President Michael Sata’s son and Lusaka City Deputy Mayor Mulenga Sata and his close friends are behind the scandalous supply of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) equipment to the Zambian government at an inflated amount of US$210 million instead of US $13 million.
Sources within the government circles have told the Zambian Watchdog that Mulenga’s friend Derrick Mpundu is behind the deal in collaboration with a Chinese Company ZTE that is believed to have been rewarded despite unsuccessfully providing equipment for the blocking of the Zambian Watchdog.
The sources said Derrick Mpundu together with Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo who is President Sata’s nephew are using a Kitwe based engineering company called Stalwart Engineering Limited.
The sources say it is the same group that is also involved with another Chinese Company that has been contracted to supply the Digital Migration equipment. On the digital migration equipment, Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga is heavily involved.
Zambian Watchdog is also following up reports of serious plunder at the Ministry of Tourism as regards to awards of contracts towards the just ended United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). Look towards to reading it.
