NAREP to contest Mpongwe bye-election, welcomes Kwacha rebasing

Opposition National Restoration Party (NAREP) president Elias Chipimo Junior has said the rebasing of the Kwacha will boost foreign and local confidence in the economy of Zambia.

Mr. Chipimo however said government should have a consistent, transparent and clear policy direction in order for the rebasing of the Kwacha to have meaningful impact

He was speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka today.

Mr. Chipimo said rebasing of the Kwacha was costly hence the need to have stability in the government’s affairs.

He said the frequent reshuffling of ministers, deportation of foreigners, statutory instruments on trading only in Kwacha and the manner in which the minimum wage was introduced were suggesting instability in government affairs.

And Mr. Chipimo has said his party will contest the Mpongwe by-election even though such polls could have been avoided if political parties had put their houses in order.

And The Press Association of Zambia (PAZA) Executive Secretary Patson Phiri commended the media for the role it playing in the Kwacha rebasing exercise.

Mr. Phiri said the citizens of Zambia were informed about the rebasing of the Kwacha through the media’s hard work and accurate information.

He reaffirmed the media’s importance in politics saying no campaign would be successful without the active participation and coverage by the media.

Narep and Chipimo are here to stay and make next government. The problem with most of you is that you just want politics of insults, name calling and cheap opposing. This is 21st Century and Zambian Politics need to change in the Direction Narep is going. Mr Chipimo stay focussed and use criticism as oil to lubriate your engine to government and plot one. Copperbelt is behind you.

This Narep guy is so full of himself and cudnt take his wife for Kuchipimo @ UTH.

Sorry our own leaders Chipimo,HH and his excellence Mr Micheal we love u all period.

  5. sharp  January 7, 2013 at 20:39

HOW OLD IS CHIPIMO? THE GUY LUKS VERY OLD AND POVERTY STRICKEN! WHY?

  6. Kays  January 7, 2013 at 20:23

NAREP is satellite of the PF. Its aim is to cause confusion in the opposition. Chipimo knows he can not win anything but his aim is to carry the PF message while appearing credible.

  8. Menyela  January 7, 2013 at 19:45

u’r right abt building the parties but ddnt u thnk selfishness has also characterised our political parties? MMD,UPND,NAREP and other opposition parties will share votes giving PF an advantage. Wish we had one strong opposition political party, but alas democracy is at its peak in our mother Zambia.

    • Howling Wofl  January 7, 2013 at 20:01

Indeed the splitting of votes may give PF a greater chance, and the fact that a party in government normally has an advantage in by-elections. However, the main problem for our nation is the presence of individuals among us that see it justifiable to support a failing party. I have always thought that a situation of three parties would eventually give us a health democracy. So I am looking forward to three parties establishing themselves for the future. In the meantime our problems will be with us for some time.

  9. Njekwa  January 7, 2013 at 19:16

I Dont think Chipimo could win any parliamentary seat in any part of zambia includind his own village. pipo are just giving false hopes to this boy

  10. Menyela  January 7, 2013 at 19:04

im not for Narep, noe i am for UPND. i knw most bloggers on this site are UPND sympathisers but my simple question is do you think UPND can win the mpongwe seat??? PF,MMD, UPND,NAREP are contesting. will UPND emerge victorious????

    • Howling Wofl  January 7, 2013 at 19:17

While wining the seat would be desirable, we must not lose sight of the importance of building parties thru these by-elections. This may be the only chance for opposition political parties to articulate issues to the electorate in Mpongwe given the inhibition achieved thru the Public Order Act. I would encourage them to go ahead with a view of building up for the real thing in a few years, or earlier if the Lord so wishes.

      • Menyela  January 7, 2013 at 19:36

i agree with you, build pipo’s confidence is wat these parties need to start doing. now at how votes will be split by the opposition.. UPND,MMD,NAREP will all share the votes giving an upper chance to PF. i think oppostion parties need to learn not to be selfish. The problem is that every leader of opposition thinks they can go to state house including Cosmo Mumba which is not da case….imagine if we had one opposition party what impact it wud have en the pressure it wud give to the ruling party, but alas democracy is at its peak in Zambia.

    • suggestor  January 7, 2013 at 19:20

You see its not always about winning its making ground, mpongwe might not be won by upnd(most likely) but if they can do better by getting numbers they prepare a good foundation for 2016. If you think there are upnd sympathizers here, its because currently its the only variable option among the opposition, mmd is dead, narep is a disgrace and sold out to pf, the rest need i say anything. who else is there?and pf is worst of all parties, the status quo cant continue for the good of this country.

  17. Dr. Savimbi  January 7, 2013 at 17:46

AT LEAST NAREP MAY BENEFIT FROM STATE COFFERS TO FINANCE THE MPONGWE POLLS IF THEY REQUEST IN ORDER TO DIVIDE VOTES TO THE ADVANTAGE OF FP. HOWEVER, NAREP PRESIDENT IS VERY INTELLIGENT AND CANT BE COMPARED TO SATA, KABIMBA, AND ALL DEFECTING MPs COMBINED.

This embryo has nothing much to offer.when things are bad and opposition need to stand firm for the people. He hides behind the curtain in popped up eyes like a weaned child. Where is he when his fellow oppositions are harrased by sata? Is he sharing a bird with him or he has been bought with so much that he is gone numb in the brain. Please this ka chipimo should spare us. Let him take his accented english to his household. Rubbish

Chipimo and Narep are just PF cadres. Is the money he collected from PF whilst in Brazil,Rio finished?
This cadre has nothing to say. Mr Sata give this man a job for he has been a loyal cadre to your party/PF.

  23. xyz  January 7, 2013 at 15:58

How is he going to campaign when he is so compromised by satana?

    • lubi  January 7, 2013 at 16:01

he will be sponsored by satana using the old currency

  24. The Coming  January 7, 2013 at 15:44

Narep’s Chipimo i hear is earmarked to take over from Sata and Winter seems not to be aware of this.
Chipimo has been contracted to stand bcoz other opposition parties have opted not to stand hence no vote spliting. But PF is worried that if opposition does not split the votes UPND will carry the day. This is how Chipimo was convinced to stand by the Powers that be.

Voters waste no time to vote for Cyborgs of PF they will offer no counter balance to the wrong decisions of the PF government

  25. Bukata  January 7, 2013 at 15:43

NAREP IS THE ONLY LIKEY ALTERNATIVE PART TO PF. MMD IS GONE, UPND HAS ALL THE HIGH POSITIONS OCCUPIED BY TONGAS WHICH MAKES IT A TRIBAL PART… FOR NOW ITS VIVA PF AND SATA ALL THE WAY, BUT PF SHOULD NOT SUSPEND LUBINDA.

PF SHOULD FIND A WAY OF GETTING RID OF KABIMBA, HE IS THE DIVING FIGURE IN THE MIGHT PF

  26. Ibu  January 7, 2013 at 15:39

Elias better leave the mpongwe polls for opposition. I say so because 2 him, pf has done a lot and I feel he won’t have any campaign message for mpongwe voters.

  27. Dylan Thomas  January 7, 2013 at 15:22

Chipimo Elias if u could only be genuine, you speak the same language as economic illiterates like sakeni and Chellah. Tell me what confidence does rebasing bring to the economy? If you want the economy to improve, export more goods than yapping.
If you could only stop dreaming that Sata will anoint you for president, yhen u could boadt your chances of becoming presido and seriously take on this PF. It might just be too late for you, because ULP, ADD, UPND & MMD might just form a formidable opposition to unseat PF.

  31. Mwape D  January 7, 2013 at 15:06

Someone educate me please!Does rebasing of a currency improve an economy of a country whose primary, secondary, tertiary and quartenary industries are infancing? The only route in this era in questing for both economic growth and development is by increasing primary production, add value to the raw materials and jerk-up secondary production. In the African context Govt should be doing business in business and promote class one mixed econmic production. Go back to govt controlled demonstration primary production such as farming, mining, aquaculturing and many others.
Anyway there seems to be light at the end of the tunne.

Attacking Chipimo will never make UPND any more popular. If Chipimo is irrelevant, leave that to the voters. The real enemy here is the pathetic PF government

      • suggestor  January 7, 2013 at 15:13

But thats exactly chipimo, we need him in the opposition yet he manages to deceive so many of u tell wat u see in him?to me he is as cheap as they come, no stance only good english which confuses the unschooled. its not attacking him its putting a mirror before him

      • tonto  January 7, 2013 at 17:39

We not attacking chipimo for upnd.we are doing so for people like you who do not what their problem is in this country. Atleast UPND has pulse narep is in coma

  35. WILLIAM K  January 7, 2013 at 14:25

CHIPIMO IS VERY ANALYTICAL AND ITELLIGENT IN THE WAY HE OPPOSES THIS GOVT. HE GIVES CREDIT WHERE IT IS DUE AND HE CRICIZES WHERE IT IS NECESSARY.

If you give a grade seven to address pre-schoolers, they will think its the most intelligent person talking, thats how chipimo convinces the easily gullible, but take time to really listen to him with real intelligence he offers nothing

    • lubi  January 7, 2013 at 15:59

thats what happens when you eat nsima with both hands. when it suits him…….even Nawakwi will only criticize pf to gain more allowances from satana. so she has been given together with that satanist frank bwalya- they are quietened- kwasila. dont bite the fingers that feeds u

    • tonto  January 7, 2013 at 17:51

That’s a lie chipimo has never been an intelligensia. Speaking good accented english does not qualify one to be intelligent. He is a lawyer so he claims why is he not practising. Do you know how many years he spent out there just to obtain just a single honorary.dullness is expensive ask his father how much he spent on him alone neglecting other children just pushing him to bring a name home not a shame. He is no near intelligent he is just exposed.
