The Planned Parenthood Association of Zambia (PPAZ) has called on government to come up with guidelines on how stakeholders in the country could tackle the problem of HIV and AIDS among groups of the same sex who engage in sexual activities.

PPZ Director of Programmes and Partnerships, Edford Mutuma, says the recent revelations by the National Aids Council during a  presentation in November this year that there is an increase of HIV and AIDS among men who have sex with other men in places such as prisons should be taken seriously.

Mr Mutuma said there is need to ensure access to reproductive health services is a right for everyone  without discrimination.

He said government and other stakeholders should ensure that modalities are drawn on how to handle groups such as homosexuals and lesbians who exist in Zambia but are living in fear to come out in the open.

Mr. Mutuma stated that as PPAZ it will continue respecting human rights and ensure that those who seek its services are not denied. He said the recent findings in the Zambia Demographic Health Survey of 2007 should be dealt with comprehensively.

Mr Mutuma said  the PPAZ has repositioned itself to meet the current needs of young people in the Zambia.

He said the organisation will now focus on offering comprehensive HIV and AIDS response programmes which would address issues of access and availability of contraceptives, male circumcision, youths and women.

Mr Mutuma also called on young people to take messages of HIV and AIDS seriously and be able to remain focused.

Meanwhile Saint Ambrose has embarked on programme to promote positive behaviour change among young people using football and other sports activities.

The NGO organized 32 youth groups to participate in a tournament dubbed “Never Give Up” Championship at Matanda Ground.

The competition saw the participation of girls under 12 and 18 years take part and boys under 10,15 and 20 years.

Project Coordinator, Serena Matteo, said the initiative is aimed at promoting behaviour change among youths so that they stay focused on their future.

Ms Matteo said the NGO will continue supporting such ventures when resources are available.

asking for guidlines from the goverment is very parrallel to advocacy. cause what i think he is trying to tell the govwerment is that how can we help those in groups of the same sex who engage in sexual activities? i think what we are supposed to be doing is show concern than flash out insults. so are we going to let our freind get sick and die on our concious? let us find a proper solution by contributing postively than abusing the inernet with insults.

Hey Guys, I think you are misinterpreting the article and the statement , all this guy is asking are guidelines to address the HIV situation being fueled by men who have sex with men.

@ Kapepa and everyone else: Just Google the word homosexual animals and you will find more than 1500 species ranging from mammals, birds, reptiles, insects and birds engagiing in same-sex activities. This includes: Dragon flies, bear, buffalo, domestic dog, cheetah, African Elephant, penguin and domestic chicken.

    Look for example at:

It is such a pity that we should be discussing these topics. However, I wish to urge those who do not wish to have these issues discussed to think twice. Look at it this way: There’s a guy who happens to be gay and practices unprotected sex with his gay friends and decides at some point to marry your sister, what level of HIV risk would your sister be facing?

While I do not encourage same sex sexual encounters/marriages, etc, I do accept such things do happen so we should put measures in place to protect the unsuspecting people like a woman in my example above. Its like churches that do not want to see the use of condoms. You see, not all believe in God and so part of our teaching may not reach everyone. If anything, we are protecting ourselves by ensuring that those that are “in the world” get to use that which we hate; the Condom because one day they will repent and will bring the virus to us.

A pro-active approach is the only way out and that should start by accepting the problem is there.

Nowadays dogs are even better than human beings in the eyes of the almighty God, because a male dog cannot whatsoever have sex with its fellow male dog, neither can a female dog enjoy sex with its fellow female… However, humans beings who were created in the image of the Lord of creations can freely do such immoral things without shame! God of heaven will punish humanity!!!

Edford, just for money you want to support men having sex with other men? Edford, can you have sex with another man? Edford, do you go to Church? Anway, I understand. This PPAZ ad closed down when President Bush refused to give money to Satanic activities like abortion which you support. Now that there is change of guard in Washington, and the people now running America suport all sorts of evil including anal sex by man to man, you people are back in business. To you its about money. You will do anything as long as it brings in money. But have you thought about your personal salvation? Ati director of programs? which programs? Ifi fine fya pamatako

PPAZ should stick to its primary vision and mission.

Just in case they hav forgotten what PPAZ stands for, here is what the accronyms stand for:
    Association of

Now, what have homosexuality and lesbianism got to do with Planned Parenthood?
This is how unnatural homosexuality and lesbianism are. They are Satan’s plot to exterminate the human race. We know people can now get “test-tube” babies on order, but that in itself is going contrary to nature unless there were genuine medical reasons for man and woman to achieve conception naturally.

This deliberate ignorance of God only enganders foolishness. For many who pretend God does not exist do so in order not to be responsible to the Most High God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Hve you ever considered Romans 1? If you have, go have another read; and may the Holy Spirit open your understanding.

So bwana PPAZ leave the major HIV/AIDS work to people whose genuine function it is. And of course you can coordinate with the National Aids Council and other bodies who are working with HIV/AIDS concerns so that you do not leave the issues of planned parenthood unattended.

i am surprised this gentleaman thinks he can regulate sex the same way banks are controlled. Zambia has laws that prohibit bestiality, so what else is he looking for?

  16. Mugabe  December 9, 2009 at 19:09

When I say gays are worse than dogs and pigs, I really mean it because pigs and dogs do not do unnatural things.

  17. Realist  December 9, 2009 at 19:07

Don’t engage in such practices, thats your guideline!

  18. kapepa  December 9, 2009 at 18:56

I think this tendency of importing foreign culture should not be entertained in Zambia. Its a shame that human beings in the name of human rights can start advocating for homosexuality and lesbianism in our country. Surely, even in animal kingdom we do not observe such kinds of abnormalities. Have anyone witness a hen climbing on a fellow hen? Can anyone narrate having witness a bull on top of a bull? We need to let this type of neurosis remain in the western world. For God’s sake we are not weird, we are africans!

  19. Mongu resident  December 9, 2009 at 18:41

Zambia is a christian nation, no guidlines to be provided since we don’t encourage such vices.
