Updated: Police lock up Nevers Mumba again

Dictator Michael Sata’s Police in Lusaka have today around 16:20 hours locked up MMD leader Never Mumba on the charge of wilfully failure to comply with applicable procedure relating to management of public funds.

The PF police have also arrested him on three counts of abuse of office.

Charges are that on dates unknown,Mumba wilfully failed to comply with laid down procedures in receiving and disbursing Canadian Dollars 122,229.85 a donation to the Zambian government by a a private company called Barrick Gold Corporation.

Other charges are that Mumba abused his authority by awarding contracts of 9000, 19850, and 5248 Canadian Dollars for electrical works, carpeting and construction of a deck at the Zambian High Commission in Canada.

He has been remanded in custody at Woodlands Police Station and will appear in court tomorrow.

Earlier police wanted to get Mumba’s finger prints which he refused because they wanted to use them in implicating him.

This is the the third time the police are detaining Zambia’s former envoy to Canada in a space of two months.

Mumba was was summoned to appear before the Task Force today but told the police that the notice was too short and that he should be allowed to meet them on Wednesay.

The police working under pressure from State House told him to report himself today or be picked up by force.

‘Yes I am in the cells now at Woodlands police station,’ Mumba told the Watchdog.

His lawyers led by Sakwiba Sikota were frantically trying to get him out on police bond by 16: 30 local time, but the Watchdog has been informed that president Michael Sata has ordered the police to make sure he spends at least a day in cells.

  15. “Tyranny is the exercise of power beyond right, which nobody can have a right to”.

“(Tyranny is) … when the governor, however entitled, makes not the law, but his will, the rule; and his commands and actions are not directed to the preservation of the properties of his people, but the satisfaction of his own ambition, revenge, covetousness, or any other irregular passion”.

This also is what we are facing in Zambia

  17. Sata is not a Christian. He may be a Catholic but the fact remains he (Sata) is a very wicked man. Evil men cheer him on because they belong to the same camp. Sata may get away with his wickedness here on earth but he will answer for them in eternity. Unless he repents of his wickedness, Sata will die a very sad man. His family will also live in infamy.

  19. I will simply borrow from the following quotes,

“Whenever the power that is put in any hands for the government of the people, and the protection of our properties, is applied to other ends, and made use of to impoverish, harass or subdue them to the arbitrary and irregular commands of those that have it; there it presently becomes tyranny, whether those that thus use it are one or many”.

“The legislature acts against the trust reposed in them, when they endeavour to invade the property of the subject, and to make themselves, or any part of the community, masters, or arbitrary disposers of the lives, liberties or fortunes of the people”.

“He” (the supreme executive) “also acts contrary to his trust, when he either employs the force, treasure and offices of the society, to corrupt the representatives, and gain them to his purposes; or openly pre-engages the electors, and prescribes to their choice, such, whom he has by solicitations, threats, promises, or otherwise won them to his designs, and employs them to bring in such, who have promised beforehand, what to vote, and what to enact”.

Hence I am not at all surprised of what our beloved country is currently facing.

  28. When Namugala said “MMD will die within 3 months”. she surely knows the plan that has been put forth against Nevers Mumba by the PF. I can only guess between the following two things: imprison him for many years or kill him to keep him silent forever. The former is more likely, but if the latter is to take place, blame will be put on MMD members themselves and the Post will be at the forefront to propagate this. Excuse me for this harsh thinking, but what is happening in this country entices me to think like this. TYRANNY on the rise in Zambia.
