Two Zambeef trucks transporting meat products, have been impounded by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) at the Katima-Mulilo border post in Western Province.

Following a malicious campaign by the Post newspaper, Zambeef is being investigated for  allegedly flooding the local market with products believed to contain dangerous levels of aromatic aldehydes.

According to the Zambian media controlled by the regime, aromatic aldehydes is used to embalm dead bodies which could cause organic cancer in humans.

ZNBC reported Sunday night thaat the trucks were believed to be carrying kidneys and offals imported from Ireland and being transported through, the Port of Walvis Bay in Namibia enroute to Zambia.

ZRA officials also impounded 12 trucks carrying Tilapia-Fish belonging to Capital Fisheries that were entering the border post in Sesheke.

Sesheke District council secretary, Given Muleya said the Zambeef trucks had been impounded following instructions from the Ministry of Health and Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA).

Mr Muleya said in an interview with TV2, that the trucks would only be released after inspections on the products, were conducted.

The meat supplier had withdrawn all imported beef products from its outlets in Zambia until Government fully investigates the allegations against it.

Should people politicize such a serious issue as the one we have at hand? I wonder what would happen if this country if we were to go to war with another country. There is complete lack of patriotism and we are ready to sacrifice and betray each other for political gain. What a shame!!!

The post has really used Zambeef to up their sales for that useless paper and people have fallen for this nonsense , even here the UK the Tailapia fish we eat comes from China. That employee who was fired by Zambeef should be employed by any other Company in zambia he is a risk the guy must have lied to the post about this all rubbish . People just enjoy the meat that story is not true!

Normal bread is supposed to have a 12 hour shelf life before it goes stale.

There must be something in new bread that keeps it fresh for 3 weeks. Is bread “embalmed” too?

Let’s just ban all food and vegetables. Especially the fruits from RSA and the East that have an inordinately long shelf life.

Let’s all follow the pied piper of Bwinjimfumu and eat subsidies and “the post”.

Something tells me to look at Freds other hand when articles like this come out. Something is happening and they want to misdirect public attention while it happens.

Elections, teachers strikes, MP’s for sale, collapsing economy, soaring fx rate or something else.

We will hear, 10 years from now how this week was one where something devious happened. The Zambeef issue is “covering/ suppressing fire “

City market meat is worse it looks so fresh and it doesn’t go bad. And I over heard a conversation btwn to women on the bus en route to lilanda brushing off the Zambeef scandal saying” nga kale twafa baleishupa fye uko kwine abana nabakula elyo ati Zambeef ni embalmed meet. Atase uko kwine”

Also inspect the meat sold at Lusaka City Market, because just even the place where it is sold it is not clean.

You ZW.D are foolish jokers what is this organic cancer?

  8. Joseph  June 24, 2013 at 15:59

Why didn’t govt use either Zambia Daily Mail or Times of Zambia instead of Fred Mmembe’s post, to expose ZAMBEEF? Why did govt test the sample, believed to have been taken to them by a disgruntled ex-employee who most probably could have contaminated the sample with the said chemicals, in the absence of ZAMBEEF representatives? The test was not done in a transparent manner and, therefore, casts doubt on the credibility of the results. My own strong view is that the sample was contaminated after it left ZAMBEEF butchery and not before.

Fred Mmembe hates HH and because HE. Sata’s dosier linked HH to ZAMBEEF, hatched a scheme to destroy the company which may see hundreds of Zambians lose their jobs. Zambians, do not respect these fake investigations. Remember, some agents have been reported to have stolen some of the meat already. Only the govt could have this kind of machinery to make a fake case credible.

You people must appreciate wat zambeef has done for this country, it has employed more than 5000 workers across the country, those imported products comes from big countries distributes to various countries not zambeef under their governmental health institution and every delivery is accompanied by health certificate. so you people don’t just comment any how.

    • kim  June 24, 2013 at 15:58

How foolish you can be!! What has Zambeef done to justify bring contaminated waste for us to consume?? Are you a dog?? No amount of bribery can justify such an act by Zambeef. What the have done would have earned them firing squad in China.

PF are thugs, you mean this is when you have realised that the food and other consumables are supposed to be examined? This should have been a regular thing done on all consumables entering Zambia. Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Britain etc do it. Let this not end at clearing or convicting ZamBeef, it should continue. It is a noble cause but make sure you are sincere not just victimising Zambeef.

  12. Holocaust survivor  June 24, 2013 at 14:47

Even those importing fish should be subjected to the same. This is a good job. We can not be supplied with tilapia fish all the way from China. How is it grown there? These businesses are after money only. Please stop tilapia fish importation as well.

    • Mayako  June 24, 2013 at 15:28

The govt must extend the investigations even to traders at Lusaka city Market. I strongly believe that this is another platform where illicit activities of similar nature are happening. All sorts of meats are being sold in unsanitary manner.LCC must wake up. They don’t need to be remaindered that most of these meats are poisonous. Life is precious.

  17. Maambamba Musaama  June 24, 2013 at 14:06

This is a noble cause, the govt should move in all other types of products- chickens, eggs, fish, flour, polony, imported fruits and vegies etc. Health transcends politics, this is a lesson to Zambians who love to eat foreign foods thinking you are modern. Go back to locally organically grown food stuffs, they maybe grade B quality but healthy.

  18. vyakulolavye  June 24, 2013 at 13:53

Did you also know that there are others, like poultry (broiler) producers here in Zambia, who also add growth promoters (boosters), whose bio-chemical action is similar to ARV drugs, to broilers feeds? And we eat broiler meat? This makes broilers reach their (close to 2kg) market live weight in less than 4 weeks.

It is even useless to have our children vaccinated against forms of cancer (e.g. cervical cancer). We need to act, all of us Zambians. You and me can put and end to this, but we must believe in each other and support all actions against these selfish vices. Most of these things are perpetrated by foreign infestors (not investors).

WATCH OUT EVERYONE, KNOW WHAT YOU EAT!

If the stuff is harmful to humans, the management at Zambeef must not be spared from facing the full wrath of the law. They can not knowingly contaminate the people of this country and get away with it. Their license must be revoked and outlets closed.

    • Edward Mumba  June 24, 2013 at 13:15

Read the article I have put in Zambia online from The Economist about ZamBeef. Mr Grogan, has not hidden the fact that they import offal from richer countries. You can find the article in Dear Zambia under the heading killed us. ZamBeef employ 5000 Zambians. Ask yourself who will profit from the deliberate destruction of a great Zambian company.

      • Dubble Tobela  June 24, 2013 at 16:10

Believe me,ZAMBEEF can circumvent through this without losing business.Already they have done a PR stunt by annopuncing that they have withdrawn imported beeef and only selling local beef.Any food company through their business risk assesment have taken care of such likely occurences unless you do not understand such a businesss enviroment.Only recently EU was experiencing the horsement scandle but from the ecoli scandle.I

      • kim  June 24, 2013 at 16:18

How small is your brain?? Its not emloyment or benefits here – but feeding people waste. How much have you been paid anyway?? Just go buy yourself more offal to fill the empty space in your head, Selling your people for crumbs – idiot

    • Native  June 24, 2013 at 13:18

The accusing finger is Food and Drug Lab which is a govt dept. So any compensation likely to be paid to ZAMBEEF will come from national treasury.

  25. Rusco  June 24, 2013 at 12:59

Good job, It is this cosignment that will reveal everything, unless the information linked somehow before loading these trucks. Fisheries import is also a suspect, I hope nothing of the nature of ZAMBEEF is happening to the FISH industry. Everyone is awaere that PF is busy shooting itself in the feet because it is like there is no trust even among themselves the PF. PF has grown so big uncotrollably to an extent that they are not able to identify their own people.

  26. Vizungu  June 24, 2013 at 12:40

‘PF cadres working at border looking for aromatic aldehydes in the truck..’

Unprecedented skill from PF cadres! A first in science. We do not need all those sophisticated spectroscopy and chromatography instruments in the field of analytical chemistry – come on you PF cadres, i am opening a lab, i need your services!

  27. Native  June 24, 2013 at 12:39

These chaps borrowed our $3 million DBZ money, using some of those resources caused chaos in our judiciary, now are targeting ZAMBEEF? Now if it’s true that Michael Chilufya Sata has serious investment in ZAMBEEF, then the aim is also surely to weaken him under the guise of targeting HH who was perceived to have interests. Is this theory too far fetched? Those of you who are staunch PF may have cast your sights too far when the enemy lies within! ZAMBEEF is reported to have backed PF, so is the party now burning its bridges? What is the party’s statutory role in searching the meat company’s trucks at the border?

    http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/toxprofiles/tp111-c1.pdf

refer to the above article and then you will see if you can totally avoid this chemical. It seems a lot of people are arguing from uninformed position. what the lab if it had competent people should have been saying how much of this chemical did they find. Not reporting on traces. Chances are they just did identification test which is less analytical. The sad lab can only be trust by those who do not know its capabilities or its limitations.

  31. Wisdom Chasaya  June 24, 2013 at 12:10

I want to thank Zambeef for their professional of handling issues. Zambeef is a Zambian Company which needs our support. Zambeef cannot and will never be like the failed Zambian Airways where some minoins cheated the Zambian people and stole 18 billion kwacha. The want to do the same to our country. These dogs, watch them.
