Kalaba to miss crucial tie against Uganda due to injury

Star midfielder Rainford Kalaba will not make the team for Zambia’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda after sustaining a groin injury during club commitment on Sunday.

Kalaba suffered the injury when he featured against Esperance of Tunisia who stayed on course for a second consecutive Orange CAF Champions League title by forcing a 0-0 draw at TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo Sunday in the semi-finals.

Kalaba is ruled out of action for over seven days and will only resume light training after the weekend Zambia would have played Uganda in a decisive final round, return leg qualifier at Namboole Stadium in Kampala.

The news is a huge blow to coach Herve Renard’s team after they set up base in South Africa on Sunday where they started getting ready for this Saturday’s clash.

Sources in DRC told the Watchdog that Kalaba this morning went to the clinic for medication.

In an interview, the Zambian playmaker said he was disappointed that he wont be able to feature for his country but was confident that his teammates will produce a good result against Uganda.

As the Zambian legion at TP Mazembe players were boarding their flight out of Lubumbashi to Johannesburg this morning, Kalaba remained behind in the Democratic Republic of Congo where medical staff were attending to his groin injury.

In the same game, Zambia’s Africa Cup of Nations-winning defender Stoppila Sunzu was sent off during the closing stages in Southern Congolese mining city Lubumbashi after being cautioned a second time and is automatically barred from the return game.

His dismissal in a fiery clash that produced four yellow cards to each team completed a disappointing afternoon for Mazembe, who thrashed Esperance 5-0 at home in the first leg of the 2010 final.

The Tunisians comfortably contained the home team during the first half, but had a few scares after half-time as Mazembe increased the tempo in search of a first-leg advantage.

Unmarked Mbwana Samata nodded just over, goalkeeper Moez Ben Cherifia pushed away a stinging shot, and Ngandu Kasongo squandered a great chance to break the deadlock by firing wide in stoppage time.

NOOOOOOOOOO……..I wanted Zambia to be at its full strength so that it is humiliated in Namboole. I already feel pity for the already depleted Cheap polopolo. First, Zambian Netherlands based striker Jacob Mulenga lost his father and he has been ruled out of the Uganda clash because this may torment him and thus will miss this weekend’s CAF 2013 South Africa AFCON qualifier. Two, the inspirational play maker Rainford Kalaba was ruled out of Saturday’s encounter with the Mighty Cranes in Namboole due to a groin injury. To add misery to the Zambians, a little known Lutanda Soccer Academy’s midfielder, Shadreck Mayembe Peter has been called up by coach Herve Renard to the Chipolopolo camp in South Africa for the African Cup of Nations qualifier I wanted the Chipolopolo to be at full strength so that they don’t have excuses at end of 90 minutes. I don’t want excuses that Zambia lost because Jacob Mulenga and Rainford Kalaba were not on field.Uganda Cranes 3 Zambia 0.

@fire and RallyGuru, idmwe vipubu for not accepting reality. That boy is known as muswema from wayback and why is it that everybody was rather annoyed than pleased when they realised it was katongo the goal scorer against uganda.no smoke without fire.its myopic chaps like u who will go to length supporting sumthing even when the obvious is opposite.you even claim moral uprightness yet u are the chaps who bonke girlfriends in guest houses.what a buch of loser idiots!!

stop the fkn excuses and go to win Uganda.ALLA IMWE…TAMWISHIBE thats tax payers money & i’m paying

  11. Sway  October 8, 2012 at 16:41

Zambia should not make a mistake of defending the only goal so far. The Coach should adopt the Barcelona approach to games. Its difficult to know when Barcelona plays at home and away, they always play like they are at home even when they are playing away.

  12. Dombwa  October 8, 2012 at 16:29

Zambia wil go nowhere. If anything, winning the Afcon was a fluke. Zambia 0 Uganda 2

  13. Sm  October 8, 2012 at 15:56

Its really a blow for Zambia without Kalaba the play maker. However, Zambia has massive talent and an alternative will be found and who knows God willing Kalaba may recover before the period that the Doctors have predicted .Mind you Doctors are human and can never be absolute they just estmate.Go Zambia go

  14. Uncle Pex  October 8, 2012 at 15:43

Thats why a team is comprised of 18 players. Why should we start crying for one rainford kalaba? what of the other players? Lets just go and play and not come up with excuses. No one player is bigger than the team or is he? We are waiting to see what herve renard will do or he will be fired again because of uganda

  15. the eye  October 8, 2012 at 15:41

they should not complain its a tactic to make uganda happy wait he is playing

clifford is the answer to the mid problem……

  18. Anti UPND Diehard  October 8, 2012 at 15:24

Renard should consider all Zambia players irrespective of the differences he has with them e.g. Clifford, Mbesuma etc. If he chooses his ego ethos above the team, he will make the nation pay, very dearly and set a very bad record: Zambia wins Afcon and fails to defend it after just a year! or the shortest serving afcon champion in history ever!

  19. chikola joseph  October 8, 2012 at 15:17

Go African champs go,we ar behind u guys.Kalaba, hav a quick recovery.Ba FAZ,plse call Cliford for represment twapapata or else dont dare give us excuses like ba under-20’s humiliation plse.

Mweene, nkausu, mbola, himoonde, sunzu, chansa, lungu, sinkala, mayuka, sakuwaha and katongo C.Hahahahahahaha apya yuggandya

  21. Kaponya and Ukwa  October 8, 2012 at 14:40

Zambia Inaluza Kale. We are waiting for confirmation. The problem is that our team and FAZ have become political making it difficult for some of us to continue supporting a PF team. All the achievements that the team brought last year were accredited to the part. Kalaba is injured, let PF find a replacement. Remember in Angola(Afcon) when Kalaba picked an injury, it was Christmas for for our opponents.

  22. Munkolo boy  October 8, 2012 at 14:27

Good wishes Kalaba. We will miss you in this game.
As a christian nation we need to forgive and forget all wrong doings against each other. How long shall FAZ who the wrongs of Clifford Mulenga???? Why not reconciling????
If Renard is not a christian, please you who are near him introduce him to Jesus. He will change him. Tell him Zambia is for God first, then these others things like football. Christians forgive…

  23. MASTER'S VOICE  October 8, 2012 at 14:23

LETS HAV CONFIDENCE IN OTHER BOYS WHO MAKE THE LINEUP I AM CERTAIN WE ARE GOING TO KOCKOUT THE CRANES. WE STILL HAVE AN ADVANTAGE OVER THEM. CHIPOLOPOLO DOES BETTER WHEN YOU DONT EXPECT THEM TO DELIVER. THE CRANES COACH WILL HAVE TO SHADE TEARS AT THE END OF THE GAME HE THINKS ZAMBIA IS A PUSHOVER.

  24. Mapesho  October 8, 2012 at 13:59

Too bad 4 soccer lovers like me , hopn Clifford z called 2 replace him. With or without Kalaba we nid 2 qualify at all cost

  38. OH YES  October 8, 2012 at 12:04

Get CLIFORD MULENGA with immediate effect.

    • M'BITA  October 8, 2012 at 12:58

Yes, I agree with you. Please Renard!

      • wall  October 8, 2012 at 13:37

Can someone send this passionate appeal to Renard. National team call up should be based on current form. There should not be permanent places-look at England National team always dynamic. I dont understand why Clifford and Mbesuma should be punished forever at the expense of greater Zambia, while players like Chamanga, felix who are not convincing are always in the team. Please make a decision before its too late.
