Updated: Police lock up Nevers Mumba again

Dictator Michael Sata’s Police in Lusaka have today around 16:20 hours locked up MMD leader Never Mumba on the charge of wilfully failure to comply with applicable procedure relating to management of public funds.

The PF police have also arrested him on three counts of abuse of office.

Charges are that on dates unknown,Mumba wilfully failed to comply with laid down procedures in receiving and disbursing Canadian Dollars 122,229.85 a donation to the Zambian government by a a private company called Barrick Gold Corporation.

Other charges are that Mumba abused his authority by awarding contracts of 9000, 19850, and 5248 Canadian Dollars for electrical works, carpeting and construction of a deck at the Zambian High Commission in Canada.

He has been remanded in custody at Woodlands Police Station and will appear in court tomorrow.

Earlier police wanted to get Mumba’s finger prints which he refused because they wanted to use them in implicating him.

This is the the third time the police are detaining Zambia’s former envoy to Canada in a space of two months.

Mumba was was summoned to appear before the Task Force today but told the police that the notice was too short and that he should be allowed to meet them on Wednesay.

The police working under pressure from State House told him to report himself today or be picked up by force.

‘Yes I am in the cells now at Woodlands police station,’ Mumba told the Watchdog.

His lawyers led by Sakwiba Sikota were frantically trying to get him out on police bond by 16: 30 local time, but the Watchdog has been informed that president Michael Sata has ordered the police to make sure he spends at least a day in cells.

  1. Country men and women weather political or personal attack i see recent happenings to be of great concern with regard to the future of our country because the basis should be order in the way issues are done second respect for each other third plan for the future Zambia is lucking in many areas that needs time to undertake these developmental programs….if we can all rise and discuss real issues affecting us maybe then we will push this country foward for our children to benefit but if we are selfish then we are slowly destroying this great nation mother Zambia. for me am sad about it all.

  5. These arrests and intimidation is causing serious concerns in the country. Whilst Ukwa was ready to use violence we have evidence from colleagues who were armed with machetes in the backs of their cars. Ukwa was not taking anything less than Presido at the cost of innocent lives and he was backed by catholics. It is high time that we start responding and possibly remove him from office by all means. This Ukwa, POST and Catholic also incensed the people of western province to rise against MMD if they had lost and cause civil war. I think it is the right time to do it now.

  26. Please leave Nevers Mumba alone. he has not committed any sins deserving this kind of ill treatment. Zambia doesn’t belong to Satan or for wickecd parties like Pf alone but it is our country. Why should one man hold the entire nation to rasom? Anyway those who voted for this despodent dictator must be celebrating how he is leading the nation. May God hold you responsible for rejecting peace and opting for an evil way of government.

  27. The problem in Zambia is that we aren’t serious with ourselves. Why can’t we learn from those of Egypt and other islamic countries where they are rising up in mass protests to challenge their leaders, and aren’t afraid of police or army. Satan will kill all those opposing him and there after will jump on his own supporters because dictators ‘re never short of whom to fight. Once the likes of Nevers or HH are finished by Satan no one else will arise to liberate Zambia which yu foolish voters delivered to Satan on a silver plate. You may enjoy the incaceration of Mumba today but tomorrow it may be you or those close to you. It is foolishness for anyone to advise Nevers to go back to the pulpit. What sin has he committed to join politics? Even those who claim HH and UPND are party championing tribalism are myopic and foolish because PF and its Sata are more tribal than any other party of today or past. Most of those in his cabinet, civil service, boards, diplomatic missions etc hail from Muchinga, Northern or Luapula yet you aren’t demonising him but inocent hh.

  28. Iam not a supporter of any political party in Zambia because of the recycled leadership, dirty politics, corruption, tribalism, rigging of votes and lies etc.
I have always been a critic of any govt that is failing to deliver the people’s inspirations, lack of true democratic principles in short.
Mr Mumba should indeed be answerable to the charges against him. This is not about MMD, but its about Mr Mumba’s conduct whilst holding a high portfolio in govt.
If he did not follow the laid down procedures and acted in self interest, then Mr Mumba must face the law. This will set as an example for all people working in various posts not to be corrupt, as new govts will be upon them.
Let Mr Mumba prove that he is innocent beyond reasonable doubt. If he did not follow the rules, regulations or procedures, then he should be dealt as charged.
The criminality of zed politics are a danger to democracy, too much childish behaviour with our leaders who only care about their bellies. These recyled have no place in modern politics, they are too trivial, colonial mentality.
PF police cadres, a bond will be fair on Mr Mumba and let justice prevail. Orders from State House are interfering with the justice system. The police should be civilised in handling such cases, as it will one day backfire on them for failing to follow procedures, rules and regulations of police. The police should be fair and charge many more political criminals who are also in PF, not only silencing the opposition.
No one is above the law, not even the police.

Cutting the story short, it took sani abacha to have a heart attack before Obasanjo was released to become democratically elected. It took a heart attack on Levy for Chiluba to be tried fairly and acquitted by the courts of law. I can go on giving examples but it is not necessary.

  43. Why has it taken so long to establish these charges against Nevers? Is this part of the scheme to finish off the former ruling party? In whose interest is this being done? When things happen this way, it is hard to establish a dividing line between normal legal process and politically motivated legal cases. Whatever the case, I see Mr. Sata’s hand in all this. Let me cease this opportunity to advise Mr. Sata that he seems to limit the definition of corruption to giving and receiving bribes where at least one of the parties to the corrupt act is a public officer. He himself is guilt of corruption at least on account of nepotism. Nepotism is a form of corruption and it seems to be at its peak in the current administration. Mr. Sata is so full of rhetoric and inconsistences. Let him remove the log in his eye so he can properly see the speck in other people’s eyes. Mr. Sata is so full of hate, which even shows on his face. All the same, may the Lord, God have mercy on him and give him guidance. If he resists this, his reward is near.
