RB pardons man who insulted him as police caution Frank Bwalya
President Rupiah Banda has pardoned Darius Mukuku, the man who was imprisoned 18 months for insulting him a few months ago. But police on the Copperbelt are pursuing Frank Bwalya on a charge of defaming president Banda.
President Banda has also pardoned 349 other prisoners as part of the African Freedom day celebrations which fall on 25 May.
President Banda has ordered the Minister of Home Affairs to remit in whole the sentence slapped on Mukuku by Ndola Magistrate Court on March 18, 2010.
Mukuka is currently serving 18 month imprisonment at Kanseshi State Prison in Ndola.
“I have signed the Order of Release for the 350 prisoners,” President Banda in a letter to the Minister of Home Affairs.
But QFM radio reports that Police in Luanshya Monday recorded a warn and caution statement from Change Life Director Executive Director Father Frank Bwalya for allegedly defaming president Rupiah Banda.
Father Bwalya allegedly defamed the President when he was quoted referring to the president as Muwelewele (useless) in Post edition of May 10, 2010.
Father Bwalya claims the directive to the police to cite him for defamation of the president came from Government.
He reported at Luanshya police at around 12:30 hours.
And Father Bwalya who gave a statement under protest says he does not understand why the same police who summoned him had failed to take any action against Lusaka Province MMD Chairman William Banda after he reported him at Lusaka central police for threatening violence against him.
He wondered why it took the police a few hours to summon him when it has taken days to summon Mr Banda who he says has continued threatening his life.
And in his statement to the Police,Father Bwalya maintained that he has no intentions to defame the President or to scandalize the office of the republican President.
Meanwhile Father Bwalya says no amount of intimidation from any Government wing will derail the Red Card Campaign.
He says those that want to intimidate him are wasting their time and that they should target the masses who are not happy with the MMD leadership.
