British High Commission clarifies Zamtel story in the Post and Zambia Daily Mail
The articles in the Post and Zambia Daily Mail on 28 January concerning Zamtel did not accurately reflect the British High Commission’s position on the issue.
The British High Commission fully supports the efforts to tackle corruption in Zambia. Corruption is not only wrong in itself; it also impedes economic development. DFID is working with the Zambian Government in the fight against corruption.
It is important that any action, including the reversal of the sale of Zamtel, be carried out according to the law, and that this be seen to be the case.
Furthermore, it is in the interests of Zambia that the government acts in such a way as to ensure the continued confidence of investors in the country.
The statement of David Pearce, Deputy High Commissioner, on 27 January was in line with the above. The British High Commission has not said anything further about the reversal of the sale of Zamtel and does not, at this point at least, intend to do so.
For further information please contact the Press and Public Affairs section at the British High Commission on telephone +260 2111 423200 or visit our website: http://ukinzambia.fco.gov.uk/en

SOMETIMES I WISH THEY COULD LIFT RB’S IMMUNITY. IT APPEARS THESE GUYS HAVE NOTHING AGAINST HIM AND JUST WANT TO FINISH HIM AND DESTROY THE IMAGE THAT HE WAS THE BEST PRESIDENT ZAMBIA HAS EVER HAD. THE MOST TOLERANT, WHO BROUGHT THE COUNTRY AND THE REGION TOGETHER.
THIS GOVT HAS IN A VERY SHORT TIME SUCCEEDED IN DIVIDING US AND HAVE BROUGHT TRIBAL HATRED WHICH IS DANGEROUS. INSULTS AND ‘BINKERING’ FROM HEAD OF STATE IS ORDER OF THE DAY. SO MUCH NATIONAL STRIFE.
IN A SHORT TIME ZAMBIA HAS DIFFERED WITH MALAWI, ANGOLA, NIGERIA. WHAT’S HAPPENING KANSHI????

15 years ago,I was watching some Nigerian movie in Zambia (before they became so popular in Zambia) – can’t remember the title. I was young and naive then and didn’t know much about politics. In it, one guy made a statement to the tune of ‘the worst breakers of the law are those who make it’. How true that statement is. To this day I still remember that statement.
Here is an entire government that is supposed to make laws, enforce and protect them breaking the same laws. How are citizens supposed to obey the law if those who make them are the worst breakers?
As for those criticising Mmembe, yes I can understand but the guy doesn’t hold any government position. How can an entire government be controlled by one man? The government should be able to stand up to him.

Fred Mmembe-Defacto Republican President of Zambia. He’s won his corrupt and pervert war against his perceived enemies. Now he rules and the gullible tag along..

You guys have no idea what diplomacy is now, do you? That statement is fully loaded; it will fall either side whenever convenient. That is all I can say. Already, people are treating as they treat their religious scripts: translating and deducing whatever suits their emotional state etc. at a particular time. Diplomacy is more potent than religion. Be warned, and be aware.

I once said from de beginin of dis adm, that this mariage of convinience between Post Namakando nd PF admst is a mariage of sangwapos. Mmembe is indirectly ruling zambia nd not ba sata. Ba sata is a ceremonial president, just luk at de head of pres at statehouse, ministry of info, its m’membe’s boyfriend nd finaly DPP, am startin to doubt dis man as wel thou have great respect for him and now de devil incarnate is busy coatin de judicialy to be unda his dirty foot. The devil incarnate, illuminati namakando is in charge insteady, thats how deceivingly de devil operates, so carning indeed. This is the punishment we ar geting as a country for rejecting God’s choice, samuel, in preference to soul. God, send us de david of today to come and rescue us, Lord.

We are all led to beleive RB was ‘very corrupt’ but if you ask for any example/ecidence you are met with all sorts of diversions.
Eg ‘buying lexus’, ‘selling Zimbabwean gold’ and then ‘Zamtel sell’, all three, if you look closely you should be able to see there is naught, no corruption at all. But we are stuck with Fred MMmembe’ campaign label of a good man who led us into ‘middle income’ for a brief moment before this nonsese which will certainly lead to a melt down if not checked.
Buju - January 28, 2012

Stupid british. Sata will soon grab scotland from the queen just the way Idi Amin did. These britsh are thugs indeed. When Zamtel was being grabbed, they were pouring champaign in their glasses. Now the grade 7 is targeting Zanaco which is owned by Rabobank where the dutch and brittons have interests and they start denying their stupid statements. The chickens have come home to roost for the british and indeed they are still coming. Wait until Zambia Sugar is grabbed and all commercial farms belonging to white people are grabbed, then the british and americans will regrete their regime change campain nosence

My worry is, while the very few of us (in our hundreds that is) are able to see and articulate the position of the iceburg that we are heading towards on this PF pabwato, the 13million Zambians (with the exception of fellow bloggers who are based in Zambia) are unaware of such critical exposure of the evil persons leading Zambia into reggresive and dangerous territory. And without the population becoming sensitised to the real impact and direction of the PF, ordinary people will continue to ravel believing the rethoric and that “what is in Zambia is for Zambians” even if the reality means “what is in Zambia is for PF”…

People work it out; George Chellah with State House, Amos Malupenga, Ps Information and then Ka Mmembe with the Post; so can’t you just see that all the media system are in the hands of Ka Mmembe. Daily Mail, Times of Z and ZNBC dance to the tune of the three. So all these conspiracies are in the good hands of Ka Mmembe…a coward of a man. He wants the Judiciary to also dance to his tune, the entire legal system and not even LAZ can out do him (Ka Mmembe and his croonies). How will he (Ka Mmembe) protect the job of his Zambian Airways Partner by discrediting the Judiciary. I am on my knees praying that the judiciary are not cowards and stand firm. They have to put an end to this intimidation. Let Zambia reign…father bwalya, roger chongwe and the rest are not worth it.

An eye opener to serpent Sata and his sypathisers as to why the diplomats are quiet about the madness going arround in mother Zambia. I just hpoe they won’t leave us to die like birds infested with bird-fu. Can someone out there help us before it is late? I fear for my countrymen back home!

Don’t worry people. I believe in God and everything happens for reason. I have testimonies for that. I’m in a place at the right time. Praise God. Just digesting all and watching for now. God is great. I’m not going to stand back for long if Sata continues with his madness. Be assured I’ll stand up and restore sanity and you’ll have the right party in 2016. New faces will arise…

We are doomed as a nation and must now face the reality of our owm mistake on 20 September 2011. That day will in future history books for Zambia be recorded as the most tragic day in Zambia! RB was contrallable and Zambians would have done that. I am not sure Zambians are capble of controlling the Sata-n but simply wait for 2016 by which year this country will be a mere shell!

Listen to this:
”It is important that any action, including the reversal of the sale of Zamtel, be carried out according to the law, and that this be seen to be the case”.
Was this done in the reversal of ZAMTEL?
Knee-jerk reactions have no regard to law.
Whatever cost zambia shall inccur as a result of the above shall be consitituted as corruption on the part of those involved and somebody shall pay.

We can all see the erratic way of governing that Sata (his supporters are doomed to a shameful harvest. A day of reckoning a history too will be made by him. It will be a sad one. He aimed too high and failed due to incompetence, inability, in-humility and sheer stupidity). Thank you for exposing M’membe for who he is. It is a pity that he misled so many naive people for so long. I had a bone to pick with him ever since. Now he is trapped by greed and will not quite get out of this. He is exposed as a double dealer and just a piece of crap, which does not need to represent our proud nation as the soul and heart of private journalism.

Process, procedure can sometimes be set aside by circumstance and environment.thats how you hear of self defence. you killed the robber, denying him the right to be innocent until proved otherwise! or negotiate with the robber to bring back what he stole and give him a job og guarding your house, the very house he robbed because your wife’s children from another marriage are involved. No way.

@crazyboy, beg to differ my man…turning point was at the inaugaration when presido looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights and thinking to himself in the bewildered moment ‘ohh shiiit… wasnt really serious about this presidency thing guys! and you jokers actually believed my BS and voted, WOW! I really have no idea what to do people!!!’ He promtly went into the business of committing over 39 constitutional breaches within 90 days! His economic hitman ABC also positioned himself to facilitate his masters plan to screw the economy, investor confidence and possibly complete his plan to make us HIPC country once again – it was kind of curtailed in the 70s obviously

I support Crazyboy on this one.
Sata is more of a political maneuverer than economic strategist. While I might support his intentions to get rid of the problem of Barotseland and unintended good consequences of tribalism by re-demarcating province, I do not see any vision for Zambia as far as creating jobs, sustainable development. How I wish he can ask HHand other good leaders from opposition and his team to join him, take over Vice Presidency with a promise to hand over power to them within two years as long as they concentrate on economy and he clears the mess of divisive forces, corruption (but not selective), and reforming government operations.
At present moment I can see trouble ahead. If bold decisions (in true sense and for the benefit of Zambia) are taken by him along side creating over a million jobs within months (not even one year) people will accept those decisions that are forcing them to see beyond their tribe and mind set of Bemba/Tonga/Lozi etc.
Strike a balance my friend, if you really want to achieve and mean good for Zambians, swallow your pride

In one of the threads I had asked what the ambassadors thought of what was going on. The story herewith confirms my gut feeling that they were certainly uncomfortable with the goings on. The future is certainly bleak for this nation as things stand. The positivity that Zambia had prior to 20 September 2011 is certainly gone. Soon the B+ rating will be withdrawn, and the 2012 harvest, kaya. Oh, and the truth is that even the most virulent of RB’s haters must be starting to scratch their heads, wondering whether he was that bad after all in comparison to his nemesis, MCS.

My only comment is to sincerely hope that the “penny has dropped” for all the blinded and misguided worshippers of Sata and his PF Govt. The rule of Law has to run sumpreme in a democratic society and not ignorance of Sata. No one has been against the corruption fight but the fight has to observe due process. Therefore, you cant get in the game of corruptly setting up COI’S to by pass the Law in order to justify property grabbing. And some so called patriotic Zambians have been rejoicing in this primitive and dictatorial approach when, in fact, the boat is deliberately and carelessly being steered towards rapids! Ati, real investors will come to Zambia and invest…you must be so dull if you couldnt see the writing on the wall.

Buju - January 28, 2012

M’membe is a charlatan. I think more and more Zambians are beginning to see him for who he really is – a two faced, inconsistent git.
I mean here he is criticising Musokotwane for granting Varun Beverages tax waivers and yet it was not so long ago that Zambian Airways – that he and his lover Mutembo Nchito were invested in – that was asking for the same from Magande. Life can be ironic sometimes can’t it Fred ?
It was not so long ago that he declared Sata an enemy of The Post only to turn around and start supporting his candidacy for President a few months later.
I really believe when the history of the downfall of the Sata presidency is written, this tragic episode over Zamtel and Zanaco will be seen as a major turning point.
