We all go into govt to eat-Munkombwe

When swearing-in his ministers and permanent secretaries on tuesday, President Michael Sata ordered them to travel extensively instead of sitting in offices. This fits well with Mr. Munkombwe, Richwell Siamunene, Gabriel Namulambe, Stephen Masumba, and other senior government officials because they draw huge travel allowances for themselves, drivers, fuels, and entourage. Mr. Sata is possibly running the largest cabinet in Africa and since they have all been ordered to move, one wonders what resources will remain for service delivery.

Newly-appointed Southern Province minister Daniel Munkombwe says he will continue serving in government even at the age of 90 as long as God gives him life and wisdom to explain and interpret things.

And Munkombwe says he has continued to serve in all governments because he is rated as an old useful man.

Meanwhile, Munkombwe says everybody is now adopting his philosophy of politics of benefits.

In an interview, Munkombwe said if he could convince people at 90 years, he would continue to offer his services.

“Since we cannot say who is dying when, because it is only God who determines when to take, it is not an individual. Those individuals who wish us ill may go earlier than us. It is wrong to wish or expect an old man to die earlier because those who wish others to die early may die early instead,” said 81-year-old Munkombwe when asked how long he intends to serve in government.

Asked if politics of benefits were at play following his appointment in government, Munkombwe responded: : “There is nobody who is not using my philosophy of politics of benefits. There is nobody who goes into parliament naked, we go to parliament because of allowances. There is no more patriotism. Patriotism was only there when we were fighting colonialists, so everybody is adopting my philosophy of politics of benefits. I know people will say Munkombwe has gone into government because he wants to eat but who does not want to eat?”

On Novermber 13, 2005, Munkombwe who was then Southern Province MMD chairman told the late Levy Mwanawasa in Mamba that politics of patriotism were over because what was at play then were politics of benefits.

Ôld Munkombwe has explained the reasons behind the defections that has rocked our country, and one thing is clear that someone is promising them heaven on earth for ditching their parties. Therefore no matter how we complain on miss use off tax payers money, nothing will be done.

Fellow Zambians, Munkombwe is being very fair to us coz he’s only saying waht every other politician does in Zambia. Apart from Super Ken, en by my standards Late Levy, which politician has a heart for the country today? Nobody. All go in there to eat en that’s what they are doing

Its time African youths woke up from their slumber, imagine at 81 one is appointed to serve in Government! From the time I knew my grandfather Mr. Munkombwe, he has lived all his life in politics and I am really surprised to hear that he is going into government to eat. I am able to feed myself, but I am not employed by government and will still be able to feed and eat when government will create a space for me. Its time we enacted laws for our leaders, hence they really take us for granted. We vote for change not this cheap and mediocre talk from old men who only want to eat at the expense of development as evidenced by the statement by my grandfather “There is nobody who is not using my philosophy of politics of benefits. There is nobody who goes into parliament naked, we go to parliament because of allowances. There is no more patriotism. Patriotism was only there when we were fighting colonialists, so everybody is adopting my philosophy of politics of benefits.
