Namulambe’s resignation; my view

By James Mwape

One of the most painful experiences in my life is when I have a look at the (in) equality of the politicians whom we have entrusted to guide us as a nation. A typical case in point is the resignation of Mpongwe MP Honourable Gabriel   Namulambe from MMD to PF.

First and foremost I do appreciate that he has the right to join any party of his choice. No one can take that from him. Nevertheless, what annoys me is the quality of reasoning behind the resignation. It does not reflect the character of a person who deserves to be an MP or cabinet minister at all. It is no wonder that despite all the resources that Zambia has been endowed with, development is so elusive because of failure by our leaders to articulate issues clearly.
I do appreciate that MMD has got its own problems but as a member of NEC has he tried to solve those problems with his colleagues in NEC? If he says he does not agree with the dictatorial tendencies of Dr Nevers Mumba, does he agree with the dictatorial tendencies in PF? MMD has all its leaders duly elected at conventions. How many leaders in PF are democratically elected? If at all PF has held any convention in its more than ten years of its existence, then may someone remind me.
Does he agree with the way Judge Ngoma attacked Sam Zulu at a hotel in Lusaka? Today Judge Ngoma has been given a presidential pardon and rewarded with a job. The simple interpretation to this is that the appointing authority (Mr Sata) condones hooliganism.
The Chawama saga is still fresh in our minds. Does he agree to that as well, considering that he knows who the architect of that barbaric saga is?
Does he agree with the way Hakainde Hichilema is being treated? For a president of a third biggest political party in the land to be denied a permit to host a rally is not what democracy entails.
Does he agree with the arrest of Dr Nevers Mumba and company for those silly charges?
Does he agree with having a president who goes to National Assembly and reduces it to Lusaka Play House? Comedians like Ukwa, late Sauzande and  Maximo, Bob Nkosha and the rest do so because they have chosen to be comedians. I want to believe that given an opportunity to hold any high profile office, the above mentioned people would certainly shed off the comic image and adopt one that suits the office.
Does he agree with the idea of winning elections on fake promises? A very good example is the Barotseland Agreement which he promised to honour ‘within 90 days’. Today, more than one year after assuming office, unemployment levels are still high.
The last time we queued for mealie meal was in 1990. Today we are seeing shortages of the commodity. Does he agree to that as well?
There is no written agreement that the people of Lambaland should never belong to the opposition. If at all they belonged to the ruling party for the past 48 years it is just that they chose to vote for the ruling party. There is no harm in belonging to the opposition in any civilized democracy. Development ought not to follow people because they patronise the ruling party but because they are citizens of that country and are therefore entitled to it, Period.
I would have love d to go and on, but I will choose to end here. In the meantime, I wish Namulambe an enjoyable stay in the PF.

Great article,I hope Mr Namulambe and his PF friends read it. I think Democracy is for Europeans not Africans.

We have no problem with Namulambe joining the PF but we have a problem with the way Namulambe defected from MMD TO PF .Surely cant Namulambe just move on to PF without saying ill things about his former party? Namulambe seems not to be real because he is not even PF because he has no PF party card that shows that he is PF. How does PF KNOW OR ACCOUNT FOR ITS MEMBERSHIP WHEN THEY HAVE NO PARTY CARDS NOR ANY FORM OF PARTY MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION? This is why when all these people like Namulambe will begin defecting from PF the top PF party officials will not realise because the party leadership does not know its membership. Moreover Namulumbe in his statement yesterday sounded that he is still MMD because he kept saying that as MMD we owe Bank of Zambia. How can Namulambe in his statement say we(MMD) owe Bank of Zambia when he is giving a defection statement i dont whether it was a speech because it did sound like a speech.Namulambe is still MMD.Such tricks will never work, very soon you will see him moving to another political party when hooliganism begin to haunt him. He has chosen to dine with hooligans and not gentlemen.Bamuselela kwa kaba. He is not real this chap he wants to waste tax payers money our money on bye elections .Lets say no zambians .Lets say no to this Bye Elections nosense .

Namulambe shuold not be voted for, masumba should return the paper to NIP

  6. Mufana Wamahafu  December 14, 2012 at 14:18

The real reason why Namulambe quit is to avoid jail. Masumba quit to avoid jail. Sata political career has always been like that-blackmailing. THE FACT IS THAT NO INTELLIGENT OR RIGHT THINKING ZAMBIAN CAN AGREE TO WORK WITH SATA. You just have to look at his cabinet, associates and supporters.

Yes, whatever happened mr Chisanga must come back and HH must humble himself to accommodate such people if things are to move in the opposition camp.So mr Chisanga please come out of poltical hibernation, your services are highly needed now.

Pipo i think blaming namulambe 4 joining pf wont solve any problem.Lets look it at both side nevers has failed 2 run and organise a party, let him sit down with all his members and solve the problems which the mmd is facing.

    • Ntweno  December 14, 2012 at 13:26

Namulambe is there to avoid prison. Remember he stole bicycles. Let us now see what happens to the case now that he is in the “ALLERGIC to CORRUPTION” camp.

    • soko  December 14, 2012 at 13:36

Ezron, Nevers has not failed. The Zambian mentality is to continue serving themselves when in politics. Nevers was democratic elected by the party electorates. The fact that some people like Namulambe and Kachingwe want crumbs from the PF table does not mean Nevers has failed. People will always differ in opinions in a club like a political party. They will call each other names but that does not mean failure. PF Kabimba, GBM and now Lubinda are in bitter war of words. Does this mean PF has failed? Should we call Mr Sata to step down? No No No. MMD will cleanse itself and will move on. This party was formed by people who saw the suffering under UNIP. They wanted to stop shortages of essential commodities, queues, one party rule, transport shortages. Until last year under the MMD rule – these things went away. But we are seeing them coming back! PLEASE GIVE MUMBA A CHANCE to CLEANSE the party of people without principles. Ask Govt – why they are persecuting Mumba. The govt know better than we do who Nevers is and what he is capable of doing. Even in homes people fight especially if the head of the house is no more!

  11. PF Cadre  December 14, 2012 at 11:26

A well thought article. I for one do not think Namulambe believes in either MMD, PF, UPND or name them all. He just believes in his stomach. Look at a person like Masebo, Munkombwe and the long list of these political prostitutes, they embraced UNIP, when UNIP was gone they embraced MMD, when MMD is gone now it is PF. When PF is kicked in 2016 we shall all see how they will embrace UPND if it will come to power. surely as Zambians do we address these prostitutes to be patriots

    • jasman fosholo  December 14, 2012 at 13:39

UPND will never rule Zambia, so don’t ever think of it to rule. It just looks to be atribal party and the leading does not impress me at all. He always seems to be serious, no smiles at all. Shame

      • Bob  December 14, 2012 at 14:06

What is there to smile about when people are queuing for mealie meal after successive bumper harvests? Youths still have no jobs and no money in the pocket and there is no tangible plan for employment creation. What is there to smile about? You seem to be one of the comedians who don’t know when to joke and to be serious. You sound very much like you hate HH becuase of tribalism and yet you want to paste tribalism on him! Remove the speck in your eye and you will see better the speck in your brother’s eye.

  13. Mubanga  December 14, 2012 at 11:13

Thanks Mwape for your views. Indeed it just means that Namulambe supports everything about PF and Sata! Surely, he is not thinking about people of Zambia at large by causing an unnecessary bye-election. He is a big disappointment to all of us!

  14. Homestead  December 14, 2012 at 10:40

Sata is Garbage. Its shameful to introduce myself as Zambian to other
people of different nationalities.” You come from a country whose head of state is comedian and dictator”.

  16. Master  December 14, 2012 at 10:26

Well articulated .thank you very much but my biggest worry is how do we educate the people not to vote for this fools?

    • kings  December 14, 2012 at 13:41

That is the big question. On that score,do you think democracy is worth all the weight it is given? Not in Africa.

  17. king fisher  December 14, 2012 at 10:26

The only solution to this is not to vote for Gab.
