Kuomboka raises tension among Lozis

Tension has mounted among the Lozis of Western Province following the announcement of the Kuomboka ceremony of the Lozi people slated for April 20.

Reports from Mongu say that people were not ready for the ceremony, and could not celebrate when there are many issues that remained unresolved, such the breaking away from Zambia

And a group of people in the area were holding private meetings on a number of issues affecting the area.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Linyungandambo secretary Ilukena Mukubesa expressed worry that people wanted to take advantage of the situation in WesternProvince for their own personal benefit.

Mr Mukubesa charged that the people of Barotseland were not ready for the ceremony because of the anxiety and fear that had arisen.

He explained that the issue of Barotseland had left much to be desired, and as a result people were not happy.

“We would not like to see people lose lives here, people are not happy with what is going on, and we are aware that people want to bring confusion during the ceremony. We really don’t want confusion in the area,” he said.

Mr Mukubesa said the victimisation and intimidation of the people of WesternProvince had raised tension that had left the people of Barotseland with fear.

But sources in Limulunga have disclosed that the ceremony might be called off because many people close to the royal family were against it.

The source further stated that the date for the ceremony was meant to blindfold people.

“It is really difficult to have Kuomboka and even the royal establishment knows that. Ever since in the history of the Lozi the ceremony has never been held this late.  Even the water levels have gone down, what more in three weeks time,” the source said.

CONTINUE NOT HOLDING YOUR PADDLING CEREMONY.THAT IS THE END OF YOU BEING NOTICED.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT OF A MAN KING WHO WEARS DRESSES. NOT PROUD OF HIS SEX. PUT THE NEXT LITUNGA TO BE A WOMAN AND LOZIS WILL START THINKING PROPERLY AND DEVELOPMENT WILL RUSH TO WESTERN PROVINCE LIKE A TSUNAMI.

THEN A TONGA/NGONI/BEMBA BULL WILL COME AND MARRY YOUR QUEEN SO THAT THERE IS CHANGE OF THINKING IN NEXT GENERATIONS.

This amounts to a serious loss of business, this ceremony is well known to be a money spinner prices in Mongu rising tenfold…kinda smacks of the Egyptian Uprising…political tension no good for tourism.

HOW CAN THESE PEOPLE EXPECT TO HAVE THEIR KUOMBOKA, WHO ARE THEY GOING TO PADDLE? A TRAITOR LITUNGA OR SOMEONE ELSE? MWAZI GONG’A MWEKA FOR PUTTING A SPINELESS MONEY MONGER AS A LITUNGA

  4. Opash Perez  April 7, 2013 at 19:59

What benefit does the so called kuomboka have on individuals any way? a chief in a british security guard uniform?

  5. Kay  April 7, 2013 at 19:50

You have a good traitor in Mumembe who managed to sell you off to Ukwa. They Lied to you about ‘restoring the BRE’ when it was convenient, you voted and they laughed at you when it was time to fulfil the promise.

I used to think these people were very intelligent but my opinion changed during the last presidential compaign. They where told awhite lie, so big like a mountain, and yet the chose to believe in the hope of their Barotseland. I tell you not even your Gods will hear you nor pitty your anguish over this issue, for your foolishness and deliberate blindness was an insult to your ancestors. You shal eat the mud of the Zambezi until you realise your error.

The same goes for this nation that still does not realise its error, celebrating that God heed their prayers for this pf, and now the same are choking and cursing. Don’t you all know that God does not delight himself in fools. Didn’t you speak in the name of God, and now with the same mouth you are curssing what you prophesied to yourself as Gods Choice. Are you then mocking God. He has seen your foolishness and your luck of His reverance, you will not prosper but you will hunger until you realise your error.

let them make kuomboka at their own risk. we know that there is no basis for kuomboka either this year or next year. for what?
it is only for grz to show to the tourism conference that they have something to offer. why can’t they use chitimukulu, or mpezeni, or even the nyau dancers . we shall deal with anyone who holds kuomboka because it is a vailess issue that dies not please us lozis anymore.
litunga does not even live in lealui for him to omboka. and these grz people, they think after what they did to us, they can come and sit their buttocks in the nalikwanda and then we paddle them?
    hahahahahahahahahaahahahaahahahahahahahaaahaaahahahah

The Malozi’s 20th Century history is a tragedy and a paradox of logic. They surrendered Bulozi an area that covered swaths of land to as far as the borders of Katanga in the north and Livingstone in the south, to the British, for what? All in the name of being “protected” against who? Against the Litunga’s own internal enemies who conducted Palace coups often. The Litunga was given this “protection” by the British and also won himself a bizarre wearing apparel of a British colonial Admiral. Enter 1964. As a result of this people’s dependence syndrome, Kaunda duped them again by relinquishing their sovereignty for yet another promise of “protection”. And yet again their “king” won a position as Member of Central committee of UNIP. The Balozi’s worst enemy is themselves. Tongas, Luvales, Lundas have tried to support their numerous complex causes, but receive snubs and discrimination because “we are a royal tribe”. They supported Sata willy nillily and he sent commandos and fighter jets to intimidate them. This was despite the fact that politicians like HH begged them to open their eyes, but to no avail. We are tired of their wimperings. Let them paddle their Nalikwanda to heaven knows where!

Malozi kilyanganu, with your Wina woman as PF Chairperson just for window dressing. Shes comfortable with an under weight Ministry to keep her quiete shes is a sellout. Malozi, wake up bana bahesu mangete aki bakubapalela. Whenever there are issues there they send sell outs like Kabimba, Wina & others. Look at what they did to Lubinda, setting Kabimba to sort him out. Teaches you a lesson & you are still voting for them. You will see out come in Lukulu!

  14. LOOZII  April 7, 2013 at 14:46

Us Lozis are not fools. We brought about the being of this Nation Zambia while you were busy with CHACHACHA by signing agreemnt. Kuomboka has never been a political issue and will never be. What has become political is the actual ceremony and not the kuomboka(movement from the lower to the upper lands). Lozis are the ones in the flood waters, plains. We will move to the upper land whether with or without a ceremony. The fact that we are not as talkative, as our Tonga brothers have become of recent, does not mean we are fools. Please stop insulting us the Lozis.

  15. rev.masipa  April 7, 2013 at 12:58

let these mappets continue being used by sata, malozi you are ,useful idiots, you rejected your own brother HH for a munyukunyuku who is now ordering guns to point at you. you asked for it so endure it till 2016, assuming you will have come to your senses

  16. Skeleton  April 7, 2013 at 12:53

You can take a Lozi away from Barotseland but you can not take Barotseland away from a Lozi.

  18. The Servant  April 7, 2013 at 12:08

The lozis, the Lozis, aah the Lozis!!!!They have already forgotten the ill treatment by PF. What about their imprisoned friends, are they out from prisons now? Aah the Lozis, they are brave but disorganised people. They cant even support HH who can do a lot for them in province.

  19. Namusunga  April 7, 2013 at 12:03

Kuomboka is not about the Litunga only others also on the same day will leave the Barotse flood plain if at all it is flooded. The Litunga from time imemorial has been siding with his people and not the foreiners mangete. The Litunga is now in between to support his people what they want or side with the wishes of the Government.Realy the Litunga has to make a bold decision.

  20. Muchende  April 7, 2013 at 11:54

What an ABORMINATION 4 pipo 2 forgoe kuomboka. Nkandu Luo and Sata shall be held responsible. This is TABOO-aaaaaaaaa, Mongu voted 4 PF, I had forgoten. Its up 2 U lozies

  21. Nelson Chola  April 7, 2013 at 11:52

The drummers have refused to play for Litunga and without the drums, the Lozi chief Litunga can not move.

The problems are only in Limulunga not the whole Western Province. This is a Lozi problem only, the rest of non Lozi but natives of WP are ok.

  22. Gundown  April 7, 2013 at 11:27

There is no Kuomboka as long as the issue of BA1964 is not addressed.

  25. Santiago  April 7, 2013 at 10:56

There is No need to protest by boycotting our normal well treasured ceremony. Tell Plot one to simply redirect development from Muchinga to Limulunga or else, start punishing them by voting otherwise in Lukulu.

    waiting for action in Lukulu

You seem to have lost it you guys!
We had thought you had a good cause to fight for your rights but you turned the whole issue into politics. Your leader is selfish and may make it difficult for you to win this fight. Take care of your Litunga or else you have lost it!
