MMD will petition Mufumbwe – Nevers Mumba

The MMD will petition the election of playboy Steven Masumba as MP for Mufumbwe, party president Nevers Mumba has announced.

And the MMD leader says in the past 15 years he has been in politics, he has never seen such a corrupt and immoral election like the one we just happened in Mufumbwe.

And Mumba says his party has never expelled any of its MPs for serving in the PF but that Masumba was expelled for gross indiscipline.

Pastor Mumba maintained that PF did not win the election in Mufumbwe and that Masumba’s purpoted winner will not improve his negative character.

And Mumba has revealed that president Michael Sata is the father of violence in Zambia.

Below if the full statement by the MMD leader

STATEMENT BY MOVEMENT FOR MULTIPARTY DEMOCRACY PRESIDENT NEVERS MUMBA, 14TH NOVEMBER 2012 AT THE MMD SECRETARIAT

Good morning members of the Press.

On November 8th 2012, the people of Mufumbwe constituency went to the polls to elect their Member of Parliament.  The purported result of this election is now history.  Mr. Masumba was declared winner of the election.

The MMD as the mother of multiparty democracy congratulated the PF, but reserved the right to question the legitimacy of the election.

Before I state the official position of the party on the just ended by-election, I wish to take this opportunity to commend the gallant foot soldiers of our party who worked so hard and so effectively during the campaign.  I am so proud of each one of them.  I also wish to congratulate our colleagues, the UPND for the relentless support they provided during the campaign.  Our NEC Members and MPs who joined us in Mufumbwe and those who donated their money and vehicles.  This last election was a great show of unity and strength for the MMD.  I consider it as a great honour to preside over such a determined political party.  Our Secretariat staff worked so hard to ensure that human resource was mobilized to put up a good fight.  I congratulate and salute all of you that fought with us.

I have been involved in the political process for the past fifteen years.  During this time I have served as a leader in the opposition and also as Vice President of Zambia in the MMD.  In both camps, I have campaigned in several by-elections.  Never in my fifteen year history have I ever been part of such a corrupt and immoral election like the one we just had in Mufumbwe.  As a Party, we are shocked that the ECZ can even announce those results knowing very well that the PF did not win that election.

We have since written to the ECZ expressing our shock that they deliberately overlooked the glaring irregularities in the Mufumbwe by-election.

It was a foregone conclusion that the PF had lost the election prior to voting day.  The people of Mufumbwe understood that PF has no interest in the North Western Province.  They are aware of the insults that President Sata hurled on them as a people.  His lack of respect for leaders from the Province to the extent that PF is the first government since independence which has not given any Cabinet position to the people of Northwestern Province.  Further to this dark picture, President Sata came to Mufumbwe to campaign, but only to intimidate and break electoral regulations.  President Sata clearly stated, and I quote, “If you don’t vote for Masumba and PF, we shall bring no development here…..”  There is a precedent where one of the MMD MPs made a similar statement and the seat was nullified.  What the President said was just one of the many illegalities that the ECZ have condoned.

During the 48 hours prior to voting, the PF party moved in and distributed money with impunity.  At all Polling Stations, Streets and Markets and we have some of the footage.  They further intimidated our members through violence, by beating up our members as they brandished their pistols claiming to be boma.  Fourteen of our campaigners were first tear gassed in a vehicle, then beaten and the double cab they were using was physically overturned by PF operatives.  We are convinced that the Police worked with the PF thugs, because tear gas is only a preserve of the Police.

In view of the above and many other fraudulent acts by PF to win the election through hook or crook, our Party intends to petition the just ended Mufumbwe by-election, once the Provincial report is received.  We have vowed to give licence to PF to continue abusing democracy and destroying anything civil in the running of elections.  The final decision to petition shall be made before the end of this week.  We need answers from the ECZ.  It appears to us that the ECZ wishes to suspend all electoral rules in order to allow PF to win elections.  We must reach an agreement with ECZ, to either legalise vote buying or insist that e all abide by the electoral rules.  We must talk with ECZ and reach consensus.  If PF can do it, we shall also do it.  When the Police torture, beat and brutalise our members, we shall also propose to parallel Police which shall serve to protect our members during future by-elections.  In the next by-election, we shall not play by rules that only serve one party.  We shall play by the rules that are respected by all parties, and the ECZ must take responsibility to ensure this happens.  The Police in Mufumbwe under the command of Commissioner Sibote was the worst outfit of Police’s behaviour I have ever witnessed.  The Commissioner was on a rampage to arrest anyone from MMD and tortured them.  We have all the evidence.  He was the leader of the “torture team.”  He personally continued to step on the stomach of our Provincial Secretary against shouts from our members who were advising Mr. Sibote, that their colleague had an operation on the same spot he was stepping on.  The Commissioners response was a laugh, saying, “I think this operation was for drugs.”  The police failed in their duties, and we have written to the Inspector General of Police to demand that Commissioner Sibote accounts for his brutal and partisan behavior.

THE QUESTION OF VIOLENCE

Violence in Zambian politics has its roots in President Michael Sata.  He is the one who introduced pangas in Chawama, and other weapons.  President Sata led the squads when he was National Secretary of MMD and he has continued to do it from State House.  The Bible says “You shall know them by their fruit,” President Sata accused me of being violent and turning MMD into a violent party.

Who between us is violent?  Whose history between us supports the violent tag.  Can Mr. Sata point to any violent incident carried out by myself or those I could have sent?  From the time I took over as President, I am not aware of any act of violence on the past of MMD except in self defence.

Mr. Sata commanded the Chawama violent troops which left most of its victims lame up to this day.

In Rufunsa Local Government election, Mr. Sata accused MMD and UPND of having killed a PF cadre, when he knows that the killing happened within the PF circles as they fought for money.  MMD regrets any loss of life, whether PF or MMD.  We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of the deceased.

I challenge the police to stop harassing our members – we have several of our members locked up in cells as a cover-up to the brutal activities of PF cadres themselves.  We demand that they be released as they were nowhere near the incidence.  We further demand that a commission of enquiry be set up to ascertain the cause of the violence.  This is important for future elections.  PF is responsible for the loss of life in Rufunsa.  In both Mufumbwe and Rufunsa only MMD Members are arrested and no PF member has been questioned for anything.

MPS SERVING IN THE PF GOVERNMENT

MMD has never expelled any of our MPs for serving as deputy ministers in the PF government.  Mr. Masumba was expelled for gross-indiscipline, and our party stand proud that we can uphold the tenets of good behavior for those serving the Zambian people.  His purported victory does not improve his character; to the contrary, it shall only enhance his bad character.  We are aware that Mr. Sata has advised our MPs working in his government to resign and join the PF.  This justifies my earlier assertion that Mr. Sata does not mean well for democracy.  He wants to entice our MPs by lying to them, and then demand that they resign from MMD and create by-elections which shall cost the tax payers not less than K32 billion.  This is the type of man we are dealing with.

May I assure our membership and all Zambians that if PF dares us by corrupting our members into resigning, we are ready to defend our constituencies.  PF should not be fooled by their stolen election in Mufumbwe – we shall ensure that, what happened in Mufumbwe is not repeated anywhere.  We are ready for the fight for democracy on behalf of the Zambian people.

The final position of our party on the MPs serving in the PF government shall be determined after the NEC receives the Situmbeko Musokotwane led Adhoc Committee on the same.

MESSAGE TO OUR MEMBERS

The irregular loss of the Mufumbwe by-election is just a battle lost, but we shall win the war at the end.  MMD still remains the strongest and biggest party in the nation with structures spread out throughout the nation.  It is non-tribal and commands a national outlook.  Each experience, good or bad is bringing us closer to the goal or assuming power once again.  I will soon be on the road on my first national “New Hope” tour.  This is to adequately prepare the party for the next general election.

I thank you.

The Political Landscape in Zambia will return to normal when all the insolent old folks are out of the Zambian politics. Zambia has a bright future but without these former police constables running the affairs of our great nation. ” More Corrupt than the word corruption itself” came from a man who knew them well. Zambia you shall be saved.

Pastor, go back to your church this game will bruise your character. You call yourself pastor, and
Yet you continue buying panga and male genii for youths to fight. In the name of defending yourself, in 1995 you said and I quote ” being elected to a public of as president for is a demotion because I am servant of god I can’t think so low” why are you now thinking so low? Stop lies if you are true servant repent and go back to victory ministries before you finish yourself.

It is ok for PF to petition all MMD seats, but it is not ok for MMD to petition the election of Masumba. Iam really shocked to hear this kind of argument. The point here is that PF wants to reduce the number of opposition MPs in Parliament so that they pass useless bills. Even the MMD MPs that are serving in PF government cannot eat with both hands, they should be kicked out. It is better to have 10 loyal MPs than have 30 or so who are not loyal to their party.

Please petition so that some evidence of corrupt practices are brought to light. The truth shall set us free.

My advice to PastorMumba is forget about the Masumba re-election.Just accept defeat. Dont fall into PF trap by expelling your MPs. Allow the PF to use your MPs – that would be an admission by PF that it does not have credible leaders among its ranks. It would be a very foolish MP who will opt to resign from MMD when his party has not expelled him.

I cant waste time listening to that “empty tin” Nevers. The “mad on God ” is so sull that he couldn’t even read that MMD is too week to win a election but he goes on to pyana it. You have to be dull to think that PF will lose elections even in 2016. Firstly, you have no credible opposition…………the only one claiming popularity only has support in one province and they have got nothing to criticize govt about which is so far doing well. The only thing they can do is preach tribalism on the internet which has also not helped coz pipo aren’t interested. Hence resorting to insults……………
