IMG_1838[1]A Kabwe based Lebanese businessman Nabil Illari has assaulted his worker Kelly Mwansa and injured him on the forehead for asking for his pay. Police have since apprehended Illari and is likely to be charged with unlawful wounding.

And quick action by police saved the restaurant from being looted by irate residents who almost broke the shop when the assaillant locked himself and all other workers inside.

According to other workers who were present, Illari is alleged to have hit Mwansa with a wooden rolling pin after Mwansa who has not been paid for two months and has been fired went to ask for his money. Mwansa was hit on the forehead and sustained a deep cut and bled profusely.

The workers said Illari who is said to be a partner and manager at Speers Restaurant along Buntungwa road had a perpetual habit of sexually and physically abusing the workers. “It is not the first time he has done that, some girls he sexually abuses them while us men are insulted whenever we demanded for our salaries which have no fixed date, we are treated as if we are slaves in our own country and are only working because there is no employment elsewhere” said a male employee who opted for anonymity.

After word went round that Illari had assaulted his worker, some residents surrounded the shop and threatened to beat up the owners. After they locked themselves up the irate residents started throwing stones and other objects at the shop but quick action by police saved the situation. Three uniformed policemen from town centre police post but could not contain the rowdy crowd until when reinforcement by the armed anti-robbery unit who managed to control the crowd.

Meanwhile an overzealous armed policeman threatened to beat journalists from the public and private media houses who went to cover the event. At one time he even threatened to break a camera belonging to a ZANIS Reporter. The action angered the reporters who jointly complained to the officer in charge.

  4. So if we are so clever and capable of doing everything why do these people keep coming to our country? Very simpo answer.
WE are not capable of doing things on our own. When we have money we spend it on beer (which we are not capable of producing ourselfs)then some on our girlfriends who in return spend it on hair and cloths ( which again is all imported )
what little is left over we buy some mealie meal (also produced by foreigners)
Then we say the government is no good because ( we need to blame someone) we always make right decisions.
So lets steal everything will be ok . The muzungu will go to jail if he hits us or insults us .

  12. This is really unfortunate and we want the minister of Labour and Social Security to intervene and make sure that such things come to an end, hence a lot of things happen in various working places. Its time we did something that benefit the citizens most than foreigners. We can’t be slaves in our own country. This is really unacceptable and embarrassing. Let the law be tough.

  13. Deport the id….t. He is inimical to o
ur well being. I want to urge the Gorvenment to dessist from the slave master like approach when it comes to issues of investor employee issues. They must remember that the children who go for months without pay are their real real children whose rights must be protected. That Company must be punished for abbrogating labour laws. 2 months without pay? Eve akudya nabana bake!!

    • No idiot shud be deported. Fyakuifwaila! Laziness and pomposity do not pay. Let this kelly mwansa dance a lebanese tune for once. These zambian workers are as lazy as they could be. If mwansa really needed money why doesn’t he open his own eatery and be in the same position and status as a lebanese employer. Kuitunfya ekwafulile mulumendo nemiponto elo takwata na pa kulala not even ka pamela in the house. If was one lebanese I was going to clobber him with locker hammer. Rubbish and useless kaponya. Sha!

  14. If Zambians are not free in their own country, where else are they expected to express themselves freely? I am a black Zambian racist to the core. Let’s chase these Lebanese and Greeks from our country. After all, what do we get from those poverty stricken countries. They are a NUISANCE.

  15. In NO other country, not even America, can a foreigner setup a business, particularly a small business, that can be done by a local citizen. The law in America states that foreigners looking to open a shop in America, must buy one million dollars worth of infrastructure from within America and thereafter only employ Americans. The amount required is annually increased. In these same countries like Somalia, Lebanon, India, Russia, Eastern Europe, Greece, blacks are routinely spat on and sometimes killed for just being black. What if owned businesses the way they do here and ill treated their locals? We would be lynched and on top of that their locals wouldn’t even patronize our businesses in the first place. The reactions of the police and rapid reactions of anti robbery squad says it all!

    • yourself you cannot even setup a ka barbershop to employ your unemployed brothers who are busy smoking dagger in street corners yet a foreigner helps employ at least some people you say he is a foreigner, this is bussiness for locals, show us that you can do it by opening one

    • Gupta,
it is very true to the reckless uttarance you vomit out.
So you should first of all understand why are this foreigners allowed to venture into small retail outlets.
The simple logic is that the local people are a docile lot who do not know how to run a successfull business.
Most of this so called black businessman who start a small business will first change his wife like changing his pants, will employ a secretary, will buy a VX on loan, will fire the exicting staff and employ his relatives, then fail and blame on black magic.
with such an attitude you need to get foreign players to run the smallest business unit.
      WAKE UP YOU GUPTA

      • I know one Zambian businessman who did exactly that, bought a VX on loan and later sold a house to repay the loan! But Gupta is right too!…that’s the way to go…
