Masebo claims foreign planes entering Zambian airspace without being detected

In what may turn out to be a serious national security scandal and breach for the Zambian Defence and Security wings, Tourism and Arts Minister Sylvia Masebo today revealed that unauthorised foreign aircrafts have been violating the Zambian air space by entering and leaving the country without being detected and smuggle animals, among others.

The minister has told journalists in Lusaka today that government has information that the Zambian air space was being violated and some animals were being airlifted using aircrafts that land in the country illegally using airstrips around the country.

The air security breach also raises questions on what other Zambian goods such as minerals are being smuggled through the various air-strips around the country.

Ms. Masebo has added that following the dismissal of top management officials at ZAWA, government has received numerous complaints from the public countrywide on the alleged corruption by the ZAWA officials.

She notes that a lot of wrong has been done in the management of wildlife resulting in serious revenue losses for the country.

If Masebo’s claims are correct, it raises great security concern for Zambian security wings on how foreign owned aircrafts would enter the Zambian air-space without notice or detection. The alarming statement and revelations by the Zambian minister technically means anybody can easily bring arms in the country through the national parks without the Zambian security wings, Civil Aviation, and Zambia Airforce (ZAF) knowing.

Masebo said a joint team of investigators has started gathering documents at Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) headquarters needed to commence investigations into alleged corrupt activities in the issuance of safari hunting concessions.

Ms. Masebo says government has learnt that a lot of plunder has been done to the country’s natural resources at the expense of the Zambian people.

  2. If the PF Govt was operating normally, guided by regular Cabinet Meetings, the matters raised by Masebo could have been tabled at the Cabinet level. Masebo’s pronouncements are assumed to have been based on data supplied by Govt Officers in the field. How could such serious secirity breaches escape the attention of personnel at the Office of the President? May be Masebo is plotting to take over the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Masebo has deliberately gone public to join forces with her boy-friend Kabimba to attack GBM and, to some extent, throw missiles Lubinda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Edgar Lungu’s Immigration Dept. Kabimba’s and Masebo’s project extends beyond the functions of the Civil Servants, ZAF and ZAWA. The divisive crack is growing wider in PF system.

  12. THIS IS A CLEAR DECLARATION BY MASEBO THAT THE MINISTER OF DEFENCE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT GOES ON IN HIS MINISTRY. IT HAS TO TAKE THE MINISTER OF TOURISM TO ALARM THE NATION INSTEAD OF MIN OF DEFENCE TO ALERT ZAF IF THEY ARE SLEEPING? OR IS IT PF’S MODUS OPERANDI TO OUT DO EACH OTHER? IT IS CLEAR PF DO NOT HOLD CABINET MEETINGS OTHERWISE THEY WOULD HAVE KNOWN HOW TO DEAL WITH SUCH MATTERS. THE NEXT GOVERNMENT SHOULD DEMAND FOR MINUTES OF SUCH MEETINGS FAILURE TO PRODUCE THEM SHOULD BE TREATED AS TREASONABLE OFFENCE.

  16. The allegation has no basis as have been in the national parks and GMAs and never witnessed animals being air lifted. If animals are air lifted it is to the full knowledge of government and the animals in transit under go medical tests to avoid transmission of animal diseases. Prostitute Masebo lied on this one just to dent ZAWA and replace fired chaps with their own. Am watching as even the fired chaps can spill the beans on issues they refused to do for Prostitute Masebo and cronies.

Its unfortunate that ZAF has now specialised in operating the Presidential Challenger and distribution of ballot papers through out the Country. Forgetting their mandate of maintain (arial) peace and security. To make matters worst Sata has even employed an incompitent ZAF boss who has to be taught from the office.

At the rate we are going, I wouldn’t be surprise if Zambia will not be taken over by RSA. Infact Zambians would willingly choice to be part of RSA.

  25. I have previously argued that there is no point of using tax payers’ money to finance a useless ZAF because i dont see why I pay for them. Instead, the police force which is daily being overworked, beaten, abused and sometimes killed for my peace should be given more than these useless ZAF officers. And they are the highly paid of all the defence forces, my foot!

Now, here we are; planes entering and leaving at will while they are busy building and entertaining themselves at the expensive ZAF messes. Should my money sure continue to be used for these useless guys?

  27. Masebo breaks such alarming news that compromises national security yet with her full knowledge an airstrip is under construction in South Luangwa National Park near Mfuwe Lodge. What purpose will this airstrip serve if not for smuggling animals and ivory when there already is a commercial airport about 15km away outside the National Park.

  28. ZAF are the biggest culprit. In Mfuwe especially in Nsefu chiefdom some villagers have been armed with automatic rifles and have literally wiped out elephants that go foraging for food in the GMA. In Nsefu, elephants are massacred in broad day light, tusks removed and ZAF officers meet up with on rendezvous points to collect and later fly the contraband to Lusaka from their Mfuwe base. It is a cartell that involves high profile ‘boys’. ZAWA and SLCS cannot fight this powerful cartel. Since I am out of a job I am asking whoever is taking from to seriously look into this and investigate ZAF Mfuwe.
