RB’s immunity removed

Parliament has finally voted to remove former president Rupiah Banda’s immunity. But only 87 MPs took part in the voting as most opposition MPs walked out in protest. There are 159 MPs in the Zambian parliament.

At 19 hours local time, MPs from the ruling party who remained in the House cast the vote electronically with 80 voting in favour while 3 opposed.  Four did not vote.

Earlier, Given Lubinda supported the motion as he spoke for the first time since being convicted of treacherous behaviour by PF.

Lubinda promises to enjoy his Jin and Tonic beer tonight as part of his celebrations on the lifting of RB’s immunity.

He said the position taken is good for the people of Zambia because it is good for the country. Lubinda is famous for his treacherous conduct like leaking information.

But UPND’s Muntanga says the whole arrangement will just benefit the police and others who will get money for investigations as the case is very weak.

Request Muntanga and other opposition MPs earliar walked out but returned to oppose the motion. He said from the allegations that issues to do with campaign materials will also end PF in jail.

Mr. Muntanga said he expected more from the mover of the motion than merely unregulated campaign materials.

He said he now suspects that even the PF is heavily involved in stealing state money for campaign materials.

According to Mr. Muntanga, he is not sure where the money is hidden based on the dossier presented by Wynter Kabimba yet under Levy Mwanawasa, these things were clear.

He said he is  worried to remove immunity when there is no sufficient grounds yet once the motion is removed, it cannot be restored.

Jesus asked the pipo who had brought the lady cought in adultery to cast stones at her if they, themseves have never commited any sin.No one dared to throw a stone.Their moral consciouses convicted them. Surely of all the pipo,Kabimba was the 1st to cast a stone at RB.What hypocricy. How clean is Kabimba?Kabimba is immoral and bancrupt of any iota of feelings of a normal human being.I hope the ARVs haven’t damaged his brain.

    • Yes, I paid all opposition members of parliament to deliberately walk out so that we can remain to vote. “NICE TRICK” isn’t it? That is what we call politics.

Next, I will be appointing them deputy ministers for the job well done, and when they are fired from their parties, I will adopt them to stand on my party. My plan is, with three years everyone will be PF, including HH and Mumba.

  10. Sad reading indeed!

A very bad and ugly precedence has been set and with no doubt the same will happen to Sata when he leaves office dead or alive.

Even Sata dies in office Zambians must demand that his immunity is removed posthumously so that his evil soul is trouble. He is so mien that the man can go to that extent to avenge for the perceived wrongs done to him by those he consider political enemies and in this case RB.

Shame on Wynter Kabimba and all the PF MPs some of whom were just hoodwinked to uplift RB’s immunity when in the actual sense they know it is not right.

It should now dawn on the opposition MPs that have accepted deputy ministerial positions that Sata and PF do not mean well for Zambia and the appointments were just for numbers that he needed to illegally strip RB’s immunity.

Now that Sata has succeeded in lifting RB’s immunity, all the “DOOR MATS” (opposition MPs with ministerial positions) he has used to step into the honourable house to lift RB’s immunity must brace themselves to be frustrated by PF members until they are fished since now there job is over. They have been used!

Richwell Siamunene, Greyford Monde, Poniso Njeulu, Miyutu, Gabriel Namulambe and many others will pay for their sins!

    Idiots!

  13. Talk about a nation of docile sheeples, talk about Zambians! You were duped into voting in a government which goes on to take away your basic freedoms, violate the countries constitution and laws, and the best you can do is whine and throw around a few insults on anonymous online forums. Small wonder foreigners are syphoning out your fresh water, chopping down your forests, carting out your mineral resources and making slaves out of your kin in broad daylight!

  16. Matibini, for your information, natural justice prescribes that the title ‘speaker’ you hold entails at the very basic that your role must be one of an neural arbitor who speaks in the spirit of fairness to all sides. With what you have done, you have proved you are a speaker of only pf. You have brought down the integrity of the house and you deserve no respect.

Matibini you have created a constitutional crisis.

Which courts will hear these charges against RB? The courts that granted an injunction against the intended resolution? There is an undeniable breach of principle that is incontestible at every level and jurisdiction.

  20. The problem with section 43 the constitution just says the national assembly resolution while other sectiond such as adopting the constitution or empichieng the president requires 2/3 majority.it happened in 2011 the constitutin was not adopted as PF and UPND walked out.it is only the court which can interpret it.

  21. I wrote yesterday on the other tread that I was never a fun of RB during his short lived presidency and I’m all for prosecuting him if he indeed abused that high office. But can someone tell me: what did the country gain or benefit from lifting FTJ’s immunity and subsequently prosecuting him? Why can’t opposition MPs ask the government to tell the nation the gains achieved from that long winding prosecution of Chiluba up to and until his death? Equally how much was lost by the country through the expenses that came with the prosecution?

My gut instinct tells me NOTHING was gained, apart from fattening the bank accounts of some now fat public officers and enriching a Fraud Member of the public who benefited from FTJ’s misfortunates. So are we that gullible to go through the same expensive route as a nation to prosecute RB until his death, and enriching the same individuals in the process and adding the 3rd Seasonal person to enrich them?
