Leaked email shows Zambeef repackaging expired kidneys

A leaked email shows that Zambeef is selling expired food to unsuspecting Zambians. An email from Zambeef Chief Operating Officer  Michael Ledwith reproduced at the end shows him asking Zambeef’s Huntley Farm Abattoir Manager for expired kidneys so that Zambeef can start repacaking them.

According to insiders, Zambeef has been importing a lot of meat (beef and pork) such as  Liver, Kidneys, Hooves, Tripe (offals), ox-tails, flanks, Boneless beef, Flanks, Pork spare ribs, Pork Trimmings, Pork skins and Chicken MDM .

These imports when they get into the country are normally stored at Chibote before they are moved to Zambeef’s Huntley farm for dispatch to Zambeef’s Outlets and other clients.

Below is the email from the Zambeef boss asking about expired kidneys:

Morning Mike,

No, we didn’t collect anything last week.

We can collect the Boneless from Chibote on Wednesday. Are the expired kidney available to load as well? I would like to start bringing them to Huntley for repacking?

Regards

Hennie,  Did you collect anything last week from Chibote?

Also the remainder of the Boneless Beef is now able to be loaded, about 4t only. When do you want to collect it?

  3. Advanced1, you are right. Zambia is a net importer of most foods and that’s the whole reason we are failing to have any proper bilateral trade agreements with countries such as the Congo. Our people have to change their attitude and become more productive to stave off some of these imports. We must work on production, processing and packaging as well as improve supply chain management.

  9. The other week i complained that i was sold expired bacon at Mongu shoprite. Efforts to return this rotten bacon met with rude response from suprevisors there. Now then, this is a scheme plotted by Zambeef to sell us such stuff as if we’re third class citizens. This boer Terblanche or whatever his name should be on the first plane out. Sichinga must act responsibly and swiftly to bannish this racist. In south africa they can stab him with an assegai.

    • Dear Bambo

It’s clear that your comment regarding this matter is due to your lack of education and narrow mindedness like poor previously disadvantaged people like Julius Malema. It’s funny how easy it is to play the racist card if you are to stupid and lazy to uplift yourself and others. This is not a racisim issue, grow up!

  13. Where as I strongly condemn selling consumers food products harzadous to their health, I think its also time that we indigenous Zambians began investing in our own food processing businesses. What kind of laziness is this where we must always consume and very rarely-if ever- produce. You may condemn Zambeef, and perhaps justifiably so, but if they withdraw from the market today, so many of our people will starve. Youths, stop walking around with your CVs begging for a job that pays peanuts! Start a food processing company and make yourself real money as you feed your citizens healthy food.

Authorities from council and food and drug went to Zambeef verified that all expired stuff which is a reality in the whole industry worldwide and is repacked at Huntley Farm and sold as PET FOOD including to places like crocodile farms whose trucks are always queuing at Zambeef. • Stop lying! You cant sell expired food even to pets you fool!! Just because you feed your pet ‘left overs’ you think thats what the case should be? You should have food just for your pet! Not food collected from ma restaurant and then you think thats what normally should be given to pet! Stop supporting inhumane acts like this by your foolishness. This food is taken back in shops that people buy from. Have you ever seen an advert in any Zambeef saying they sell expired food for pets?

  32. Two weeks ago I bought “vimbombo” (cow hooves) at ZAMBEEF off Mumbwa rd
near FRA. They looked rather white than what I know of Vimbombo. My wife alerted me to that fact and said they were imported. I didn’t believe her. I also bought kidneys. Are u sure we are not being fed with horse meat like the case is in Europe right now. Let there be an investigation right now. I don’t trust South Africans, black and white. They are crooks like Nigerians. They would do anything for an extra coin. The South Africans threw business ethics to the wind a long time ago. The irony is that they can’t do this in their own country because there are ruthless and stringent laws.

Is it any wonder the Cancer Diseases Hospital is so busy. I hope someone will be prosecuted and convicted for this. This is a very serious criminal offence and someone should go to jail for it. We are letting these so called Investors get away with murder!! Please can law enforcement agents investigate and bring to book the culprits. The so called investors would never get away with this in a country like Zimbabwe or Kenya or even Nigeria
