Finally Masebo reveals her admiration for Chipimo Jnr

MMD is as good as dead and buried, says Sylvia Masebo.

And Masebo says the decision by the MMD and UPND to field candidates in the Mpongwe parliamentary by-election did not hold any water.

In an interview yesterday, Masebo, who is Patriotic Front chairperson for elections, said the MMD was not a threat to the PF in the Mpongwe by-election as it was crumbling and “has no head and a tail”.

“MMD is finished and it shall never come back,” she said. “It will just be like UNIP, even worse than UNIP if anything, because if UNIP, which had a foundation based on principles and values of a political party went into oblivion. What about a party which has no head or tail?”

Masebo said whether or not the MMD joined forces with UPND in the by-election would not affect the PF, which she said had national appeal and character.
“They tried it in the last by-election to gang up and it never worked. You see, the only reason for ganging was to satisfy their appetite to see PF out of power,” she said.

“They have run out of good reasons to convince the people. So they really did not have a message. It is very clear that these people are not reliable.”
Masebo said the two parties had ceased to be factors to the PF.

“For now, the party that we are watching is that of young (NAREP president Elias) Chipimo. That is a party we can say has direction because we listen to its leaders. They are always talking issues, even when they attack, they attack on issues, Masebo said. “As for UPND, for as long as it is of the same colour, it will not inspire anybody and it will continue with the same results and, for us, it is good for PF.

The MMD have decided to go it alone in the Mpongwe by-election while their working partner the UPND have castigated them for continuing to live in their past glory.

Masebo said the need for a strong opposition was vital.
She said both the MMD and UPND had failed on that front.
“We wished they would give us a proper opposition and not just opposition with no direction where one is shooting this way, the other way. We don’t even know today whether they are coming or going. So really right now, they don’t even inspire the people of Zambia and having been in politics long enough, I can tell you that MMD is totally finished and buried,” she said.

“I would be shocked if those people would waste their vote on UPND and MMD. I know the final decision is theirs but I think they are exposed enough that they will not go anywhere with those political parties that have failed to work together. They will fail them in the same way they have failed to be together.”

  7. The idea that MMD is Dead neither hear nor there, and that it shall not come to power. MMD is already in power, the one that is in power is the mmd which was frastreted. eg Sata, Masebo, Masumba the list is endless. i noted that the part you are eying is NAREP, You people where do you want to take MMD?

  8. ba Masebo, if the opposition cant inspire the people, then neither is PF govnt. You have clearly described the opposition as insignificant and I totally agree with your assertions. But one fact is PF is full of recycled leaders without any vision. Its beyond my comprehension really, to have such leaders jumping from one party to another.. Lets start afresh now and time is now bane!!!!!!!!!

  11. Ruling parties have a tendency to befriend distant losers. We saw the same thing when Levy Patrick Mwanawasa (MHSRIP) stepped into power. He quickly got close to distant Nevers Mumba to the extent of making him vice president, thus putting him directly in line to inherit the throne. This was not because they saw eye-to-eye as the marriage of convenience quickly disintegrated. But it was done more as a slap in the face to Anderson Mazoka (MHSRIP) who was the real contender.

So I say to Elias, do not be used as a walking stick by the PF like Nevers Mumba by MMD. This is the second time MMD is hounding out Nevers after using him against fellow opposition.

  22. The fact is MMD and UPND are a real threat for PF.Only a those who are uninformed can take Masebo seriously. NAREP is not a factor or a threat to PF so they try to promote them. In this way get people to look at NAREP and even divide further the oposition. Only ignorant people will follow the deception of Masebo. Why are they arresting those whose party is already dead? MMD and UPND must continue their battle in the opposition. They are really giving PF sleepless nights.
PF is in real trouble within itself and outside.

    2) When PF comes into power there will be no load-shedding, no abuse of the public media and we will do away with the Public Order Act because it’s a colonial law.
    3) PF will create employment for the youths( tell the youths to smoke chamba for the last time today because when PF comes into power there will no time for them to smoke.)
    4) Better sanitation for everyone, 46 years of independence Zambians can not be using pit latrines. Under PF cholera will a thing of the past.
    5) We will increase bags of fertilizer for our farmers.
    6) People driven constitution within 90 days. Will also enact the Freedom of Information Bill.
    7) Reintroduce new taxes for the mines (windfall tax?)
    8) Build high/secondary schools in every ward. Children from George compound are performing bad because they are failing to mingle with children from Kabulonga.
    9) We shall not employ cadres as civil servants( district commissioners, ambassadors, permanent secretaries, etc) those jobs are for professionals.
    10) All small businesses will be for the Zambian people there is no way the Chinese all the way from China can be coming here to cook nshima and sell chickens at Soweto martket. Umwina chaina alikwata ichalo chakwe na imwe ba Pikiti lesa alimipela ichalo chenu.

  25. If mmd and upnd are not a factor miss Masebo why not keep quiet and celebrate as pf? On the contrary they’re surely giving u sleepless nites as pf thats why u keep denying them rallies and keep arresting their MPS for meeting pipo in their own constituencies. If u’re popular open the gate off rallies by opposition so u may test yo purported popularity if at all it exists. U’ve failed us guys in every front just good at talking nothing to implement. This is the other reason pf cabinet is divided u cant even advise the president to hold cabinet meetings frequently so u can speak in unison not Masebo says this GBM That and Edgar Lungu another thing on the same subject. 28. If I was Chipimo, I would be rather worried. As I’ve said before, if the one you are striving to replace gives you a thumbs up when you criticise them, then either of two things is happening.

    1. With or without your conniving that person is already planning to hand over to you anyway and are just going through the motions of being in opposition.
    2. That person may consider you not to be such a threat and so they prop you up to tease the real contenders and divert attention from them. Even at school we had girls who did that. Remember the walkie-talkies?

I’ve also advised Chipimo before not to be used like this because I know him differently.

  30. as Zambians we have to re-look at our strategy of putting people into leadership at all levels and in all parties. time has come to bring in a knew crop of leadership. many of our leaders today hail from the independence era. I think those should be replaced with young people who have knew ideas and thinking. as long as we keep Sata type of people those that were in UNIP, I am sure we have the same ideas. what I mean is that we need people who can think like they live in the Zambia of today. Look at the majority of the politicians, forinstance Masebo, where has she come from MMD and today she is saying MMD is finished. dont you think she has the same ideas she had in MMD? its only a year ago she was busy on MMD ticket but today there she is. people must be principled and strong minded and not just going for money. true leadership sticks to the mission and purpose. not the way people are swinging from one party to the other, it shows that these are not true leaders but only looking for opportunities.

Its because of using people like Masebe who spend most of their time on gossip and character assasination rather then developmental issues.
