Dandy Crazy was not in any way abused and the police need no permission to shave his hair. cells or jail is used to reform people and part of reformation is showing him how to keep a clean head

  6. Unprofessional Conduct of a female Police Officer at Kabwata Police Station.

I report case of a stolen cell phone at Kabwata Police Station which stolen at Ridge-way Post Office. The police Officer (lady) who attended to was professional and recorded the case and issue a police report. She assured me that the police would pursue the case and I should check with them in three to four days time. On 1st March 2013, I went back to the police station to find out how far the police had gone with my case. Unfortunately I meet a police woman who was arrogant and started asking me about the value of the cell phone which was stolen. In response I told her check the report which I made. She persisted on the value of the phone and said Police officers who investigated cases of stolen cell phones were spending their money which was more than the salaries they earned. At this pointed I asked if it was appropriate and right for Police Officers to carryout investigations using their personal money instead of the state. Arrogantly, she responded that if I had no money and was broke I should just leave the Police Station. I was shocked of her conduct. I remained her that the police had the duty to protect citizens and they should attend to any person regardless of their position or status in society and that the value of the property stolen should not determine whether the police should investigate the crime or not. In frustration, I told her that police she contributed to tarnishing the good image of the police and the head of state. I did not take to heart hatred about the way I was treated at the police station but put everything in the Hands of God Almighty.

Police Officers are public servants of the people and their job demands high integrity and professionalism. I have come to understand that the Zambia Police Service should be adequately funded and also should intensify Continuing Professional Development courses or trainings to equip both junior and senior officers with knowledge and skills in customer and public relations, psychosocial skills, human rights, democracy and governance issues. In most cases we allege that they are working under the influence of superior authorities yet they yet not, because they do not know how to procedure with certain matters.

Lastly, may our good father and president of the Republic of Zambia, through the Minister of Home Affairs try to raise funds to renovate police stations. If the working environment of police officers improves they would also improve their attitudes. Most of the police stations in this era of modern technology they do not have computers, photo copiers , printers and communication is a challenge. Let us work together to build the image of the police and let us be quick to hear and slow to speak. Condemning and underrating others always is not helpful and progressive.

    • I found your phone utu tuma zain K50 pin phones. Is that why you could not give the price at the police. Frankly speaking phones are loose tools the best you can do is to master the serial number so that incase someone steals it just report to the police get a police report and take it to the service provider e.g MTN. They will block that phone and whoever gets it will not be able to use it. (At first you condemm=ned but these are hidden benefits of sim registration) You may never recover your phone but who ever staels or buys it will never use it too. Simple than complaining about the police

      • MR CONCERNED CITIZEN you have no story to tell here, stolen phones are dificult to investigate because it requires searching from Airtel,Zamtel and MTN to collect data, after that you need to buy airtime to do calls,if you want to recover and you think police will buy airtime for you. When I lost mine it was recovered coz I was coperative.Being a some-of-us will take you nowhere

But of course if Rastafarian is his religion he could have gone to court to stop it as the constitution provide that he enjoys his freedom of religion.

  30. If he violated the law then he deserves to be arrested and charged if the allegations are true. The police had no right to cut his hair and that is what we call a violation of a right. Most of us out there have no idea what Human Right are.

Human rights are based on the principle of respect for the individual. Each person is a moral and rational being who deserves to be treated with dignity. They are called human rights because they are universal. Whereas nations or specialized groups enjoy specific rights that apply only to them, human rights are the rights to which everyone is entitled—no matter who they are or where they live—simply because they are alive.

Bottom line is the police violated this man. Two wrongs do not make a right. Police go too far and over excersise their powers. Look at what happened in South Africa just weeks ago when that poor taxi driver was dragged behind a police van! I mean who does that kind of thing? My advice to you ploicemen is for you to do your jobs and what you are being paid for and stop abusing people. Let the law take it’s course because you are not the law.You are victimizing that poor man just because you think you have the right to, which you don’t. You al need to get educated or get proper training.

    • Don’t make me swear please! I hope he sues them for that and skins them. When will we get respect for our rights from these institutions? Almost 50 years since independence but our police and government act as if they are the colonisers.
Rights should be respected regardless of who it is. We are all equal in that aspect. Be it a thief, rapist or even a murderer,he is a human and that entitles him to his basic human rights. Even if they are convicted, those rights don’t go away.
May the Almighty God help us all, aameen.
