Commonwealth, European Union, African Union, and the East African Community.
He will also confer with the chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Isaac Hassan and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Willy Mutunga.

Rupiah Banda should be welcomed and accorded diplomatic niceties by Zambian High Commission officials in Nairobi.
It is sign of good manners and a mature society to show respect to your elders and past leaders.
Alas! the present Zambian government members should not forget that one day in the future they will also be Ex-President, ex-Ministers and ex-Diplomats !!!
And then how will you feel when treated with contempt and disrespect by the future leadership?

Whether Rupiah is guilty or not, he has not been tried and convicted yet. As such, he should be awarded some decency as former head of state. We can not go and wash our dirty linen in Kenya. Unless we are protesting to Kenya against their interest in RB, in which case we should lodge in a written complaint first, government to government. Otherwise, this looks very amateurish.

Unfortunately some people get their opinions from Mr Fred Meembe. All they see is what the Post tells them. It does not matter whether or not you are innocent. As long as the Post has a bone to chew with you, for some useful idiots you are corrupt, a thief etc. Many visitors to the ZWD do not think for themselves. They have no evidence against RB but because Fred Meembe is on a personal crusade against RB, people have put their brains on hold and blindly follow Fred’s personal crusade WITHOUT DEMANDING FOR CLEAR EVIDENCE.

What type of public service do we have?. What do other diplomats in that country think of us?. It will be a mammoth task to rebuild the public service of this country.
In all countries those that are assigned to foreign missions are some of the best and professional public servants. If the Ministry of foreign Affairs can be messed in this manner what more with other Ministries?

Its sad indeed. Instruction were issued to them not to receive RB . it appears president Sata has already stripped Rupia’s immunity at the instruction of Bwinjimfumu office. I have read hate editorials against Rupiah and Chiluba. According to Memmembe Rupuah should not be allowed to move freely. Same Bwinjimfumu is using TIZ to campaign for the removal of Rupiah’s immunity. Judgement has already been passed.

Our Kenyan diplomats have made a terrible mistake. Even during RB days, diplomats used to extend courtesies even to members from the opposition, including Sata himself. That’s what embassies are there for- to serve every Zambian regardless of one’s political affiliation. As a former head of state, it was even more imperative that the High Commissioner and his staff were at the airport to welcome him. There is no reason to display our hatred for RB so openly.

Now you all know that, Zambia has appointed PF cadres to be diplomats. What do you expect from these cadres except shouting PF slogans and praising their King instead of Zambia.
One just has to deal with these so called diplomats in our Misions to know that,Zambia is heading to a serious economic disaster.
After 2016,Zambians must demand a professional diplomatic service,Police Service and a very professional CIvil Service if Zambia has to continue being governed well.
The President should in a normal situation fire his Minister of Foreign Affairs for embarrassing Zambia. But we know that President Sata has already found President Banda guilty and hence has already withdrawn his immunity and diplomatic privileges. The Zambian President is again acting like a Judge and Jury of Zambia and setting very a very bad precedence.
When a new President is elected in 2016 or indeed before(very possible),the President Sata and his Cabinet should get ready to be roughed up immediately the results are announced. This will also mean that, all PF diplomats will not be recalled back, but fired and asked to find their ways back to Zambia to answer alot of charges.
President Sata should remember that,it’s was him as Secretary General of MMD who harassed President Kaunda and his Cabinet. It is President Sata who wanted Dr Kaunda to be deported to Malawi. Dr Kaunda was in and out of court in fake charges and nothing was found. Dr Kaunda is free and if only he had good advisors, KK would have been the most respected President in the whole of Africa.
President Sata is now using Dr Kaunda to try and gain some respect but it will not work. instead, our President is going to end being taken to court like President Chiluba because like Chiluba,President Sata is not only corrupt but hates other people like President Banda. I also think that, President Sata still hates late President Mwanawasa and has not forgiven him for what happened in 2001.
For the diplomats in Kenya, you must be ashamed of yourselves. How can you refuse to receive your own citizen and a former Head of State? You then call yourselves diplomats and are receiving tax payers money. You all need to be disciplined. We need someone to publish the names of all the diplomats currently in Kenya. When change comes, these diplomats will need to be black listed and never allows into the diplomatic service again.
This is only disgraceful but it is a huge diplomatic embarrassment to Zambia !!!!

I cant believe our local issues can be transported abroad in this manner. This is unafrican to bring in-house issues in public. Nature is very interesting. It always sympathizes with the weaker side. When I was young my late grandma said “a witch does not relant as long as he lives. Forgiveness is punishable by other witches.” Viva RB. God is on ur side. I can see more bigger assignments on ur way.
