UPND starts preparing for Mpongwe bye-election

The united party for national development (UPND) says it is not surprised by the defection of MMD chairman for elections, Gabriel Namulambe.

UPND secretary general Winston Chibwe says Mr. Namulambe’s defection is not surprising because his party saw it clearly by the conduct of some MMD officials during some joint meetings.

Mr. Chibwe however states that his party is disappointed that Mr. Namulambe has decided to create an unnecessary by election which he says will gobble huge sums of tax payer’s money.

Speaking to QFM, Mr. Chibwe further states that the UPND, will start preparing ground for participation in the forthcoming Mpongwe parliamentary by-elections.

And when asked if the UPND is considering going into a loose pact with the MMD, Mr. Chibwe states that his party is not in any alliance with any political party on electoral matters.

And in a separate interview with QFM news, expelled MMD national secretary Major Richard Kachingwe says his party stands no chance in the Mpongwe by elections whether it goes in as a pact with the UPND or not.

He has however wished the MMD the very best in the forthcoming by-elections.

ZAMBIANS, WHEN ARE WE GOING TO BE TIRED OF THESE GAMES PLAYED BY GREEDY POLITICIANS. NAMULAMBE IS THE MOST UNFORTUNATE PERSON ON EARTH. IF WE MAKE UP OUR MINDS HE CAN BE THE LAST PERSON TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO THE POOR ZAMBAN VILLAGES IN MPONGWE.

WHY ARE WE SITTING IDLY AND WATCHING A GOVERNMENT WHICH WE FAITHFULLY VOTED FOR TREAT US LIKE THIS. FIRST IT WAS MASEBO AND THEN MASUMBA. AND WE HAVE BEEN WATCHING HELPLESSLY. ZAMBIA DOES NOT BELONG TO THESE GREEDY PEOPLE.

NAMULAMBE WENT AND BRIBED 372 VILLAGERES WITH A FEW KWACHA AND BECAUSE THEY ARE SUFFERING, THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE MONEY FROM THE SALE OF THEIR MAIZE, THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED INPUTS, THE MEALIE MEAL PRICES HAVE SKYROCKETED, HE COULD TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM.

WHAT A WICKED MAN. HE DELIBERATELY ABDICATED A SEAT TO CAUSE AN EXPENSIVE, UNNECESSARY BY-ELECTION. I APPEAL TO ALL NGOS, STUDENTS AND ALL WELL-MEANING ZAMBIANS TO CHALLENGE NAMULAMBE AND MAKE SURE THAT BY-ELECTION DOES NOT TAKE PLACE. IT IS BETTER THAT THE SEAT REMAINS VACANT. THIS IS THE HIGHEST KIND OF ABUSE OF THE PEACE-LOVING ZAMBIAN PEOPLE.

UPND DONT RUSH FOR THAT ELECTION.. LET US AS ZAMBIANS PREFER THAT THE SEAT REMAINS VACANT BECAUSE OF THE NAMULEMBE’S HIGHLY IRRESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOUS. HE DOES NOT WANT THE SEAT AND DOES NOT CARE FOR THE PEOPLE OF MPNGWE. HE MUST NOT GET I BACK. LET IT BE VACANT. I AM VERY, VERY ANNOYED.

HH & Upnd to contest Mpongwe, the way to go! Thumbs up Upnd, you are the only reasonable voice for the voiceless. HH we love you & you will be the best Zambian president ever.

  3. Observation Point (OP)  December 16, 2012 at 20:32

People will vote for same chap Namulambe coz he will be standing on the ruling ticket. More money in Mpongwe by elctions to buy votes from villagers and you win. A reasonable regitered voter will get your money as the case was with RB and vote otherwise, kicking you out for creating unnecessary election.

  4. Mzee Hekima  December 16, 2012 at 19:17

only a fool who does not love Zambia and his children will vote for Gabriel people like him are sell outs who are letting down the country. People of Mpongwe if you know what is good for you Gabriel is not something good. Reject his leadership by the way the onus is on you Mpongwe people.

  5. Mubanga  December 16, 2012 at 18:58

Go go UPND!! This time around we do not want what happened in Mufumbwe to repeat itself. Whether we shall lose or not, we have to field a candidate!!!

  6. Shaka  December 16, 2012 at 18:57

Honestly speaking, poor Zambians have never been good at knowing what to do with the ballot paper.Zambia is poverty bound and we all owe it to the poor. It’s all because they don’t know how to vote.In the foreseeable future,Zambia will continue to wallow in abject poverty, thanks to the poor majority.

  7. Kuyumayuma  December 16, 2012 at 17:48

Why insulting and what are we gaining?Who ever wins its ok as long is a Zambian because we want Zambian to be in Parliament. So stop pointing fingers on one another as any one has the right to resign and join any part of his choice. But through hatred and looking on tribe as Political Parties wan’t take us to State House.Because one or two tribes wan’t take some one to state house but you need to win 7 to 8 Provinces to go through. So let us not mislead ourselves.

Looking at chituwo and Namugala speaking on TVZ, i could clearly see PF mind set in them. Mark my words; we are heading for more bye elections in many constituencies under MMD as most of their MPs are just moles. God help us.

  21. TC  December 16, 2012 at 10:28

Another election to prove how weak the opposition still is. I bet you they will be burried in this one too! That’s the whole cry about.

      • beeds  December 16, 2012 at 12:09

UPND will probably lose the election, though their victory will be in the # of votes they get. I see an improvement there, in preparation for 2016. Every single vote will count then, even from mpongwe

I pity Zambians surely how do you let pipo like Namulambe fool you around while you watch. I know PF will win this seat from foolish and unprincipled voters who are subjected to constant load sheding, erratiC water supply, exhorbitant & scarce meal meal , exhorbitant cement prices, self inflicted bus fares, terrible exchange rates , no freedom of assembly, increasing presidential salary by 100% while you increase civil servant by 15% and you remove retention allowance( Levy Mwanawasa NEVER)

    • mupetabune  December 16, 2012 at 14:47

    @katwishi
Why impersonating the bembas? You have blandered in your bemba gramma! Write in tonga so that your point can reach home!

    • Zed@crossroad  December 16, 2012 at 08:43

Probably he feels safer to be associated with that name under these trying times.

    • Snake Lady  December 16, 2012 at 11:40

jodo, it is not blander, but blunder. So when one blunders in bemba gramma, then he is tonga? I thought this site is accessed by all who care to visit it? Using your reasoning, I suggest that you also use bemba so that your point can reach home, though God knows how many people will understand it.

  37. Jamela  December 16, 2012 at 08:28

Politics of the belly are taking this country back wards. The Government should not rejoice in conducting these unnecessary by-elections created by selfish and foolish individuals. UPND is the only party with disciplined members of parliament who cannot be bought easily because they are there to serve the people who sent them to parliament. Being the In-coming government they should prepare themselves adequately. How I wish the people of Mpongwe could teach this idiot Namulambe a lesson by rejecting him for taking them for a ride.

    • Politics  December 16, 2012 at 08:56

we the people can stop politics of the belly by choosing dedicated leaders in UPND..

  38. The Advisor  December 16, 2012 at 08:05

I feel sorry for those who call the poor unprincipled Kachingwe, father. I wish this old man can behave according to what his age demands. I thought politics of the belly had age limit.

  39. KCM  December 16, 2012 at 08:00

Ba UPND it seems you don’t know what you want… You always talk about democracy, but you are the first to reject its ugly side; freedom of association coupled with expensive exercises such as bye elections. Please don’t be lukewarm and tell us whether you’re fade up with democracy instead of showing double standards…

  40. Dr Think Tank  December 16, 2012 at 07:57

UPND is the only principled party, their past and present speak kind of their calibre. In the UPND and HH, one sees a good government and its ONLY a matter of time before we begin to live our wish with the future. UPND will certainly rule this country. PF and MMD are of one heart, mind and same wine in perhaps similar or same but not necessarily new wine bottles. Their management of national affairs similar. PF has no clear and effective policy on agriculture (watching army worms wrecking havoc), mealie meal shortages ever, kaponyas keep littering streets and begging – hey STOP entertaining these functional illiterates because they are part of the problem, let them feel the pinch then they wil vote wisely next time, fuel shortages ever, now Tazara goods trains grounded, constitution making process an elitist affair (if at all they PF and TC are elite, no transparency and accountability, even NCC was better, Police brutality order of the day, government pre-occupied with poaching mps from opposition, no campaign promises fulfilled, ZESCO more moribund than under Sisala. Don’t expect too much from PF because they have no calibre or required acumen to deliver development. their campaign message was not even rhetoric but just hallucinations!Just continue preparing for 2016 because this regime is surely ephemeral.

NOW WHEN YOU MENTION PF PEOPLE WILL LOOK AT YOU, AS A STRANGER IN ZAMBIA. IN THIS PF TENURE POVERTY IS EXTREMELY INCREASING,THAN EVER IN ZAMBIA.
CAN WE A VOTE FOR PF AGAIN? NEVER VICTORY TO HHHHHHHHHH!!!!2016

  43. Kayawe  December 16, 2012 at 07:33

DEPORT ALL FOREIGNERS DOING ILLEGAL THINGSIN ZAMBIA. Thanks PF. Please keep on deporting them. The MMD allowed this culture of foreigners becoming big headed without respecting the local. Look at South Africa. Our friends do not allow the kind of nonsense we take from foreigners and yet investors keep flowing in SA. So you idiots, stop blaming the govt..atase.
