Sata to move Chirundu to Lusaka, Solwezi to Copperbelt

The Patriotic Front (PF) government is in the process of moving Chirundu from Southern province to Lusaka province.

Government sources have revealed that the PF has started to cede Solwezi from Northwestern and move it to the Copperbelt province.

On 24th January, 2012, Southern province minister Miles Sampa and Lusaka province minister Gerry Chanda visited Chirundu in Southern province to explain what developmental projects that their government would conduct in the area.

But to the surprise of local people, Sampa announced that Chirundu will soon be moved to Lusaka.

When they were challenged by local people, Sampa and Chanda responded that their president Michael Sata has already signed the relevant laws and the move will not be reversed.

According to information received, Kaoma district will be moved from Western to Central province.

Lukulu district will also be moved to Northwestern province.

Itezhi-tezhi will also be detached from Southern province and pushed to Central province.

The PF government wants Namalundu power plant, Kariba north power plant, and Munali mine  to be in Lusaka province.

  1. When Dr. Kaunda wanted to introduce policy issues, he came up with policy documents and announced them on one day. Eg Mulungushi and Matero reforms. Our current president is announcing policy reforms concerning realignmnet of provinces and districts piecemeal. Has he got an already thought out plan or he is thinking on adhoc basis? This is a very dangerous state of affairs. Let him sit down with his advisors (if he’s got any) and come up with a policy document and then the relevant ministry should implement that.As it is his behaviour does not inspire confidence because it seems there is no long term planning.

  2. @BOB & @ KEN PLUS MANY OTHER MISGUIDED OR RATHER MISINFORMED CHARACTERS, LETS ASK OURSELVES THESE QUESTIONS. DID YOU KNOW THAT LUAPULA WAS ONCE PART OF NORTHERN PROVINCE TILL KAUNDA FORMED THIS NEW PROVINCE CALLED LUAPULA FOR ADMIN PURPOSES? WHICH PIPO OR CHIEFDOM’S WERE DIVIDED/AFFECTED OR MOVED FROM THEIR INITIAL PLACES AS YOU SUGGEST? CHINSALI WAS PART OF NORTHERN PROVINCE FOR THE BEMBA YET TODAY ITS PART OF 10TH MUCHINGA PROVINCE, WHICH PIPO, CHIEFS, HEADMEN OR TRIBE HAVE BEEN ROBBED OF AUTHORITY OR ECONOMIC BENEFITS AS A RESULT OF THIS ACTION? DID YOU KNOW THAT ONCE UPON A TIME LUSAKA PROVINCE WAS PART OF CENTRAL PROVINCE TILL KAUNDA CREATED LUSAKA PROVINCE? AGAIN, WHICH TRIBE, PIPO, RACE, CREED, HEADMAN HAS BEEN DISPLACED OR DIVIDED AS A RESULT OF THIS ACTION? THE NEW DISTRICTS OR REALIGNED DISTRICTS ENTAILS THAT DISTRICT HEADS OR LEADERS WILL REPORT TO ANOTHER PROVINCIAL HEAD OR CONTROLLING OFFICER PERIOD…… YOU MAINTAIN YOUR CHIEF, LANGUAGE, AUTHORITY AND OWNERSHIP OF YOUR LAND. THE PROVINCIAL BOUNDARIES ARE NOT “TRIBAL BOUNDARIES” PLEASE ZAMBIANS OF GOOD WILL GET THIS INTO YOUR HEADS AND LET NO ONE MISLEAD YOU. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WILL CONTINUE AS LONG AS DECENTRALIZATION AND OUR POPULATION GROWS SO THAT SERVICE DELIVERY TO THE PIPO IS ENHANCED. AND LASTLY, DID YOU KNOW THAT CHAMA WHICH WAS PART OF EASTERN PROVINCE BUT NOW PART OF MUCHINGA PROVINCE WAS INITIALLY PART OF NORTHERN PROVINCE UNTIL LUAPULA PROVINCE WAS CREATED AND CHAMA WAS TAKEN AWAY FROM NORTHERN PROVINCE TO BECOME PART OF EASTERN PROVINCE? AGAIN I ASK YOU BROTHERS, WHICH CHIEF, TRIBE, RACE, LANGUAGE WAS ROBBED OF ITS ECONOMIC BENEFITS OR AUTHORITY AS A RESULT OF THIS ACTION? THINK CAREFULLY AND ANALYZE UPND’S POSITION ON THIS MATTTER IF INDEED THEY ARE SINCERE.

  3. Sata should just pick up the Sixth National Development Plan and begin to implement it. The technocrats did their part and now it’s his turn to operationalise it. He should not waste our time and resources on useless political back somersaults of shifting boundaries. Has he ever seen the SNDP I wonder? May be he doesn’t just understand it.

  9. Is this coming from the fears that if surely barotse land detachment went thru….then zambia would have all the resourceful developed pieces of land to itself????? why such sudden moves….thus why that so called constitution is supposed to remove powers from 1 man or let alone cabinet coz hei they have proved to be no good advisers so far. You mean pipo can be left to dream and act following day without any consultations just like that??? Do dare touch solwezi.

  12. Mr. President has now become parliament on his own. Such issues were supposed to be tabled before parliament not a one man decision. Changing of cities is not PF promise to people. Why is he acting out of the PF manifesto which Zambians are awaitig it’s fulfiment? Has the manifesto become impotent now?

  13. Fred Mmembe supports relocation of Chirundu and Itezhi Tezhi because of economic reasons as the man is gearing himself for the PF presidency in the next elections. He thinks it does not matter where Chirundu or ITZ dam is and yet he knows that with them out of SP, that would weaken the area come full decentralisation. Who the hell does this id.iot think he can cheat?

  15. Government made simple. When we said you need young leaders with alive and active brains you continued singing unwarranted praises of an old man with a dead brain. A case of the blind leading the blind really. Like our American brethren would say you Zambians aint seen nothing yet of this PF government. Wait until you collapse with awe because at the rate we are going we will soon be a headless-chicken-like country.

  18. If Sata and PF have no use for the money to be wasted on shifting districts and provinces and very soon villages and chiefdoms; be kind enough to donate these hundreds of billions of Kwacha to: buy beds and warm blankets and stoves and fridges for the old people’s homes; buy excercise books, uniforms, shoes and operate a feeding program for the orphans; buy motor-driven wheel chairs for the many in Zambia that cannot use their legs; buy beds and blankets and stoves and fridges for the mentally ill at Chainama who live in prison-like conditions. Make life better for the weakest in our society, instead of using the billions to relocate civil servants, print more stationary, hold workshops, conduct so-called familiarization tours with large Per Diems, bribe corrupt and greedy chiefs, buy more 4X4 luxury Land cruisers for the beuracrats. MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF THE POOR IN ZAMBIA

  19. If Sata and PF have no use for the money to be wasted on shifting districts and provinces and very soon villages and chiefdoms; be kind enough to donate these hundreds of billions of Kwacha to: buy beds and warm blankets and stoves and fridges for the old As for Solwezi, the capital of North Western province “moving” to Copperbelt it will be simply the biggest insult to the people of North Western Province and we do NOT need insults ANYMORE. Least of all, why align to an environmentally degraded Copperbelt which has is a dilapitated province just full of potholes, shanties everywhere. How will shifting of Solwezi to Copperbelt help patch up these finished mining towns? If it is because Solwezi has three large mines, but then all the taxes go to the Government and even limping Copperbelt can be given a share of the cake, WITHOUT shifting Solwezi. It is cheaper and of course people of North Western Province include Solwezi, with geographical and cultural and linguistic identity different from other provinces. Sata should get on wiith the job of developing this improvished country instead of spending time on where the next district must go, it counts for naught. At the end of the day, end of five years, what will he say he achieved? God bless Zambia

  22. Zambians used to think that they had moved from tyran to democratic dispensation with an active and vocal civil society organisations where all the decisions were to be made through consultations. And all of the sadden, boom, Sata moves on stage and starts making decisions alone.

Zambians are so scared that no one speaks out. Congratulations Sata! We used to be lied to that such things are not in line with democracy but there we have it.. Go Sata, go. Announce the seperation of Kaoma from Western and Solwezi from Northwestern province. Punish them for not voting for you. You are a vengeful man, poisonous cobra, dont care man of action.By the time you are through with Zambia, zambian should be as passive as a sheep. ”Yes bwana, ba boss ba kamba, follow the leader, ba sata abene ebeshibe, mano kuli driver, boma ni boma….”

  23. PF SIMPLY MEANS “PALIBE FIMFULUNG’ANYA” AS THEIR BEHAVIOUR IS SIMPLY WHAT PEOPLE WERE BEING TOLD BEFORE THESE CROOKS CAME INTO POWER; VERY UNREASONABLE AND UNPREDICTABLE. WHAT IS THE POINT OF MOVING SOLWEZI INTO COPPERBELT, CHIRUNDU INTO LUSAKA, SESHEKE INTO CENTRAL AND LUKELU INTO NORTH-WESTERN? SATA WANTS TO DIVERT PEOPLE FROM FOCUSING ON ELECTION PROMISES TO NEW UNBENEFITIAL CHANGES. IF THIS IS NOT TOTAL MADNESS AT STATE HOUSE, THEN I DONT KNOW WHAT WOULD BE CLASSIFIED AS SUCH. HAKAINDE’S STATEMENT IN 2006 OF “I SHUDDER TO IMAGINE SATA BEING PRESIDENT” ARE COMING TRUE. SENSIBLE ZAMBIANS SHOULD BE SHUDDERING UNDER HIM, NOW.
