Lusaka has two million Kilograms of uncollected garbage

Lusaka City Council Director of Public Health Amos Musonda says Lusaka province has 4, 000,000 Kilogram’s of garbage waste in Lusaka province alone.
Speaking at the handover ceremony of 15 trash bins donated by Longacres Lions Club of Lusaka at Lusaka Girls Basic School in Lusaka on Wednesday, Mr Musonda said out of the 4, 000, 000 waste garbage, only 50% of it is collected.

Mr Musonda further disclosed that LCC spends about K1 billion every month in garbage collection within Lusaka.
He said LCC is privileged to receive the waste bins from Longacres Lions Club and further urged pupils at Lusaka Girls School not to adopt a bad behaviour of throwing litter anyhow because they are the agents of change.

  5. Grace of God  March 8, 2012 at 20:41

@meinz you are the fool. Garbage is an ideal breeding ground for diseases. The last thing we need is to have diseases spreading and people falling sick.

  6. meinz  March 8, 2012 at 20:32

To all you PF haters: its easy to sit next to a computer and pass judgments. Hopeless fools.

Ask state house to release the few monkeys that have survived from the state pot so that they help LCC and PF cadres to clear it up

  10. masonry  March 8, 2012 at 15:43

@critic: your humor and logic disgust me. Just because a little garbage was left uncollected you managed to conclude that the addition of garbage equals to PF. If i take the derivative of this equation you will find that PF = nothing. So go back to your mother toilet.

Do not expect any thing good from liers and cadres. Winter Kabimba left the garbage and he expected MMD to clain it for him. No way pick it up or lose votes over the same garbage. After all you a already a garbage as you have proved to be very useless.

  13. DZ  March 8, 2012 at 09:56

And where are the billions which were promised to councils in the budget? I hoped you have not realigned them to the Commissions. Councils are really struggling, pot holes everywhere in places apart from Lusaka, living as though we were in the Congo. Do something please ba PF, remember those good old days when everything was running smoothly in the 70’s?

  14. wamu  March 8, 2012 at 09:16

AND THE DRAMA OF PE THEATRE GROUP CONTINUES,WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT ZAMBIA HAS BEEN SOLD TO PF AS A COMMISSION OF INQUIRY IS BEING INSTITUTED ON HOW MUCH GABBAGE THE MMD STOLE WHEN THEY WERE IN GOVERNMENT.THIS GOVERNMENT IS A SHAME,WE HOPE NEVERS WILL DO A GOOD JOB,WE AS ZAMBIANS HAVE STARTED PREPARING TO VOTE SATA OUT,RB MUST FORGIVE US YOU TOLD US BUT WE DIDNT LISTEN,THE PROBLEM WAS PEOPLE LIKE DORA,MUTETEKA,PETER DAKA,RONNIIE ,ELVIS NKANDU.GEORGE LUNGU THAT SURROUNDED YOU,WE WANTED TO TEACH THEM A LESSON,WE PUT FIRE ON OUR FEETS,NOW LOOK AT THE CONFUSION OF STREET VENDING.WHAT A SHAME,OTHER COUNTRIES ARE DEVELOPING.WE ARE GOING BACKWARDS,IS THIS A CURSED COUNTRY KANSHI? 17. chiba  March 8, 2012 at 07:42

You chaps who were claiming that the watchdog was lying on ZNBC boss’s removal should now be ashamed that Shamenda has announced Chibamba Kanyama as new boss

  18. kopala  March 8, 2012 at 07:40

Kigali is the cleanest capital as though it wasn’t affected by the war, Maj Gen Paul kagame gets off his car to pick up litter. I wonder if ours can even do it, he would rather just close his eyes and cover his nose as he is chauffeured to wherever he goes.

  19. Zigler  March 8, 2012 at 07:26

Resources spent on calculating the volumes of rubbish could have been spent on collecting part of it.

  20. Seed Inspector  March 8, 2012 at 07:25

Don’t just give us the statistics of how much litter you boost of having in Lusaka. Give us also your action plan instead of lecturing those innocent young girls.lusaka is the dirtiest town in the country. I would rather be in Mkushi than Lusaka.

  27. MuKabene  March 8, 2012 at 05:12

Don’t worry, they will re-base the zeros on the amount of uncollected garbage!

  28. Sondongo  March 8, 2012 at 04:24

Lusaka is the dirtiest city in Africa. Oh my foot! Sata has contributed to it by legalizing street vending. why start lecturing little kids whose litter can’t be compared to the liter found along chachacha road. go and tell Sata to remove the people from the streets. our councils are also toothless and function like headless chickens.

  34. Chilufya Kaputu  March 7, 2012 at 22:52

Why dont they just rebase the amount of garbage and remove the zeros?

  35. Lumbwe  March 7, 2012 at 22:25

This would be a story if there was some deliberate effort to collect it, now they are simply informing us how much it has reached.

And that is why they should only tell us whn it gets to landmark weights say every 2 million kgs, if it comes up too often adjust it to every 3 million kg and so on and so forth

  36. Lumbwe  March 7, 2012 at 22:22

Right, just remind me when it reaches 4 million kg. thank you

  39. kaponya  March 7, 2012 at 21:44

Its imporntant really for all of us to be responsible citizen. There is no single council which can manage wastes alone. Everyone should be involved and be concerned. its the spirit which has helped the few councils which are doing well world wide. after role, we are all stakeholders to la. Lets emurate longacres!
