Raila Odinga with RB

United States of America ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has praised former president Rupiah Banda for his role in the Carter Centre election observer mission.

Meanwhile, the former Zambian head of State two met two of the eight Kenyan presidential candidates, Raila Odinga and Peter Kenneth, stressing on the need for peace and respect for the country’s electoral process and the east African state holds its general elections tomorrow.

Speaking when former President Banda and the Carter Centre delegation paid a courtesy on him at the US embassy on Sunday, Ambassador Godec said he was happy that the Zambian leader had agreed to be part of the Kenyan election observer mission.

“I was very pleased when you agreed to be part of the Carter Centre observer mission to Kenya. Because of your background and the things you have done, you have brought value to the Carter centre,” said Ambassador Godec.

He also told Mr Banda’s delegation that massive effort had been made to ensure successful elections although he regretted that the international media appeared to purvey negative reports on the Kenyan situation.

And Carter Centre Centre vice-president for peace programmes Dr John Stremlau said his team was happy to have President Banda as its leader, a pointer to how African problems were capable of being solved by Africans.

In response, Mr Banda paid tribute to the US government for its efforts in helping achieve free and fair elections.

The Carter Centre delegation later held a meeting with presidential candidate Peter Kenneth of the Kenya National Congress at the Crowne Plaza and Raila Odinga, the candidate for the Coalition for the Restoration of Democracy (CORD) at Serena Hotel

All the election observer missions have issued a joint statement calling for peaceful conduct of elections. The observer missions are the Commonwealth, European Union, African Union, the East African Community, the Great Lakes region, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, and the Inter-Governmental Authority for Development.

  1. I’ve learned result-oriented things by means of your blog site. One other thing I’d like to say is always that newer laptop or computer operating systems usually allow more memory to be played with, but they also demand more ram simply to operate. If someone’s computer is unable to handle more memory and the newest computer software requires that ram increase, it usually is the time to buy a new Laptop or computer. Thanks

  4. RB is indeed a great statesman. It is unfortunate that our diplomats in Nairobi could sink so low as to deny this great son of Zambia the honour and respect due to him. That kind of behaviour will do nothing but dent the image of the country before the eyes of the international community. Those Diplomats in Kenya must bear one thing in mind that they survive on tax payer’s money. It is Zambians of different political persuations, religions and tribes who contribute the tax. It does not come from President Sata’s pocket or Winter Kabimba’s personal account.

  8. Honestly what’s there to congratulate RB for. Those people praising him would have been consulting zambian before appointing him. What did he do to deserve all those praises? Plundering the nation with his foreign friends & relatives? Sticky deals at state house? Making poverty levels in the country high? Surely if Rupiah did well, why was he voted out just after his first term? The people supporting him might have benefited from his crooked, rule. Shame on YOUUUUUUUUU!

    • we voted the MMD out because we wanted change. We voted the PF because it had a greater chance of removing the MMD. we were tired of MMD and we are now fed up of the PF. About Rupiah if you have evidence of his crookedness provide that information to ACC or ZP to provide to Guy Scott to take to parliament.

You believe every lie that comes out of the mouth of your man, Wonama. But educated and the well informed citizens knew RB was the right man. Today, the international organisations such as the Carter Foundation are making good use of RB and you guys are choking with envy. For two years your government has failed to bring out one single case against RB so what are you talking about iwe kolwe?

  18. As the saying goes, It is one’s history upon which they are judged, and quite rightly so. RB is being vindicated not only by Zambians but independent observers of good governance from the world over. When he sat on that chair under his desk at state house, his focus centred on investment, infrastucture building, job creation and promtion of peace for all. Ideed in three short years of his rule, we saw new hopitals, new roads and a bigger balance of trade surplus. Not killings, victimisation, intimidation, incarcerations or non-stop provocative swearing-in celemonies. What a painful sight for his ditractors!Your excellence, you all that there is to show for Zambia to world, hold your head high and whisper words of encouragement to Nevers Mumba to carry on being strong. The road he embarks on is a lonely one and by no means easy.

  19. No matter what the government will bring against RB, he has done more than what the PF government campaigned for. Lies and no vision. He led Zambia for three years of which we are seeing corrupt ministers in the PF being protected and a lot more yet the same Government is calling for the dropping of RB immunity. What dignity do you have as Government? Youths want jobs and not piece works(50000 jobs)where???? Leave the genuine people of Zambia alone and work on your promises as PF. Moreover free Garry Nkombo for your carders went to the UPND camp and started a fight. They reaped what they sowed.

    • RB did not bulldoze his way into presidency but a wise man Levy Patrick Mwanawasa saw something unique and special in him and asked him to join MMD and was appointed his vice president and later became president. And now his head is flying high making every sensible Zambian proud! What the Carter Foundation and the outside world saw in him is what Levy identified earlier. Take it or leave it – RB is a true statesman.
